Thank you; I always enjoy your videos. I spent several years in Chitose, Japan while I was in the Army. I really enjoyed Hokkaido. It was much like my home in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.
The crime rate is extremely low here. But there is a small number of outlaw people called Yakuza or future Yakuza. The point is not going to the place they live. Open places in day time are extremely safe here. Trains are also safe because they don't take a train. They are basically lazy. Thanks.
No knife here. At the point of time when I took this video, I carried a flashlight in a pouch on the waist belt. But recently I noticed that a flashlight should be carried in my pants pocket to deploy it faster. So now I EDC a flashlight from my collection of some turbo headed and some cylinder shape lights which are all powerd by 1 x 18650. Thanks.
We have a very strict knife law and a minor offense law here. The knife low forbids us to own over 6 inch blade and to carry over 2 inch blades and the ones with a blade lock. Even the Swiss army locking mechanism is illegal here. Under 2 inch blades are covered by the minor offense law. Ridiculously some Japanese customs office stopped the import of the tactical pens and Benchmade is now claiming to Japanese government. Tactical flashlights are okay so far. Thanks.
I didn't noticed myself that I didn't have a forehead wiping towel before you mentioned it. Here it is cool and dry and I don't need it except for just 2 weeks of hot summer. Thanks.
Hello Wako from New York USA, this is one of the best videos you have done ever. Your comments about the rear washing towels had me laughing hard. These are the the differences in our cultures to enjoy. Wako thank you for showing Japanese
Here after watching DBK’s video, oh they are your fan boys despite they are so big in the UA-cam knives world, now I’m your fanboy too, how I wish I could know about your video earlier
I don't know if anyone has answered that already, but when i was doing national service the shoulder strap was for us to put our rank epaulets on, and was also a good place to slot out berets or caps through. Cheers!
Knife carry is totally illegal here. I always carry a tactical flashlight which has a strobe mode. But I carry it in the belt pouch and didn't include it in the video. Thanks.
The pieces on your vests shoulders are for holding epaulettes (some call them shoulder boards) they are for showing you military rank or ornamental use. Many police security airline pilots use them as well to show there rank.
Multitool is illegal to carry here due to its edged blade. I have no need for business tools on me because I have my own office on the first floor of my house. I need to EDC only when I go shopping or such. I keep band aids in my car. I carry a flashlight and a cellphone in my belt pouch. Thanks.
You made vest by yourself from shirt! very nice!. I think you wold like actual bundeswehra vest it have 2 more pocket on sides of belly and one small pocked on right side near clavicle. It's sour you can't have multi-tool on you in EDC
When some financial company in the US collapsed some years ago, the rate moved drastically and since then it has been almost fixed at the current rate. 10.000 yen is $125 now.
Kyoto and Shiga are two of the hottest prefectures in Japan. But in winter it is fairly cold there. You spent that many years in Japan! Your voice and accent are very nice and your students must have got a great English skill. Take care!
I really miss the washlette and warmlette in Japan. I was wondering where is your small towel for wiping sweat from your forehead but then I remembered you are in Hokkaido so maybe it's not so hot and humid there.
Flecktarn: The shoulder pieces is where you have to put your rank signs, when you're in the german military. In boot-camp - and until you're promoted to private first rank - you're wearing no rank signs at all, meaning you're a private or "Schütze-Arsch" as called by the common soldiers. But whatever the rank, all soldiers are wearing a small coloured piece of cloth around the shoulder flaps. The colour distinguishes the categorie of weapons they serve in...(communications, infantry, etc.).
This is amazing to me. We perceive Japanese people as so practical. A small Swiss Army knife is so handy. I carry a Victorinox Rambler. I have to ask you, if you carried one and used it discreetly, how would anyone ever know?
I have never had it. It looks like a machine made Japanese art knife. They seem to use Japanese VG-10 as their main steel. I don't think it is a very good steel. Thanks.
great vid:) dhiaria or not i usually take a shower after taking a crap lol if in a public place ill either hold on till i get home or use wet wipes but even after the wipes i still feel dirty so i take a bath after that lol im not a germophobe i just got usto keepin the nether regions clean lmao
I forgot to show my EDC flashlight and my cellphone because they were in their pouches on my belt. I am having EagleTac D25C2 Clicky XM-L U2 550 lumen light. The next video will be on it in a week. Thanks.
Wako... Thanks for sharing your EDC stuff it a very personal topic ... I really enjoy seeing the diffrent kinds of money and I wounder how much 10,000 yen is in the US the number 10k is or seems like its alot ...anyhow thanks agian for sharing my EDC is about the same but with a small frame Glock added in with my Wet wipes.... o(^.^)o .
The flap on top of the shoulder is called an epaulet and it was intended to hold either gloves, a folded hat or the shoulder sash for certain military decorations.
Never show your keys on the internet, I could copy them easily now. Showing the cutting is similar to showing your password. Good thing is this video is 10 years old and the keys are probably obsolete now.
Looked it up because I didn't know either.
Couldn`t you just cut off the blade of a multitool? I know Leatherman sells a knifeless Fuse model. Nice video, I like the flecktarn shirt. The shoulder strap can also be used for putting your hat or cap in place without loosing it.
I am dutch but live in Italy for over 8 years now and here we still pay per 0,01 eurocent. So i don't know where your from for me it's not that awkward.
Yes I spent a long time in Japan. I thought I would go for just one year lol. But I met a wonderful lady who is now my wife so I stay longer than I thought :) I had a lot of great times and experiences. I also worked on my Father- in-laws rice farm I got many strange looks from the local people ad I was in the rice fields driving the combine and rice planters lol. I miss it sometimes it is my second home :)
Is there a high crime rate in Japan? It seams that the Japanese people for the most part are very moral and love their neighbors and family and care for/help others. Here in the US morals have disappeared, crime/murder is skyrocketing. America is not such a good place anymore. I wish I had the means to move to Japan.
Those straps can be used to carry a rifle. They were traditional for this and for decorations. If you want to carry a rifle you need to fold up some cloth and put it under the strap, at that point you can shoulder your rifle and it shouldn't slip from your shoulder when hunting
That strap on the top of the shoulders are made for ammo belt straps to run through or radio wires can also be ran through it such as the police jackets of them. Some surplus jackets you use them for rucksacks straps to run through. Anyways nice video i enjoyed watching it as i'm drinking my coffee.
Only you would be honest about what is the most important thing in an edc - having a comfortable poop. I'm British and I also carry wet tissues for this reason, which is another reason why I think that the only two TRULY civilised countries in the world are Japan and the U.K. because only we would edc something like that!
This guy is awesome with knives, but also a big actor. His accent is soo fake! This you can hear by pronouncing the same words different in every video. This accent doesn’t even exist. But okay, I am not an hater. Love this guy’s videos. Just saying.
Would be cool to see an updated EDC video and see how much has changed. A 2023 EDC video
A doctor who doesn't drive a shiny expensive car, but a trusty truck instead! Much respect.
Thank you; I always enjoy your videos. I spent several years in Chitose, Japan while I was in the Army. I really enjoyed Hokkaido. It was much like my home in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.

Surprised you don't carry a small folding knife or swiss army knife. But totally agree about the rear washing!
The shoulder flaps are used for rank sleeves.
Pretty laconic! Why no notebooks and pencils, band aids, usb flash drives, multitools, and so on?
More videos on this channel please! I follow you on your other channel but I mainly speak English
Hello Wako from New York USA, this is one of the best videos you have done ever. Your comments about the rear washing towels had me laughing hard. These are the the differences in our cultures to enjoy. Wako thank you for showing Japanese

It has been existing in Kyoto since 1.000 A.D. before Samurai era. Thank you!
virtuov
I recently subbed you and I am enjoying your videos. Brings back memories of my days in Japan. Great job.
I remember it and train myself with it. Thanks.
That was a small look into your personal life. I liked it... thanks ...Ed...
A bottle of regular California wine. 10 balls of Carifornia orange. 5 liters of milk. 5kg of potatoes.
Just found you on U Tube, enjoy your vids, thanks for sharing.
I don't know if anyone has answered that already, but when i was doing national service the shoulder strap was for us to put our rank epaulets on, and was also a good place to slot out berets or caps through. Cheers!
I absolutely loved this, Wako.
Thank you for sharing your personal EDC with us!

2:08 thats for holding hat, senpai. :3
i was gonna say that, you got me..
Supermarkets always sell their things for 99yen, 199yen, 299yen, and so on.
Knife carry is totally illegal here. I always carry a tactical flashlight which has a strobe mode. But I carry it in the belt pouch and didn't include it in the video. Thanks.

There's so much art and dedication in making those coins and bills...
I have ever seen pilots have it on their shoulders. It makes sense. The epaulet will wrap around the shoulder belt. Thanks.
I enjoyed seeing the monies and their art work. Thank you. I wish more people would get their rears washed in America too!
Multitool is illegal to carry here due to its edged blade. I have no need for business tools on me because I have my own office on the first floor of my house. I need to EDC only when I go shopping or such. I keep band aids in my car. I carry a flashlight and a cellphone in my belt pouch. Thanks.
Nice EDC video, I really like the detachable key setup

I got all of them from Japanese domestic military surplus websites. Regular Flecktarn is around $20 and Desert Flecktarn is around $35 here. Thanks.
Lol I spent 7 years in Shiga ken near Kyoto as an English instructor. It's was very very humid in the summer and hot so I always had one :)
great vid

Seeing the yen brought back memories.
The lowest paper money is 1000 yen in Japan. I didn't show them but we have 5000 yen paper money and 500 yen coin too. Thanks.
This is amazing to me. We perceive Japanese people as so practical. A small Swiss Army knife is so handy. I carry a Victorinox Rambler. I have to ask you, if you carried one and used it discreetly, how would anyone ever know?
The velcro closure apolet is often used to secure gloves when not worn.
Since I quit alcohol and lowered the amount of fat in my diet, digestion is much better.
its also one of the most easily counterfeited currency :/ its why we are.... very slowly.... updating out bills to be slightly more complex.....
You made me laugh very hard when you mentionmed anti-diahrea medicine. I am also very envious of your German camoflauge clothing
Vest: on the shoulder we carry the signs of the military level.
One Yen coins ? That would be the equivalent of about 0.01 Eurocent; what an awkward value.
Very cool to see your currency. My jaw always drops when I see prices in yen. I would be broke in less than an hour.
I have never had it. It looks like a machine made Japanese art knife. They seem to use Japanese VG-10 as their main steel. I don't think it is a very good steel. Thanks.
I echo the sentiments below, fascinating view into our cultural differences. Great vid!

Wow, I didn't know it was like that there...
No flashlight?
Alcohol can be the main reason for my diarrhea. Thanks.
No it would be too much alcohol. Hellooo Knife People.

Knife EDC is illegal even if it was a small Swiss army one.

Mr. Virtuvoice do you recommend Mcusta as a quality product?
simplest way to think is about is moving the decimal point. so $100 would about equal to 10,000 Yen. Japanese currency doesn't use decimal system. ^_^
Japan makes some of the finest knives in the world, yet you can't carry a blade with you... The laws are just sad
the shoulder flaps are for the signs of rank and whether you are infantry or medic and so on.
what is your motorcycle? Honda Cub?
Couldn`t you just cut off the blade of a multitool? I know Leatherman sells a knifeless Fuse model. Nice video, I like the flecktarn shirt. The shoulder strap can also be used for putting your hat or cap in place without loosing it.
that 50 yen is like $.50000000000000000000
OMG, I thought California was bad for EDC on kinves.
I am dutch but live in Italy for over 8 years now and here we still pay per 0,01 eurocent. So i don't know where your from for me it's not that awkward.

I've developed those same spots on the ring and index fingers of my left hand since I started using water stones...

Actually its for the soldiers rank patches... they are fashioned like a
little sleeve that the flap goes through and fixes to the valcro
Wakos loaded, What is the lowest denomination of paper currency in Japan?
What is your source for the German camo clothing?
★★★★★
Hello Knife People.
Without pocket knife?
Japanese money are beautiful.
where is "Hello knife people!" %-)
How would you convert yen to us dollars?
Remove the last two digits, gets close enough.
10,000 Yen is about 100 dollars.
Epaulettes, they're called epaulettes. I enjoy your videos, thank you.
pelahale tagged him
Actually, overall violent crime has declined in the last two decades.
Too much information!!! ;>)
02:10 for beret
For rank sleeve
No flashlight??? No knife, I understand U cannot carry a knife in Japan!
crime is suppressed by YAKUZA.. japan is one of the saftest places to be :)
