+Johnny Matthew tre never really does anything special where Travis likes to show off his abilities. If tre were to do drum solos the way Travis does (and the solos he has are enough to prove this) I would say that tre is a better drummer. Travis gets more attention because he draws it to himself but I think tre is better. I'm seeing blink in August tho so I still like Travis.
Yeah, Tré is better at playing the song, whereas Travis is better at showing off in songs. Both ways are great, and Travis's way makes for some fucking killer fills and solos, but if Tré ever truly showed off to the top of his abilities, I'd say they'd be pretty equal. Like you said, Tré does the shit in this video effortlessly, so imagine him in a drum off. It'd be fucking nuts.
It's kinda sad that he only played it live during the American Idiot tour and hasn't done it since, but apparently it's a pretty personal song for him so I understand his feelings
Jason has been playing with Green Day since 1994. He knows this chord progression 😐 Billie literally does that all the time when making that chord change.
@@dilldozar296 I don't think so, i've only ever saw him put his guitar like that past the mic stand when showing Jason the chords, there's a video of them playing christie road & JAR where he does this also and it's to specifically show Jason the chords.
I hate how alot of people don't realize how good of a drummer tre is... i hear alot of bad things about him and ive been a big green day fan since i was 7 and i just hate it. Videos like this show that hes not as bad as alot of people make him out to be
I don't know who thinks he's a bad drummer. Everyone I know thinks he's tight as fuck. Not particularly experimental but his fills and his high hat work are just amazing
For a lot of people, this is their first time seeing them live and they really want to hear that particular song. There's also a lot of people at shows that are only casual fans that know only a handful of the hits. And they aren't guaranteed to play Basket Case. They don't play every hit every time
one of my favorite songs! seriously, only Billie Joe would actually remember how to play every song he wrote...Blink 182 couldn't do that. Green Day forever!!!
Obviously not because he was able to perform this song on a whim with no mistake or hesitations. He clearly remembers his songs. Either that or he rehearses every single Green Day song in existence prior to a concert. But which one is more likely?
He remembers this song because he sings it all the time. Ask him to sing a song like 86, and he forgets. It happens alll the time with this dude. I've seen a lot of their live stuff
I really miss the shows when Green Day would stop and ask the crowd what they wanted to hear. Go off script and blast through some crow suggestions. They didn't do that this tour, except for maybe one or two shows and I wasn't at them ):
They didn’t really do it much during the 99 Revolutions Tour, honestly. This show was an exception. 21st Century Breakdown Tour is really where they went all off the rails and took requests.
Because people are picking the vaguest song they can think of most likely, that's what I'd do. Although I personally wanna see Private Ale but this is a close second
Blue is meant to sound heavier because it's for the old songs, which are in Eb tuning and with a humbucker in the bridge which both adds to the thickness and overdrive of the tone. Whereas his new guitars are a bit brighter and punchier, cause they have P90s which are single-coils.
7101998GreenDay it's not a Fender, if it is that's not even blue it's one of his several replicas. Blue was a knockoff Fernandes stratocaster copy with a Seymour Duncan JB pickup in tbe bridge which is what gives it such a powerful sound in comparison to other strats
thank you thank you thank you for upload...I was the guy who requested the song...now I wish that I somehow can put this video in frame wall..this is lifetime for me...
I would love for them to play this again in between Dookie and American Idiot on the current tour! Most of the remaining shows this year shouldn't have the same kind of strict set times that they had in the festivals they just played in Europe, so maybe they can get a few more songs in the mid set section.
+Ballistic Fingerprints I prefer their older stuff much more, back when they were really punk. Not bashing the band, they simply have changed from what they once were.
+Random guy I wasn't saying that they are bad now. I simply was saying that they have changed their sound. You literally cannot call their music punk anymore because it isn't

Tre is such tight drummer, he plays almost effortlessly
Who's better Tre Cool or Travis Barker?
+Johnny Matthew tre never really does anything special where Travis likes to show off his abilities. Just saw Green Day live and I saw blink live over the summer and I can now say without a doubt tre is a better drummer
Yeah, Tré is better at playing the song, whereas Travis is better at showing off in songs. lehewych123 and the most talented member
0:57 that face of tre cool thinking "OH SHIT how tf do i play this song again?"
ikr
DoYouSeeMeNow? He's the best improviser ever!
Hahahahha
*chuckles*
"I'm in danger"
The classic drummer “hows that one go again?” *hears first bar* “oh right, that one”
I love those guys chanting "Whatsername!"
It's kinda sad that he only played it live during the American Idiot tour and hasn't done it since, but apparently it's a pretty personal song for him so I understand his feelings
At 1:14 he tips his guitar towards Jason so he can see the chord progression...love this video and this band!!!!
And at 1:15 Tre laughs at him :'D Gotta love em
Pinchyboo67 great fucking call out.
And I don't even realize that. So cool 😎

The fact that they can absolutely rock this song from 1992 without any practice goes to show how talented the entire band is
I mean, they’ve played this song quite a bit in their career, even in 2013. But still talented never the less.
They play this song all the time, it's not like they just whipped it out for the first time in 20 years
@@Nova-fh2et Pretty sure they haven’t played it since 2013 and even then just very rarely in the 2000s

dom ruhm I bet he can improvise any song😂😂😂
most people dont know he can play guitar to
They actually keep tre held back when in the studio, seeing him live he just let’s go and outplays the entire band it’s really a sight to behold
I don't know who thinks he's a bad drummer. Everyone I know thinks he's tight as fuck. Not particularly experimental but his fills and his high hat work are just amazing
He's pretty damn good if you ask me. The kid kicks ass!
Mike Dirnt moves his wrist so nicely when he plays bass. i want to play like him
Billie:-Which song do you wanna hear??
Me:-Dirty Rotten Bastards
(Billie Joe Triggered)
RetroGuyRed you just reminded me of that song, one of my favs I gotta go listen to it now
Imagine one of the crowds request that song.. that would very great!
Does he hate the song?
This may just be me, yet I feel Billy sung this is the exact way he did in ' 93.
The twitching and hysteria, signature of BJ, the good old punk days!
you mean 91 kerplunk came out 1991
Ratt pack technically he played the song in 93. Nice try.
Ratt pack True but he played this song in 1990 at his high school
Johnny Gleason He played the song in 1990 at his old high school
tre is the most savage drummer ik he plays effortlessly and his so funny when he gose up to the mic and. he is sadistic
Why the fuck would people yell basket case. They play it every god damn time..
For a lot of people, this is their first time seeing them live and they really want to hear that particular song. There's also a lot of people at shows that are only casual fans that know only a handful of the hits. And they aren't guaranteed to play Basket Case. They don't play every hit every time
The irony isn’t lost on me that this Green Day video is 4:20 long
one of my favorite songs! seriously, only Billie Joe would actually remember how to play every song he wrote...Blink 182 couldn't do that. Green Day forever!!!
Nah. He forgets his songs all the time. Even the new ones lol

He remembers this song because he sings it all the time. Ask him to sing a song like 86, and he forgets. It happens alll the time with this dude. I've seen a lot of their live stuff
Plus, they play the same setlist more or less all the time. Some times they add a few different songs, but they rehearse before they do that
This comment made me so happy ! Thank you
I love that they've continued to play these songs.
Tre killin it on the drumset!!
I really miss the shows when Green Day would stop and ask the crowd what they wanted to hear. Go off script and blast through some crow suggestions. They didn't do that this tour, except for maybe one or two shows and I wasn't at them ):
GREENDAYalltheWAY077 i was in Montreux, i voted for whatsername but Wrhc was a good idea too! Greens from switzerland
Well now they have 13 Studio albums... Imagine how hard it would be to remember each song?
@@Patricksumiswald They couldn't do Whatsername... They'd need to switch to a guitar with Drop-D which they most likely did not have at that concert.
@@ryanzea7196 it's not hard to tune one string a step down 😂
They didn’t really do it much during the 99 Revolutions Tour, honestly. This show was an exception. 21st Century Breakdown Tour is really where they went all off the rails and took requests.
Love how right around the 1:30 mark you can see Tre get really into a groove. Best group ever!
Literally his childhood. Wild.
That drum solo never gets old
haha...Tre exprssion just when the song begins
+Akshay d'sliva
I know lol Not only was Tre blindsided with a song, but he was also tired as fuck and this song is played as 16th notes at 186 bpm.
Such an underrated song! Holden Caulfield is so good!
Great song !!!!
Nice to hear Mike singing
There is not enough 'like' in the world for this. Amazing.
I love that cheeky solo afterwards
0:48 Tré face trying to remember the song and how to play it is just so goofy and funny 💀💀
0:59 the amount of sweat that comes off of him oh my god
Tre's solo is so fucking good in this
3:43 that guitar solo :')
Haha 2:54 : tre doesn't know what to do! :P
Like all of us drummers, we all make a rookie mistake
Vraiment trop bien j'y étais. Moment inoubliable.
this was posted on the exact same day and year i was born!
i love this song so much
Incredible!
Thank you for this video, I like him shake his sweat out while playing
+Jimmy KEL HAH GAYYYYYYEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
Still one of my favorite songs
I can honestly say that I would have been screaming Holden Caulfield as well. This is amazing
AHHHHH THIS IS SONG IS THE STORY OF MY LIFE. I felt chills when I first heard it
The length of the video is 4:20, Green Day's band name originated from Weed. Funny.
+bgsgbja Not on mobile.
+bgsgbja You're point being?
the song is about a stoner. go figure
it's about Holden Caulfield, the protagonist of Catcher in the rye. He's not a stoner by the way.
He was
Billie Joe - "What song do you wanna hear?" Random Guy(s) - "TRE COOOL!!" Lol.
Actually I'm pretty sure he was saying "Brain Stew"
Pikachu Plays Maybe, I probably heard it wrong :)
Actually, after watching this video numerous times I can now hear Brain Stew clearly, lol.
Thought so :P
They were saying Brain Stew
C'était tous simplement la plus belle soirée de toute ma vie!!!!! THX Greenday!!!!
Do You notice every time when BJ asks "what song Do You wanna heart" It's always Who Wrote Holden Caulfield.
Strange.
Well it's his favorite green day song so why not haha
Andrew Koh
Favorite from Kerplunk.
Because people are picking the vaguest song they can think of most likely, that's what I'd do. Although I personally wanna see Private Ale but this is a close second
I saw them in London. He asked that, and I got to hear Sassafras Roots, which is my favourite.
Made my birthday incredible!
penbreakerbolek how does one "heart" a song?
Every high school English teacher should know this song exists
I wonder if he remembers when he played this song back in May 10, 1990...
On*
*in
I just came from that vid
I don't think Billie remembers too much from his time at Pinole Valley High School.
He did have a blast there though.
Du grand GREEN DAY ♥♥♥
Tre's drum sounds are pretty good!! My ears are in love... :DD
Holy shit this is amazing?
Why the fuck did I put a question mark
@@julianpottermusic Why the fuck didn't you just edit it?

this is beyond perfect. thanks for the upload!
Such an awesome video dude! You should have kept recording for Hitchin' A Ride!!
still solid

MindFreaksLetsPlays ... Does it matter? Sure, they've gone into a bit of a more mainstream sound but they're still the punks we know and love. :)
Billie is totally king of the age ♥
No more videos? Damn, you just record in the right time, dude!
Tre looks so funny in this video trying to remind how to play the song haha
Nothing better than a Lumix. And Jason forget the song LOL
If he asked the crowd for song requests. I would've yelled out Horseshoes and Handgrenades
hitchin' a ride

Tre is like "Ummm, how do I play this song again?"
@alexander if u dont like the new green day material then you are not a true fan. A true fan stands by with what the band writes no matter what.
can someone please tell me the chords from 3:10 - 3:30

Why does tre look like robin William's in the Barbara Streisand mask in mrs. Doubtfire
Tre makes the drums look like a breeze in this video
