  • In this video I show the machining of a custom adapter that will allow a Tentacle Sync E timecode generator to be mounted to the hot shoe of any camera.

I had the same idea, only mine is the non-machined low tech version. I need a lathe in my garage, lol. I had a bunch of the same cold shoe adapters, I applied some loktite to the thread, and then I just threaded on two of the tightening knobs and glued them together on their mating faces. Once they were tightened against each other and the glue and loktite were dried, I cut off the excess 1/4"-20 thread outboard of the outer knob with a zip cut blade on a grinder. Then I glued the Velcro pad that came with the Sync E's over top of that hiding the ugly cut marks from the zip cut. It takes sacrificing a bunch of these things using my method in order to be able to tighten it up against the hot shoe of the camera ( 1 of the 3/8" threaded knobs and two of the 1/4" threaded knobs).

Sometimes you just have to make it up as you go along. :-)

Hi nice share, small parts are good. Thank you for the audio sink lesson as well.
We liked the little Kant Twist clamp use and work, they are so great to have them use them often.

Nice to be able to build a gadget. BTW, does your tailstock chuck have brass jaws?

Being able to make custom stuff, really is one of the main benefits of having a workshop.
The drill chuck jaws are Tin coated to increase wear resistance. The'd only last a few days in my shop if they were made of brass. :-)

You could have cut the "pole", make a flat surface and attach the Velcro :) What software do you use with your tentacle sync to sync? Thanks-

For large project I have a custom script that I wrote that will build an entire timeline, that i can then inport into Davinci Resolve. For simple stuff I just go directly to Davinci.
