My daddy was a bank robber But he never hurt nobody He just loved to live that way And he loved to steal your money Some is rich, and some is poor And that's the way the world is But I don't believe in laying back Sayin' how bad your luck is So he came to jazz it up Never learned to shovel Break your back to earn our pay Don't forget to grovel My daddy was a bank robber But he never hurt nobody He just loved to live that way And he loved to take your money He's gone now The old man spoke up in a bar Said "I never been in prison A lifetime serving one machine Is ten times worse than prison" Imagine if all the boys in jail Could get out now together Whadda you think they'd want to say to us? While we was being clever Someday you'll meet your rocking chair 'Cause that's where we're spinning There's no point to want to comb your hair When it's grey and thinning Oh Hey, my daddy was a bank robber But he never hurt nobody He just loved to live that way And he loved to steal your money So he came to jazz it up We never learned to shovel Break your back to earn your pay And don't forget to grovel, hey Get away, get away, get away, get away, get away, get away, get away My daddy was a bank robber But he never hurt nobody He just loved to live that way And he loved to steal your money Hey Run, rabbit run Brrrp, strike out boys, for the hills I can find that hole in the wall I know that they never will Daddy was a bank robber But he never hurt nobody He just loved to live that way
@@SWA5H thank you very much my friend. This bassline is very simple, but so groovy. I just love Simonon's basslines. Thank you for your message and support 🤘🏻
Cool cover! One of my all-time Clash faves. Also love thumping this tune on bass. Sounds great if you use the reggae thumb method. You get a nice fat dub tone. 😊
@jinggaddi: thank you very much for message and appreciation. Glad you like it. For this song I played using only one finger like Simonon. Hey is one of my favourite bass player. Great musician. Thank you and have a nice day🙏🏻
I hate bass covers. It’s just showing off. I like this one though. Can’t see who you are, you can actually play the song. (Not the most difficult!) Most importantly I can see what you’re doing with your left hand. Handy (pardon the pun) if you’re having trouble learning a song. So fair enough 😊
@@vanderark89 Thanks for the comment. This song is not difficult, the bass line is always the same, except for a small variation in the middle of the song. I'm glad it helps you learn the song. In the original song, Paul Simonon uses only one finger on his left hand. Here I tried to play similarly. Good music.
@@lunarisalpha he is an underrated bassist. I still can’t get all the way through the Magnificent Seven without mucking it up. Spanish Bombs and Lost in the Supermarket I also find tricky. Weird as I can play more ‘difficult’ songs but his timing always catches me off guard
@@vanderark89 I love Paul's style and I love The Clash. It is a amazing band. On my channel you can find some The Clash songs. The Guns of Brixton and I Fought the Law have amazing bassline. I understand what you mean: Paul's basslines aren't difficult, but groove is important in his style.

Paul Simonon was one those who inspired me to play bass. The Clash made me want to play in a band.
