I picked one up for $1000 also. Mine had 164,850 miles. Colored tan. Yah bulb are HID. Amazon had them $42 for 2 with 3 yr warranty. I put both new cats bank 1 and 2 , all 4 struts , driver front lower control arm driver front cv axle , valve cover both front and rear, all new reman injections, vvt solenoid on bank 1 side , new iridium spark plugs new ignition coils and new map sensors. Oh also 2 new air inlet hoses my speakers sound great and where your 3rd brk light is a sub woofer. Looks great new subscriber. Your rims are the same ones I just picked up 2 days ago. They came off 2013 Camry lol.
I grabbed a 93 es300 with 170k miles for 2300 during covid high prices during tough times. Around 210k now and no problems, such a reliable car and made me a Lexus fan. Thinking about getting a ls430 soon
I bought a 2000 Lexus es300 2 years ago for $1136. Literally everything I had in my pocket with 151000 miles. Insurance totaled it Dec 17 2021. Put full coverage on these people. Also, the ES300 badge was in the wrong spot. On the 97-99 they are on the metal part of the trunk and on the 2000/2001 they go towards the bottom of the right tail light. I just bought a 2004 ES330 for $2K. Super clean, no cracked leather. 164K miles. Put new brakes, rotors, tires, fluid changes, and elbow grease on the paint. Just ordered new headlight assemblies. Lexus plastic on headlights, sucks. Rides and drives like new. Lexus quality!
It's a smooth ride. I couldn't say no when I saw one and hopped inside. Sure it's beige almost everywhere but that wood is clean and leather is still comfy.

You have a lot more mechanical knowledge than most people to help fix the minor electronics, electrical and mechanical issues to have yourself a nice running Lexus for quite some time probably at a great price. Hard to say how many miles you have on the replaced engine though. Would be good to inspect the timing belt. I have the 1999, ES 300 that with regular periodic maintenance has been running great at 180,000 miles. Mine developed the clearcoat fading and bubbling that I restored watching UA-cam just using rattle cans, sand paper and buffer.
I got a 97 today for 600 bucks...Thing literally runs like a brand new lexus. I flip cars and this one is hard to let go. I cant even pick a good sell number for it.

mine has 194k and runs like new. The original owner had the oil changed often. Makes all the difference. One with half the miles but not taken care of would be way worse. Made in Toyotaland, Japan. True quality build.
Got super lucky, picked up a 2002 ES300 for $1,000. My friends were moving to another state and wanted to get rid of it. Only had to fix knock sensors, new brakes and tires. It super smooth and fun to drive
If you ever run across one of these - good idea to keep them...they are starting to dry up. And they just go forever if maintained. I searched for months before I found my 01 coach edition es300 last year. Anyhow this was a great buy at that price point. Excellent point a to point b transport even in that condition.
Got mine for 3800 & 150k miles. Had a new timing belt put onto it, steering column, brake pads, & interior is immaculate. Only reason I avoided buying a 2001 ES300 was because it had a timing belt instead of chain. Also, owner told me that the car has been sitting around for some time not driven regularly. Tags were from 2019
Ive seen one of these have 1 million miles on it and still ran with no chek engine light on or anything. These are some of the most reliable cars ever made. Treat it right and ot will treat you right.
Just bought one for $1,600 with 160miles. Great cars! Rides smooth! Being an older vehicle. I had 2002 lexus es300 with 60 miles but I sold it. Don't know why I did it. 😕
The maintenance is no worse than a normal Camry honestly and I sold this car to some guy who gave it to his wife and she still drives it to this day. As a general rule for me I don't take road trips in my own cars, I rent one that way if it breaks down I don't have to pay some outrageous tow bill I just call the rental place and get a new car. Realistically you shouldn't take a vehicle with over 140k miles on a road trip longer than a few hours away because the likelihood of it having a failure is much higher than a low mileage car
I miss this car, loved the design, esp the back headlights, mine had Lexus chrome rims, it had like 165k miles when I had to retire it, sold it to the mechanic and I think it was clunked since it was apparently unrepairable, mechanic couldn't fix it, and he brought another mechanic buddy/shop owner to look at it, they couldn't fix it either. It definitely had problems with the O2 sensor, got different O2 sensors, code still persisted, wouldn't go away, they was also saying the catalytic converter was likely busted as well... maybe it would've survived if I took the worn 2000 to a Lexus dealership, but I think the labor, parts and repair would've been pretty expensive, so I didn't bother Sadly, it wouldn't pass smog in California cuz of the CEL, and probably IMO the most strict smog check state in the US, or else I still would've been driving it to this day, but it was definitely old, well-used, showing its age and from my memory, the last car report I looked at years ago, I was like the 6th, 7th, maybe 8th owner or something... what was I thinking... bought it because I thought it would've been reliable, also got it because of the chrome rims... but mine turned into a money pit tbh, the original struts were blown, so the previous owner replaced them with like the cheapest available $50-100 struts, it feel like an earthquake inside while driving on a bumpy road, esp if there were cracks, whole car was shaking side to side, but I just got used to it lmao
Cracking of the leather because it’s a Toyota he says lol. Buddy do you know that newer Mercedes like a c300 you will find most of them have cracked driver seats. Lexus for the leather being so old has held up better!
I've had about 6 Camrys with leather and a few Siennas also a few different Lexus products and the beige leather just disintigrates after 10 years, mostly due to owner neglect (not conditioning them frequently), it also gets to 115F in the summer here which doesn't help much. Sad too because Mercedes once had such nice interiors
I have a friend with one of these and the leather seats are as new,i have maintained and repaired it for 15,years,AC blows ice cold,i have always leather treated seats and it has been garaged,he is buying a brand new one,and gave me the old one!
Never use armor all on anything and definitely not on leather. Get leather cleaner and then leather dressing. Never use armor all on anything, it dries out plastic rubber etc and leather is a hide must be treated with leather products period.
Just wait until you need to replace the knock sensors. Lol when it fails to go into overdrive they need to be replaced. Big job, that requires half the motor to be taken off. Not fun.
Find me 2008 to 2009 chevy trailblazer or envoy, under $150 miles and 4x4. I leave in Michigan let me know if you could drive it here or ship it lol. Im seriously i owned 2003 trailblazer since 2012 its time to upgrade but all are rusted out here in Michigan
I just got that same exact car for my niece for 1000 bucks too. Mine just needs abs wheel sensors and a couple of bulbs are burnt out in the dash etc. How did you fix the cigarette lighter compartment. Hers wont even open
if you’re trying to get the cigarette lighter in the front, you have to pull out the trim around the shifter to access the screws for the pop out cigarette lighter. once you do that, 2 philip’s hood in the trim. you can pull out the front cigarette lighter and check the connections if it’s not a fuse box issue
Hey how was the abs wheel sensor replacement? did you do it yourself or have someone else do it? was it costly? I am looking at buying one, and this seems to be one of the prominent things wrong with it
@@DannyWohl easy fix...the biggest issue is knowing which one as it has 4 but i would tell you to invest on a scan tool that can read abs errors. Or you can change all 4 and be done with it.
I love your analysis but based on all those weird problems and missing engine cover, strange dirt pattern and writing on the manifold that car has a scary history
@@SamPhappalapa oh I’m sure it does that’s why it was so cheap, but it’s still alive and running today a few years later. It’s hard to kill these Lexus/Toyota vehicles unless you really abuse the hell out of them

I recently purchased a 2001 Honda Accord lx. I bought it from a family member and they put another motor in the car (used) basically. When I start the car it’s fine. If I drive the car it only gets up to 45mph and it doesn’t have anymore power. It runs raggedy from the cold start but once I start it. But after the engine warms up it runs smooth. The code is air fuel ratio sensor. The guy that put the engine in says it’s the ecm computer could you help me out which I looked online a bad computer has your rpm not goint up mines does. And the car cuts off if I hit the accelerator while it’s in park I can start it right back up and it’s fine.
It was right around $200 to fix everything (most of the cost being the outrageously expensive head light bulb). I sold this car the very next day to a guy who wanted to replace his 1992 Chevy Silverado
I've had a few of those now, often the buttons get sticky from stuff getting spilled on them and they get stuck down. They should be easy to press, if it's not that most of the time it's an internal issue where something is shorting the buttons out.
@@imthibanks You could pull out the radio fuse and see if it has corrosion build up or if it's the right fuse but most of the time it's in the actual buttons themselves, like the circuit board

Agh just got a 03 for 3k 😁 my biggest complaint is that I was too excited on the test drive to realize it needed a power steering pump.
What was the cost
I miss this car, loved the design, esp the back headlights, mine had Lexus chrome rims, it had like 165k miles when I had to retire it, sold it to the mechanic and I think it was clunked since it was apparently unrepairable, mechanic couldn't fix it, and he brought another mechanic buddy/shop owner to look at it, they couldn't fix it either. It definitely had problems with the O2 sensor, got different O2 sensors, code still persisted, wouldn't go away, they was also saying the catalytic converter was likely busted as well... maybe it would've survived if I took the worn 2000 to a Lexus dealership, but I think the labor, parts and repair would've been pretty expensive, so I didn't bother
Sadly, it wouldn't pass smog in California cuz of the CEL, and probably IMO the most strict smog check state in the US, or else I still would've been driving it to this day, but it was definitely old, well-used, showing its age and from my memory, the last car report I looked at years ago, I was like the 6th, 7th, maybe 8th owner or something... what was I thinking... bought it because I thought it would've been reliable, also got it because of the chrome rims... but mine turned into a money pit tbh, the original struts were blown, so the previous owner replaced them with like the cheapest available $50-100 struts, it feel like an earthquake inside while driving on a bumpy road, esp if there were cracks, whole car was shaking side to side, but I just got used to it lmao
I bought a 2001 IS 300 for 800.00 two yers ago. Had been in a fender bender which I replaced the fender n light through a junkyard.
I felt every door slam…
I used MAF cleaner and the CEL light came on. Wipe the cherry filament clean, and it went off.
I bought a 99 with 120k miles for $2,900 and it’s given me it’s fair share of problems but man do I love my ES300
Like what? Just bought a 98 w 100k.
like what i’m trynna get one
What problems?
and I bought a 5-speed 1992 Lexus ES300 for $1,800!
Nice! Those are rare indeed!
My paint on my 99 es300 is a helluva lot worse, love looking at similar weak points between vehicles that are similar.
My G35 uses D2R as well, gonna go morimoto this time, previous was Philips which were about $50
Hows is it regarding the gas tank. ? Gas Killahs or nah
I have a 96 es300 coach edition from Tampa bay. My leather is all cracked up to not as bad as this one.
I have a friend with one of these and the leather seats are as new,i have maintained and repaired it for 15,years,AC blows ice cold,i have always leather treated seats and it has been garaged,he is buying a brand new one,and gave me the old one!
Love your vids keep doing what ur doing
Never use armor all on anything and definitely not on leather. Get leather cleaner and then leather dressing. Never use armor all on anything, it dries out plastic rubber etc and leather is a hide must be treated with leather products period.
You are correct sir. Actually people should use warm water and Woolite to clean. Then a good leather conditioner.
clean the car out?? haha that's part of the buyers experience
Got mine a few months ago for 2000 178 thousand miles but best car ever
I bought a pair of D2R bulbs from eBay for $15. Let's see how long they last.
You should ask the lady how much mileage was on replaced motor when it was installed....
Take my money..
better question yet how tf do you find cheap cars
fr
facebook marketplace
Just wait until you need to replace the knock sensors. Lol when it fails to go into overdrive they need to be replaced. Big job, that requires half the motor to be taken off. Not fun.
does it happen past 250k?
Was yours the sensor or the wire harness? Did you replace with OEM, or aftermarket parts?
Just bought a 98’ for $3400 100k miles
I'm looking at an '01 with 104k miles on it... for $3500.. how is it treating you?
Wtf ? I sold one in good condition 123k for 500 bucks
@@SnoopDoggyDoge cool thanks will do
Hey how was the abs wheel sensor replacement? did you do it yourself or have someone else do it? was it costly? I am looking at buying one, and this seems to be one of the prominent things wrong with it
@@DannyWohl easy fix...the biggest issue is knowing which one as it has 4 but i would tell you to invest on a scan tool that can read abs errors. Or you can change all 4 and be done with it.
I love your analysis but based on all those weird problems and missing engine cover, strange dirt pattern and writing on the manifold that car has a scary history
@@SamPhappalapa oh I’m sure it does that’s why it was so cheap, but it’s still alive and running today a few years later. It’s hard to kill these Lexus/Toyota vehicles unless you really abuse the hell out of them
@@jimmyjimjims7483 that is fantastic, I have a 2000 es300 and just love it. "Easy to beat up, hard to kill" never was more appropriate!
I just bought a 2001 Lexus Es300 today for 1000
How’s the car still?
Nice video, thanks for sharing!
Am Looking @ 02 300 for little over $6000,But Mlg.is less than 69,000 & dealer just redid Seal coating on paint,For Free before I buy it ,paint is o.k.
I like the two tone color
I laughed so hard at the intro
great vid and car!
Don't buy old style light bulbs anymore. Get led only. You couldn't got headlight assembly for both and led lights bulbs for $100
Seat looks good
I guess they don't clean it out cuz its like a curtesy anywho. Not like you're not gonna take it if its dirty.
I have a 98 I’m trying to do rear struts any advice
Get a Good brand, like Monroe or Bilstein so you won't t have to do it again.& My 04 330 had Knuckle Bushings,Check them if Ur Good mech.a Big Labor bill,if Ur not a good mech.ASE CERT.MECH .IS MUCH CHEAPER THAN DEALER TO repl.them & labor is 3-5 times more than parts.
The mechanic is a hack trying to cover his ass. It's most likely the MAF/AFM
was that a aux cord 😳
What was the cost break down, and what are going to do with it?
It was right around $200 to fix everything (most of the cost being the outrageously expensive head light bulb). I sold this car the very next day to a guy who wanted to replace his 1992 Chevy Silverado
Hey, My 2003 Toyota Camry xle radio stereo keeps switching channels automatically. Is there a fix to this? Thank you.
I got this car yesterday btw.
I've had a few of those now, often the buttons get sticky from stuff getting spilled on them and they get stuck down. They should be easy to press, if it's not that most of the time it's an internal issue where something is shorting the buttons out.
@@jimmyjimjims7483 do you think i should check out the fuse box to see any problems
@@imthibanks You could pull out the radio fuse and see if it has corrosion build up or if it's the right fuse but most of the time it's in the actual buttons themselves, like the circuit board
Love these cars those are reliable
How did you even meet the retired teacher
Wish I had gotten that deal
That is a great fun car to drive
I want to sell my 06 bmw 3 series and get one of those es 300
ill trade you mine lmao
I just bought a 1999 ES300 for $1K.
LOL
Great car . Know 2 people who have such for 300 K miles..
