- From BringBackMyYesterday: Roy Clark is Live in Branson here in the 1990s! With funny intro, too. Turn UP the volume & enjoy! ABOUT ROY'S GUITAR: "It's the deluxe version of the Breadwinner called the Deacon. Clear gloss finish on mahogany, Mother of Pearl inlay, fret board edge banding and one of the first production guitars with an on-board active pre-amp. Ovation built these between '73 and '84." --Info kindly shared by WhiteLantern in the Comments below.

Greatest compliment ever. They asked Jimmy Hendrix "What's it like being considered the greatest guitarist ever? His response, "Next time you see Roy Ckark, you should ask him".
or Glen Campbell
No, he said that about Rory Gallagher.
This isn’t his actual quote, he mentions Rory Gallagher, but regardless Roy Clark needs to be in everyone’s conversation when talking about the best.
Roy could play a pair of shoes as long as they had strings....
Or a guitar strung with laces
I believed he could have too!
so true
One of the best guitar players ever. He could play any genre of music. RIP, you definitely made the world a better place with your entertaining personality and musical artistry
He was great guitarist. When I was a senior in high school he came into the bank I worked in the afternoon. I just miss him. All the ladies had gotten his autograph
Someone else who was a great musician was Glen Campbell. I saw him on a show once. He played the guitar, the banjo and the bagpipes.
We are losing all the older stars in country music. Sad, but glad there are tapes to listen to.
@@carolynmann8753
I totally agree Sis.
Glenn was the Best.
R.I.P LEGENDS 💔
"If it had strings he could play it." What a talent.
This rocker grew up in the sixties. I was a big Hendrix and Beatles fan, but we all loved Roy Clark, because we saw him on Hee Haw, he was funny, and BOY, HE COULD PLAY!
Not only guitar. He can plan anything with strings on it. Amazing!!!
You may have exaggerated just a tad bit, 'cause I'm pretty sure he can't play the harp. ; -)
I wouldn't put it past him...
@Zeno Vice: May he rest in peace.
He's still kicking
This man can rock a guitar like nobody’s business. Wish more people realized it
As time passes, Roy Clark stands out more and more.
He will never be surpassed in sheer ability to pick!
Amen
Indeed
Wow!! On a twelve string no less, the best guitar picker there ever was or ever will be. God bless you.
Ms. Jones, I don't agree with you about him being the best picker, but neither can I make a rock-solid argument against your opinion. Puts me in quite a quandary. 😅
If i wer born again, i want to be born and live the 60s-70s..
@@adammorris9008 I don't think it's possible to pick ONE greatest guitarist, since they're all so unique and amazing in their own ways. Let's just appreciate all legends who have brought something to the world :)
Had the honor of seeing him as little boy in Brandon. He made it look so easy. A true legend on a guitar.
@@thomaskennels I cannot express my jealousy right now XD
Wonderful music! RIP Roy.
I am from Tulsa Oklahoma and got to meet Roy in person only once in my lifetime. We all knew where his house was and respected that. He was such a sweet soul and very kind. He was one of the best musical talents of all time! Add the funny and that is even better!
You have a nice name.
Got to meet Roy myself and at a Bluegrass Festival no less. Saw him play fiddle and guitar in person and believe me EVERYONE stopped pickin' and watched and listened. Roy could indeed play anything with precision and still entertain while doing it. To me he was the best there's ever been.
Respect and RIP to 'Hee Haw' co-host and all-around guitar shredder Roy
Clark(April 15, 1933-November 15, 2018). Pickin' and grinnin' with Buck
Owens again.
Infidel14? Going to be a great show in heaven tonight
I never knew he died. I cant believe barely anyone talked about the death of this legend.
Good Bye and God Bless you Mr. Clark
Yippee eye aaa that’s some good guitar!!!!
Roy is the Goat of Guitar players, there will never be an equal
Tom Petty said that 'pure' country music was an influence in his music so I decided to check out some sites for myself. Enjoyed this performance very much.
Roy Clark is a man that should be in every music hall of fame because there is nothing he cannot play.
HEE Haw! Rock'n Roy!
When you see him closing his eyes and sensing the notes...you see the mark of a real guitarist. Someone who doesn't need to look at his hands to play. Wicked wicked guitarist who never got the respect he deserved.
He got the respect from all the guitarists because he was one of the best.
Yes and for guitar players, especially impressive when you see he's playing a frickin' 12 string!!!!!
not much harder than playing a 6 string Boo
glen campbell was the best player. out of that list-- reed a guitar thinker
I have heard of 4 and 5 string never heard of a 6 string
All these years & Roy Clark still makes me smile! Amazing personality and talent!
You're a pickin and we all are grinnin.....RIP our dear friend
So sorry that we lost Roy, he was just so great on the guitar, banjo, and his singing!!!
That was the fastest guitar switch I've ever seen.
Absolutely one of the best guitarists in the world. So amazing.
Dang, I just remembered I used to play this when I was 13. Great tune!
I used to LOVE watching Roy play guitar on PBS when I was a kid. He'd play until every acoustic string was broken.
RIP Roy. Watched you with my Grandparents in the 80's.
Roy was not only a master of the fretboard he had a really funny personality as well, he was truly a song and dance man ... the ultimate entertainment
Omg he played it on a 12 string! Any guitar player will tell you that's impressive!!
"I guess you guys aren't ready for that yet. But your kids are gonna love it."
Awesome reference!
god I miss when country music was good like this
One of the best musicians of our time
Roy is honestly the best, he can play over the whole board and tap too and other fantastic techniques
God bless you Roy. Enough talent for 10 men! RIP
Never been a country western music fan - nothing against it, just not my taste. But Roy Clarke was one of those rare musicians whose mastery transcended genre. And he transcended genres, as he proved many time by playing anything from classical violin to Spanish guitar. A great musician is a great musician.
You are correct on that.he could about play anything with strings on it
Look up Glen Cambell playing the William Tell Overture .
When Jimi Hendrix was asked what ;it was like to be the best guitar player in the world he replied..You'd have to ask Roy Clark
Or Glenn Campbell??
Thats why he was not asked The greatest...
I never heard that story Is that really true? My Dad was his manager(Roys not Jimi's)
When Angus Young (AC/DC) was asked if he is the best guitarist on the planet, he responded: "What?!?! I'm not even the best guitarist in my band!!!" The truly greatest of the great have always been humble.
I don't know who started that BS story
But supposedly Hendrick said that about everybody
I just love this talented man who also had the greatest sense of humor, Love you Roy
I am in Africa. I have honestly never heard of this performer previously. Juts goes to show at age 67 life can still hold pleasant surprises. Amazing talent - up there with the best I reckon. Thank you very much for posting this. I love the song but this is the first time I heard this version.
So glad you found this video and Glen Campbell's version! You can search for more of Glen's songs here on this channel and on UA-cam in general. "A Better Place" is sublime!
Roy Clark is and was the best guitar player ever! So underrated and underappreciated! I think the reason for that, is because he made it look like a game,so much fun, and easy. It intimated others into not recognizing his brilliance!
That ax is badass.
Roy Clark will be remembered alongside Les Paul, Glen Campbell and other great multi talented artists.
Roy Clark is a guitar-master!
RIP Roy!
RIP Roy you are Sadly missed by all of your Fans The World lost one of Countrys most Talented, Singer Guitar& Bango Players ever
Grew up on Hee-Haw as a kid in the 70s. So funny to me but I loved Buck then. But as I grew I realized Roy was the musical God. The guy is amazing on instruments. I wish I could learn guitar from him. 84 now. God bless you Roy! And a BIG thank you!
so much has changed in the 2 years since Roy's passing. A sorely missed talent.
IF there were anyone better than Roy Clark I have not heard them in my 71 +years. RIP Brother.
Eyes rolled back in his head and channeling the guitar gods....what a great talent he is
Just found out he passed. Been watching him all week. Can never get enough of his playing
Thanks for sharing your outstanding musical talents with the world, Roy. R.I.P.
All I knew to call Roy was The Hunts Ketchup Man until I became an adult and realized he was a true artist! ❤
Roy Clark has always been one fellow of good character, an entertainer's entertainer with a heart of gold. God bless him and his wife, Barbara!
Just turned 72 and this song brings back so many memories, before technically, rock and roll.. Great to hear Roy..Thank you for that...
One of my favorites of all time in any genre, thanks again for the great memories Roy Clark
Here's to one of thee greatest players of all time. Love you Roy.
Very good on the guitar
I never cared for country music, but I always enjoyed listening to Roy Clark play.
When you realise he's playing shredding a 12 string.....
I saw that, oh my gosh!
Amazing
I don't hear any fret buzz at all.
Roy he could play a guitar like nobody business
GOD how I miss these legends from Yesterday! Roy Clark was awesome.
There's nothing like the sound of someone ripping on electric 12-string guitar...
Roy absolutely smoked this ! I've always considered myself a fair electric 12-string player, but I see and hear this... Back to the woodshed...practice, practice, practice !
All the BEST.
Do you know what guitar that is... the top of the head stock looks like an Ovation.. ?
Found it... It is an ovation... 12 string deacon.. lol
12 string, 6 string, banjo, mandolin, he could play them all with supreme skill and heart.
Over one million views as of Nov. 10, 2017! What a rockin' show of support for the one and only ROY CLARK!
Roy Clark was one of the best so many instruments he just made look so easy to play from the fiddle to the banjo I heard a story he told about playing playing with Jimmy Dean just a gifted human being and really a down right good guy love to watch him play and miss him
Hi,Roy in the last while have been watching reruns of Hee Haw and enjoyed the shows all over again,Sad to say there are so many stars on that show are now gone but love ever moment that we been watching. Hope you are well and still picking and singing!
Don’t sleep on Roy, dude was fire!!!
He's an unbelieveable talent. Could literally do it all, play every genre.
I would love to have heard Roy in his young prime as a guitar player.
I remember Roy mostly from Hee Haw on Saturday nights while growing up. Should have appreciated him more, what a terrific performer and great human being!
Hands down one of the best guitarists ever!!!!! Plain and simple....
RIP Roy. You will live forever in the wonderful musical performances you leave behind. The concerts in Heaven just got a little better.
I'm here because of metal guitarist John 5 and his mentions of how Roy Clark was a big influence on his playing - to the point that all John 5 plays are telecasters because that is what he saw Roy Clark playing on Hee Haw. Myself, I remember as a kid my parents watching Hee Haw but I'd get sent to bed at that time. As a rock fan watching Roy Clark vids, all I have to say is that the guy is an amazing player! I may not be a country fan but I know when to enjoy an awesome musician/entertainer when I see one!
U KNOW TALENT WHEN YA HEAR IT
TRY ROY CLARK AND GLEN CAMBELL DOIN THIS SONG IT WILL BLOW YOUR MIND
Seen John 5 not to long ago with Rob Zombie. Had right stage front cause he was who we wanted to see. He's got real talent. My son told me the same story as we watched old Heehaw shows. We went together to see him. Of course Roy is immensely talented. This one is alright. A Lot of showmanship and the 12 string gives it more there than it really deserves. But I've seen him burn up the scales. He could out do Eddie Van Halen in his prime. Glen Campbell? Can't be touched. He was awesome in his day too.
megamania501 He played more acoustics and banjos than tele's on the show.
John 5 is a serious musician with talent beyond what he does for a living in his gigs. He is an accomplished Tele artist.
I met Roy Clark at a rod and gun club once many years ago when I was a teenager when Roy was living in Maryland. He actually took the time to talk to this kid like I mattered, I'll never forget that experience, I still have his autograph from that day. The guys at the club weren't all that surprised to see Roy as he was a regular there, I about jumped out of my skin when I saw him drive up in this pristine old Ford, I believe it was a Ford Model A if I remember correctly. Just a down to earth wonderful guy that I was proud to meet and had the opportunity to shake his hand.
Was that why you wrote "It's not unusual"? ;)
I saw Roy in Beaumont Texas at a movie about Alaska , he was 16 and was awesome even then . Early 60's Now if he's like me he can remember that just fine but not what happened yesterday lol .
I've been hearing for years that this guy is a beast on guitar.
GOD BLESS HIM ....ALWAYS!!!!
RIP Roy you are Sadly missed by all of your Fans etc.
He was so super. Been coming to Branson for years, then moved to Kimberling City, 15 minutes away 17 years ago.
Not to mention completely versed on the fiddle, mandolin and banjo. Once in a lifetime talent.
What a great and talented musician Roy Clark is 👍
my favorite musician of all times!
R.I.P. Mr. Clark. You were a big inspiration to my guitar playing.
My first introduction to Roy Clark was on TV, on the occasion of his first appearance on the Johnny Carson show way back . . . it was a fantastic display of virtuosity. My 2nd was meeting Roy at the desk of a hotel in Nashville where we briefly exchanged hellos after my friend Jim Casey introduced us. There might an equal on the guitar but none better than Roy.
Roy and Glenn Campbell were two of the greatest Guitar Pickers in my era....
saw glens last live performance sad, new him with the beach boys!
I thought Jerry Reed wasn't bad either.
Back home again in Indiana, I love watching Glen play that one!
+F Hoffman...thank you for your post! Did you happen to see Glen Campbell performing with the beach boys on stage, maybe? I often wondered what songs/instrumentals Glen performed when he opened for the boys. He took Brian's place in the band from late 1964 to May 1965, off and on, because he also had session work at that same time period. Glen was busier than "a two-headed woodpecker" as he liked to say! :-)
I guess we're old. Love Glen Campbell. I didn't care for Roy Clark on Hee Haw. I know he was able to show his talent and his sense of humor, but part of me felt he was better than that--not a member of an ensemble cast, but a headliner in his own right.
The very 1st X heard Ghost Riders in the Sky the hairs on back my neck pickled and I felt a chill -only 14 ATT. A Sons of the Pioneers b4 '69 playing oldies for then on AM radio.
This wasn't quite as dramatic as Prince playing "Purple Rain" in a downpour at the Super Bowl, but back in the mid-70's my girlfriend and I and some friends went to the Clay County Fair (Spencer, Iowa) to hear Roy play. It was in the evening and storm clouds were moving in. Just as Roy started playing "Ghost Riders in the Sky", the lightning started crackling across the sky. Talk about a light show! Unbelievable experience (can't remember if we got soaked or not!).
So glad that we have all these performances to enjoy. Thank you, Roy.
Love this western music!!!!!!!!!! 👍🇸🇪
Can play any instrument and very well. A true music hero!
another good one i miss
Roy was one of the best!! ever!
Roy always seemed like the uncle everybody would want to have...Great musician, and great man...
He is awesome. Always been a big fan.
I like a lot of different kinds of music. My favorite being Pink Floyd, but even this space cadet can appreciate the undeniable talent of Roy Clark. I grew up with country music and what 99% of country stars make now, is not country music. It is country rock.
More like pop music. Sony protools takes the ambiance out of the recording./
more like 'crap', neither rock, nor country! (the crap that now passes for 'country music' nowadays, i mean~)
It is not even country rock... just crap
Sad part... real Rock n Roll died
Most people don't give country music guitarist enough credit but Roy Clark and Glen Campbell were true guitar slingers in their day.
+jdj62464 THANK YOU!!!
Roy Clark was and always will be a great musician !!
Many great guitar players in rock and country. Too many to name. But Clark has to rate among the best!!!!
There are a few ... a very rare few, that can equal this man, Roy Clark, BUT there are none , NONE, better.
ghostrider I think Chet Atkins might be better but Roy is awesome.
Roy Clark is a virtuoso multi-instrumentalist capable of playing on anything with strings. If you haven't heard him play Malaguena on guitar, please listen when you have the time. This is a very difficult piece, which he plays with perfection and ease. I love Chet Atkins, too, and think that he is awesome and right up there with Roy Clark, but my edge will go to Roy Clark. Just personal preference, Karo. How do you feel about Marty Robbins? He is a truly great singer and also a very classy person. Thumbs up to you!
ghostrider: so why, then, doesn't he show it in this video?
ghostrider I never really got into Marty Robbins. I am really a rock person into Jimmy Page and Stevie Ray Vaughn but appreciate great guitarists and play myself.
Went to Branson many times in the 90s on family vacations, his show was always the first one we went to see.
Never got meet him always saw him on hee haw loved it miss watching that with my grandpa and somehow my cousin married Roys niece so im pretty thankful!
Back when you had to have real skills and talent....watched him every week on Hee Haw. He can rock the banjo, too.
back when music was fun
Wow!, this guy was awesome. Not my genre of music but sure do appreciate his, playing.
