"“Brazil” is a protest song criticizing FIFA, the international governing body of association football, and their decision of awarding the 2014 FIFA World Cup to Brazil, without addressing the extensive and deep poverty affecting Brazilians and “doing anything for the communities.” Although the song was just intended to be a dig at corruption, it took a whole new life with the FIFA corruption scandal that emerged in 2015 and has been deeply associated with the downfall from office of Sepp Blatter, FIFA’s president from 1998 to 2015." the video is also a criticism, in the video it shows stereotypes that the media spreads about Brazil, many people think Brazilians are savages who live with animals like tigers and giraffes, and it's very sad to know that these stereotypes are being spread around the world! (I'm brazilian btw)
when i was an exchange student in england someone asked me if i had a pet monkey and if my school was in a tree house in the middle of the jungle and if yes did i get there swinging in vines like i WISH i was joking the sad thing is i’m used to listening to these stereotypes by now

declan mckenna wrote brazil about the world cup being held there when he was 16. found it unfair somehow how so much money was being put into football/soccer instead of the poverty and problems that occurs there
Yes Declan! So the first song Brazil was his first release and wrote it for his school music exam (we have external formal exams aged 15/16 to get qualifications to pass on to the final two years of school/go somewhere else), but he entered the Glastonbury (biggest UK music festival) rising talent competition and won at 15 with it so most of those first songs you listened to he wrote and made entirely himself at 15/16. He's now 20/21 I think. British bombs was about British bombing in Yemen and their actions in the middle east that the public was largely against, there was a vote against action in parliament that the govt ignored, and it came out that british bombs had killed civilians and basically the song rallies against how the wars in the middle east were sold to the public and the hypocrisy of it all. Declan is a really interesting artist, always has a lot to say but he'll write with different perspectives so you have to come back to the lyrics a few times. Paracetamol was unfortunately inspired by Leelah Alcorn, a young trans girl who became known as one of a series of suicides of trans teens (paracetamol is also a lowkey reference to overdose), and several cases of trans teens having to take people or institutions to court just to be accepted. There was a movement where people posted I am Leelah in solidarity and to protest against her being deadnamed and misgendered posthumously. (And it is called binding/ wearing a binder) I really appreciate how he put a happier story in the video too as if to show this doesn't have to be the narrative you can be happy too. Declan's new album Zeros just came out and he got no. 2 in the UK album charts after a battle with the rolling stones who only got no.1 by like 800 copies. It's a really good album, a maturer sound and very well put together, I've been listening on repeat. I recommend checking out some newer tracks like Be An Astronaut, You Better Believe, Rapture, Eventually Darling, Beautiful Faces. (Oh and the last video he performs with an actor who they kept getting mistaken for each other so they kind of made a joke of them stealing each others' lives in the video). Always love your reactions and insights.

Declan is one of my favourite artists, it's crazy to me that he wrote Brazil when he was only 16 (he's 21 now). You should definitely listen to his latest album, Zeros, I think you'll love songs like Be An Astronaut and Eventually, Darling -- his lyrics are really amazing.
Great video, Bill! I'm glad you liked Declan and look forward to a part two haha :) The songs I'd recommend for a part 2 are: - Beautiful Faces - Be An Astronaut (Which, as far as I know, was one of his first songs that he remade and put on his newest album) - Humongous - Listen To Your Friends - Why Do You Feel So Down? Some context for Brazil and British Bombs: Brazil was originaly released in 2014 when Declan was 15 and criticises the corruption that was widespread in FIFA at the time. FIFA had awarded the hosting rights to the 2014 World Cup to Brazil without addressing the country's wealth divide and the deep poverty that many Brazilians live in. The song became a hit for Declan and launched his career (Ironically, Declan's song Isombard was later featured on the soundtrack to FIFA 17). British Bombs was released as a single on 19th August 2019 and criticises the UK government's foreign policy and supplying of arms to Saudi Arabia. A few days before the song was released, Declan tweeted an article by British newspaper The Guardian that revealed that British supplied weapons were being used by the Saudi government in Yemen (hence the line "Great British bombs in the Yemen"). Declan has also stated that the song is about "the hypocrisy of the British arms trade and the weapons convention in London" and that he wrote it after wanting to write a song directly addressing war.
You’re always SO GOOD and finding meaning in songs, Declan is my favorite artist and I always have such a hard time deciphering his lyrics, glad I get to hear what you say :) Also, with British Bombs, I’m American, but I was born just 3 minutes before Bush announced the invasion of Iraq, so the “your country’s been at war since birth” hit hard
Bro this was amazing, as all of your videos are! you've got to, got to, got to listen to his more recent songs, half of the ones there were when he was really young and he has improved and developed into his own so much since them, it's crazy. I recommend if you want to hear his new stuff; -Beautiful Faces -Be an Astronaut -Daniel, you're still a child These are all from his new album Zeros which just came out within the past few months, they are so good and I 100% recommend them! thanks again for the amazing reaction, you're the best, man!
The other guy in The Key to Life on Earth is Alex Lawther, an actor. Casting him *specifically* was kind of a gag because the entire Declan McKenna fandom wouldn’t stop talking about how similar they looked. And, it went very well with the song and music video
I might totally be wrong but I thought that The Key to Life on Earth was about anxiety and beating your self up about things and not being able to enjoy life because you keep ruining it for yourself
I always thought it was about gentrification. First without the video he says “these out of touch scrounging rich kids are living here for free on my home terf.” And then at the end he keeps repeating how they should try “working until they’ve had enough.” That can lead the video to show Declan vs a famous actor. But interpretations are aloud to be different of course
Suggestion: Trying to Stan the Music of Crazy Ex-girlfriend It’s a musical comedy that is a deconstruction of romcoms, the stereotype of the crazy ex-girlfriend, and societal views on women. Mental health is also a big part of the show, but it is spread throughout the 4 seasons. One of the co-creators is Rachel Bloom, who also plays the main character, Rebecca Bunch. Songs: West Covina Face Your Fears Settle for Me Where’s the Bathroom Textmergency Love Kernels It was a shitshow (Tell me I'm Ok) Patrick I've got my head in the clouds My Diagnosis
I was told to listen to Declan McKenna and I loved it. And then I see this: the best person to react to it, reacting to it. These videos are just... perfect. The reaction, and the deep thinking. Bill’s thinking is so spot on with what the music is about. There aren’t enough people who actually react how they should to these songs. 😄

Trying to stan Wilbur Soot maybe? His song I’m in love with an egirl is unironically catchy despite the themes, as well as The internet has ruined me, which is like a sequel. He has an album called ‘your city gave me asthma’, I think jubilee line and saline solution are a must listen if you do check him out. Wilbur is one of my favourite content creators, and I love seeing your thoughts and reactions, so it would mean a lot if you do consider this! Keep up the fantastic work :)

Declan's songwriting is even more interesting knowing that he uses RhymeZone on most of his songs! He mentioned it in a radio interview a bit back; I think he can come up with so many more interesting ideas with stranger word combinations and I've started using it more heavily in my own writing! His new album Zeros is phenomenal and I really think he's becoming my generation's David Bowie. I saw him live in 2017 and it was my BEST musical experience by FAR. Words cannot describe how much I love Declan McKenna
"“Brazil” is a protest song criticizing FIFA, the international governing body of association football, and their decision of awarding the 2014 FIFA World Cup to Brazil, without addressing the extensive and deep poverty affecting Brazilians and “doing anything for the communities.”
Although the song was just intended to be a dig at corruption, it took a whole new life with the FIFA corruption scandal that emerged in 2015 and has been deeply associated with the downfall from office of Sepp Blatter, FIFA’s president from 1998 to 2015." the video is also a criticism, in the video it shows stereotypes that the media spreads about Brazil, many people think Brazilians are savages who live with animals like tigers and giraffes, and it's very sad to know that these stereotypes are being spread around the world! (I'm brazilian btw)
I didn’t know about that stereotype with the animals

This next section has some slower, more jungly songs. You'll get what I mean when you give them a listen. I recommend listening to Pools first, before the songs above.
- Gooey
- Toes
- Walla Walla
- Pools
- Exxus
- It's All So Incredibly Loud
- Black Mambo
I agree with any TTS Glass Animals suggestions!
I just gotta say that IMO the whole entire new album is an absolute bop, I've been listening to it on repeat for weeks 👌 prime tunage
I SECOND THIS!!! GLASS ANIMALS ARE AMAZING
YES YES YESS
oh you should definitely do a part 2 on this, declan has so many bops and he tackles a lot of issues, its so good
I really recommend mxmtoon as a music artist. Here are some songs I recommend!
- 1, 2
- Prom dress
-Porcelain
-suffice
She got a less lesbian girl in red vibe
yes! also Feelings Are Fatal is a great one by her
By the way, does anyone know how to pronounce mxmtoon? I always see her name and get confused haha

and seasonal depression!!
Trying to stan AJR?
-Netflix Trip
-Karma
-It’s On Us

TTS BEN PLATT:
-Older
-In Case You Don't Live Forever
-So Will I
-Honest Man
-Better
Yes! Commenting so bill sees this :))
That would be awesome-
Declan is one of my favourite artists, it's crazy to me that he wrote Brazil when he was only 16 (he's 21 now). You should definitely listen to his latest album, Zeros, I think you'll love songs like Be An Astronaut and Eventually, Darling -- his lyrics are really amazing.
the way he sped up brazil reminded me of a very wild night including helium balloons and Declan McKenna karaoke
Great video, Bill! I'm glad you liked Declan and look forward to a part two haha :)
The songs I'd recommend for a part 2 are:
- Beautiful Faces
- Be An Astronaut (Which, as far as I know, was one of his first songs that he remade and put on his newest album)
- Humongous
- Listen To Your Friends
- Why Do You Feel So Down?
Some context for Brazil and British Bombs:
Brazil was originaly released in 2014 when Declan was 15 and criticises the corruption that was widespread in FIFA at the time.
You’re always SO GOOD and finding meaning in songs, Declan is my favorite artist and I always have such a hard time deciphering his lyrics, glad I get to hear what you say :)
Also, with British Bombs, I’m American, but I was born just 3 minutes before Bush announced the invasion of Iraq, so the “your country’s been at war since birth” hit hard
Aaaa I loved this video sooo much! Declan McKenna is SUCH a great musician :)
i don't see many people recommending "bethlehem" for TTS declan mckenna 2, but i think you'd really, really enjoy the song itself and its message:))
Bro this was amazing, as all of your videos are! you've got to, got to, got to listen to his more recent songs, half of the ones there were when he was really young and he has improved and developed into his own so much since them, it's crazy.
I recommend if you want to hear his new stuff;
-Beautiful Faces
-Be an Astronaut
-Daniel, you're still a child
These are all from his new album Zeros which just came out within the past few months, they are so good and I 100% recommend them!
thanks again for the amazing reaction, you're the best, man!
if you ever do a second part for declan, i personally also love
humongous
bethlehem
make me your queen
The other guy in The Key to Life on Earth is Alex Lawther, an actor. Casting him *specifically* was kind of a gag because the entire Declan McKenna fandom wouldn’t stop talking about how similar they looked. And, it went very well with the song and music video
I might totally be wrong but I thought that The Key to Life on Earth was about anxiety and beating your self up about things and not being able to enjoy life because you keep ruining it for yourself
you can see it that way too haha interpretations aren't "wrong" :')
Supposedly it literally about the key to life in earth, like what’s the meaning of life.
TRYING TO STAN MOTHER MOTHER
Songs
It’s alright
Little pistol
Touch up
So down
All gone
I go hungry
I just said react to them xD
Yes and 'oh ana' and 'verbatim "

[Also bill if you see this there are a lot of heavy topics that are covered in some of these songs so just be prepared]
Suggestion: Trying to Stan the Music of Crazy Ex-girlfriend
It’s a musical comedy that is a deconstruction of romcoms, the stereotype of the crazy ex-girlfriend, and societal views on women. Mental health is also a big part of the show, but it is spread throughout the 4 seasons. One of the co-creators is Rachel Bloom, who also plays the main character, Rebecca Bunch.
Songs:
West Covina
Face Your Fears
Settle for Me
Where’s the Bathroom
Textmergency
Love Kernels
It was a shitshow
(Tell me I'm Ok) Patrick
I've got my head in the clouds
My Diagnosis
This is an excellent idea but you need to go into the later seasons too, songs like My Diagnosis, it was a shitshow, head in the clouds etc
I wanted add those but I didn’t want to songs that could spoil the story
Yes please!!! And then a follow up series where he reacts to the entire show.
InconsistentCircle I second this
Let's Generalize About Men definitely has to be added to the list!
Please TTS Joji
1. Slow Dancing in the Dark
2. Can't Get Over You
3. Run
4. Yeah Right
5. Test Drive

Could you do Trying to Stan Sleeping at Last. I would love to hear your thoughts on their songs.
Some of their songs are Saturn, Nine, Seven, North, Hearing.
I was just about to comment!! Glad someone got there first. The enneagram album (Atlas) is pretty personal and super varied so if you know your type start there! But I LOVE LOVE Seven and Nine. Guaranteed cry for me haha.
Also the song Two
and i’ll keep you safe & light 🥰
I got the notification for this and paused the film I was watching immediately
Loved this video Bill! Thank you so much for Listening to Dec, it means alot. If you were to do a part 2, I highly recommend listening to Listen to your friends and make me your queen because those are pretty deep. Oh and for some regular bops that may not require so much thought, I would say definitely Rapture, isombard or be an astronaut, that one is phenomenal.
Thank you again for doing this, you may just be my Favourite person after declan, keep up the good work
YESSSSS IM SO GLAD YOU FINALLY DID ONE ON HIM PERIOD
Im so happy you loved him, I think he really represents our generation 🥺
I feel that British bombs is an angry bop. The kind of song to dance with bared teeth to
every time i watch tts videos i prepare my box of tissues cause i just KNOW as soon as bill cries i’ll cry as well
:')
Thank you!!! I love declan so much!
Edit: you might also want to listen to "Isombard", "Listen to your friends", "Why Do You Feel So Down", and "Make Me Your Queen". :)
deadass u are a genuine human and make my day

Trying to stan Mother Mother! I'd listen to hayloft.
Hayloft is good
@@chadravioliv1329 hayloft is awesome. I just got into mother mother from glass animals and iDKHOW, they sound like a hybrid between the two bands and I'm here for it
this! also!

- oh ana
yes. yes yes yes yes.
Thank you thank you thank you Bill, I am SO excited to watch this, oh man
Okay have watched now; as always looooved your breakdown of these songs, you also figure out more and more when you listen to his songs a few times over.
Now get ready for some recommendations for next time! His new album is incredible, it flows seamlessly. If you want true Bowie vibes, try his official live video version of "be an astronaut." One of my personal absolute favourites is "Emily," and then I also recommend "Rapture" and "Eventually Darlin'" for the music and production (just wow)
Sending you all the internet hugs Bill!!
you should listen to 'Chloe Moriondo' her and cavetown did lots of things together.
“why do you feel so down” for part 2 please!
Yay, I’m so happy to see Declan on your channel!!!! He’s such an incredibly underrated singer and doesn’t get any recognition in the reaction game. If you do a part 2, I’d suggest:
Make Me Your Queen
Why Do You Feel So Down
Bethlehem
Isombard
Humongous
Trying to stan Wilbur Soot maybe? His song I’m in love with an egirl is unironically catchy despite the themes, as well as The internet has ruined me, which is like a sequel. He has an album called ‘your city gave me asthma’, I think jubilee line and saline solution are a must listen if you do check him out. Wilbur is one of my favourite content creators, and I love seeing your thoughts and reactions, so it would mean a lot if you do consider this! Keep up the fantastic work :)
YES Hahah
The squid one as well
i love declan so fucking much
I loved this video, Declan is such a good artist and I feel like you covered them perfectly :)
im assuming they dont have it in america but paracetamol is actually a medicinal drug in england you would normally take it for stomach aches, headaches, its kind of a mild painkiller
the lyrics "dont forget your, paracetamol" so yeah hope that helped
It’s acetaminophen, the name brand in the us is Tylenol
this was so great!! he is my favorite artist I have been waiting for you to do him for a while!, please do a part 2!!!!!!
I WAS WAITING FOR THIS FOR SO LONG I LITERALLY SCREAMED AS LOUD AS I COULD RIGH NOW OMG ok now I'll watch it
by the way, im brazilian
PLEASE react to Sabrina Carpenter

i love your channel and seeing you discover new things has opened me up to them too! :)
I’m going continue to ask you to react to SLEEPING AT LAST PLEASE the astronomy and enneagram albums 😭💕
YAYYYYYY I've been waiting for this for so long
Bill knocks it out of the park once again!!
If you ever do a mitski part 2, I would love to see you hear strawberry blond, happy (has a super wild music video), last words of a shooting star, and francis forever, but I'm sure other people have amazing suggestions too!!
Keep on keeping on and stay safe out there!!
YEEEEES! Thank you for reacting to Dec, he is an amazing musician! Love your content
Your radical empathy always sticks out to me in your videos. Thank you for being willing to put yourself out there, and the effort you put into understanding things 💛
I love this channel so much, because you just understand everything. I’ve known Declan McKenna for a few years now, but only until I watched this video, I actually understand what his songs mean 😂😂😂 you’re awesome dude 🤟 stay safe and have a good day
I was just thinking about him reacting to Declan yay!!
ok so i clicked for dec because i love him so much but honestly i stayed for you because i love how in depth you try to analyse and interpret. the way you talk sounds very welcoming to me for some reason so u got urself a new sub^^
please do a trying to stan bo burnham! he's a really talented comedian who talks about really real stuff!
songs i suggest:
channel 5 news
repeat stuff
can't handle this
art is dead
god's perspective
Declan's songwriting is even more interesting knowing that he uses RhymeZone on most of his songs! He mentioned it in a radio interview a bit back; I think he can come up with so many more interesting ideas with stranger word combinations and I've started using it more heavily in my own writing! His new album Zeros is phenomenal and I really think he's becoming my generation's David Bowie. I saw him live in 2017 and it was my BEST musical experience by FAR. You should definitely listen to:
Be An Astronaut
You Better Believe!!!
Emily
Listen To Your Friends
Beautiful Faces
If you do decide to do a part 2(my recommendations):
Make Me Your Queen
Be An Astronaut
Listen to Your Friends
Why Do You Feel So Down
Humongous
Daniel, You're Still A Child
You would LOVEEEEE Sam Fender - he is huge in Britain right now but his songs are extremely thought provoking but still have that rock/pop vibe. Good songs to start with would be 'Play God" "Poundshop Kardashians" "Hypersonic Missiles" and 'Dead Boys" !!!
I love that I can enjoy these videos whether I know the artist or not. Either I get the fun of watching you enjoy it for the first time and seeing a different perspective, or I get to discover something new to explore along with you!
:')
FINALLY I'VE BEEN WAITING FOREVER FOR THISS THANK YOU
Waiting for your videos keeps me going on harder days. The way you speak about music and love brings hope.
AHAh IM HERE!! thank you for taking the time to link it im sorry i didnt make more of an effort to look to see if you already made a video about him (^_^;). im glad you have one though, i love your videos and his music its great to see those two things cross together!
im trans so thats why paracetamol made me cry the video a little too close to home~~
no worries! haha glad you found it eventually! :)
YESSSS THIS IS THE ONE I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR
i love the way you put your emotions into words. just the way you explain things and break down songs is really fascinating.
also, i’ve been wondering for a while if you can do a part three for your tts aurora. you did part one and two a while ago and i’ve been wanting a part three ever since! i have a few suggestions if you do make another one, ‘forgotten love’ live at vevo, ‘soft universe’ live at nidarosomen, ‘daydreamer’, and her cover of david bowie’s ‘life on mars.’
take your time if you decide to react to it! i know a lot of people are throwing suggestions at you!
love you! take care and stay safe! 💛
He's my favourite artist and I'm so happy he's getting the recognition he deserves💕
I really recommend listening to beach bunny at some point. Some great songs with some deep meaning!!
You should do a part two with his new album zeros!
I love all the songs but here are my favorites:
-Be an Astronaut
-Beautiful faces
-The key to life on earth
-Daniel, you're still a child
-Rapture
-twice your size
