    This video shows what happens to the root system, with the Oncidium Alliance orchids, IF you let the micro fibres dry out. These are thirsty orchids, and the leca should never be allowed to dry out, even if the reservoir is empty on occasions. Especially during winter, I do not fill the reservoir all the way, to avoid over watering, BUT that makes these types of orchids dry out faster as well, which has to be avoided, so as not to compromise the existing root system!
    I really appreciate the fact that you took the time to watch my video. I am very open to any comments or questions, this video may have brought up. Feel free to ask away and know that I will get back to you as soon as possible! 🦒 Hellooooo!!! That was a fast repotting and quite a clean up. It always surprises me how Wild cats can be so resistant and robust, I guess the Miltonia in their make up takes care of that.
    Hope you can have a good restfull and relaxed day after the locomotion yesterday. Mingi hugos muy dear amiga 💖🤗🤗🤗

      FFF 🤸🏼‍♀️🤸🏼‍♀️🥰💐 Loco motion 😅 I see what you did there!! And yes... it was a long day, but she had fun and that is all that matters! But guess what? My vacuum cleaner did not appreciate the action... I think it is kaputt! 😅 It objected to being overly used on Friday!! That is funny, because... I objected to being overly used Friday and Saturday and today the orchids needed a closer look, because they only got the 'necessary' look yesterday and it feels like ages that I have been able to fuss with them! I miss one day and it feels like a loooonnng time! 😅 Today was nice! We had 30ºC .... I love it!! Long may it last! I shall be starting the indoor clean up on Tuesday when the gardener is busy.... I don't need a vacuum cleaner for that, YET! There is plenty to do, I hope that it can get fixed this coming week, it is my favorite!! My ol' faithful! But it would be a great excuse 🤣 Apologies for the late reply... I have been busy with the 'chids! I hope you had a wonderful Sunday and are rested! #Fishwatch 🐟🐠 Thank you for being meine liebe Freundin!! 🥰❤️🌸

      Anne 🤗💐 Hi! I am hoping to do better with the rescue oncidiums! I mean, I only have 2 that I rescued and then this? I should not regard them as second class, just because they were a 'random' purchase. Thank you for your encouraging comment, and for watching! Thank you!! 🌸

    Hi Nina! 😇🌸 Great learning video 🎥 I baby my Oncidiums because I find them to be temperamental with regards to moisture and needing help getting trapped roots out; just a needy bunch. 💁‍♀️ Hope your Sunday was fun. 🤗

      Number 5!! HI!! 🤗💐 yep... learn from my mistakes... especially when growing these guys in self watering or similar. Never let that microfibre dry out! The roots are used to wet environment, so keep it that way (points to me!) 😬 AND, not to self, just because it is a rescue, doesn't mean it has to be one again 😤 They are resilient, but it is not fair to them to be left like that while other shinier things get pampered! I appreciate your kind feedback though... I can tell the Wildcat that my 'neglect' did serve a purpose and it won't happen again! Thank you for watching and have a wonderful start to the new week! 🤗🌸

      Stephen 🥰💐 well... almost killed it with complacency, but... it is in spike again now 😊I don't deserve some orchids based on what I do / have done to them 😬 I cut off the spike it tried after this repot, so, it will have been over a year for me to see the blooms again... and to show them on the channel 😊thank you so much for watching, Stephen 🤗🌸

    Great repot. Never knew you repot almost just as often as with organic media. Great video 😁

    • @NinjaOrchids
      @NinjaOrchids  4 роки тому +2

      Maykel 🤗💐 yes.... the care of an orchid, when it comes to repotting / cleaning up etc. is no different to organic media. When the orchid grows well, then, the same principle always applies... they need cleaned up, they need space in the pot... the only advantage of growing inorganically, is, an emergency repot does not equate to a set back, because there is no root disturbance and the orchid goes back into the same environment it came from. But, it is best to wait for new roots, regardless of media, this will guaranteed a smooth ongoing growth all 'round! Thank you so very much for watching and your kind feedback! 🌸

    Ninaaaaaaaa!!! Good Morning from Sri Lanka!! You are my start of the day Vitamins!!!🌷🌸💟All my oncidiums are acting like wildcats... lol. Grows like hell, no blooming as they should be putting up a show as per the bushes. They get direct morning sun light as they hang under a tree outside. I have given up!! I have even used a high K fertiliser to encourage blooming.

      Anishka 🤸🏼‍♀️🤗💐 Hello lovely lady!! Thank you for your enthusiastic comment! Start of Day vitamins, huh?? I will tell that to everyone who says I can put them to sleep! 😂 Sounds like your oncidiums are so happy that they do not need to bloom to survive! I don't know... but sometimes, if the orchid is growing great and not blooming, then, it feels safe in it's care and won't bloom as a method of survival! What a show it will be though when they do decide to bloom one day!! 🤩 I hope that you wake up to a wonderful start to a new week! Thank you so much for watching! 🥰🌸

      Ed! 🤗💐 I neglected it, ... its my own fault... taking a rescue and getting to a healthy orchid and then neglecting it, that is just a dumb move on my part! But... I would like to have two separate pots, Ed... but I have bumped up so many orchids these past weeks, I am concerned about space inside for the cold nights that will come. I had to pot them up in the same pot for space reasons! 😑 I need an extension to the dining room, Ed, but the landlord doesn't think it is necessary! 🤷🏼‍♀️ I may have to send him a pic when they are all inside to show him, it IS absolutely necessary!! 🤣 I really appreciate your comment, thank you so much! 🌸

    What a lovely orchid. I am having issues with my oncidium Heaven scent. I started with 2 plants and still have 2 plants but no new roots and the bulbs are very wrinkled on both and I keep it moist and not dried out. So who knows. Maybe it is one orchid I can't grow. we shall see. Thank you for sharing and have a wonderful day.

      Hi K P 🤗💐 she is a very beautiful oncidium, and I messed it up by not keeping her hydrated enough. So, the next spikes will be cut, so that she has time to recover. These are so thirsty that even with self watering, I did not manage to keep up. I do not have a Heaven Scent, because of the size, but, they are pretty tough orchids, so unless it has a more suspect issue, it should pull through, maybe a little set back, but it should manage. I hope it is not the purple stuff, because they seem to be quite prone to that. 🤞🏼 I sincerely hope that it will start to recover for you and grow new growths / roots soon! Thank you for taking the time to also watch this video! 🌸

    You know where my Wildcat lives? On a tree branch. It gets the bare minimum on care. I don't even know how it is still alive and blooms. It looks awful, not going to lie, but it puts out a new growth every year and usually gives three spikes, I can't explain it.

    • @NinjaOrchids
      @NinjaOrchids  4 роки тому +1

      Michael 🤗💐 that is where a Wildcat belongs, purrr... leopards live in trees when they are not out hunting 😅 I would love for most of my orchids to be on trees... I am jelly about that growing method! 3 spikes on one growth? Wow! I only ever get 1 spike / growth 😒 but, this is the first year that they have actually branched, so... can't complain. I have stopped worrying about aesthetics... it bugs me when leaves get blemishes, sure, but, I used to try to avoid all sorts of unsightly spots and marks and it would drive me nuts, but now... I take the unsightly in stride. Not bovvered! BUT... when I sunburn a cattleya or any other leaf, then I do get annoyed, because that was just me being careless and it should not have happened. But my phaius is turning spotty, my Masai Red has blemishes... all my oncidiums do... I am over it! As long as they bloom and don't die.... I'm good! Thank you so very much for watching, I hope your Sunday has been good so far!! 🌸

      @@NinjaOrchids I think my wildcat is a freak, I usually see them with only one spike, maybe two when they come from a nursery. This one will produce two from each basal leaf joint, they bloom together and then, about a month later, it throws a third spike. I've had that third one come from a previously bloomed leaf joint and from the top of the pseudobulb.
      Marks mostly don't bother me either, except in the case of my Onc. Sunlight because I believe there is something more sinister lurking inside that plant. Now everyone says that Twinkles (and most Oncids, really) get spotty if they are too hot and dry. Well, my Twinkle that I mounted last year has been subjected to really hot and dry this summer and the new growths are all pristine. The old growths, from when it was potted, the leaves look a fright. Which makes me wonder if it isn't related to the roots having access to air, rather than moisture. That's one of the reasons why I want to try the Sunlight in coco husks, it will provide moisture but also a lot of air to the root zone, and see if the plant doesn't start looking better.

      Michael McCarthy I’m weird... I like freaks ... gimme an orchid that’s a freak and I’m good!! 😅 my twinkle new growths are looking ok, so far... they get sprayed every day with fertilizer... but we shall see how long that lasts when I can’t douse them anymore.

    They aren’t usually fragrant, are they? Not sure why but I have two wildcats... they are in large bark... it came like that when I received it... yes, one of them is a rescue. That’s why it is here. They just grow and grow despite the fact that oncidium types usually like more moisture loving media...🤷🏻‍♂️ and another one... It’s in the new unboxing video. I didn’t choose to have it. They do have gorgeous blooms though! Really wish I could smell something nice...😑 Do you have other oncidium types? I don’t remember you have that many comparing to other one you have....

    • @NinjaOrchids
      @NinjaOrchids  4 роки тому +1

      Yoshi San 🤗💐 No, they are not fragrant! If they come from a very humid environment, then there is no need to provide water retentive media. The climate determines the set up and if the climate is dry, then they definitely need different media, including Sphagnum moss only, in some cases. So, watch your's carefully and see if they can continue to be in large bark in your climate! I have a Colmanara Masai 'Red' and another rescue oncidium... and that is it! The Colamanara is so much bigger in her growth habit than I expected, I have decided that I am not going to risk getting anymore oncidiums in case they behave the same way, and then I am in trouble, space wise. So, in total, I only have 3 😬 Good observation skills, Yoshi!! 😅 Thank you very much for watching... I hope you have a great start to the new week! 🌸

      @@NinjaOrchids Nina, Nina, Nina, you have a Howeara Lava Burst and an Ionmesa Popcorn, those are both Oncidiums and small. And then there are the Twinkles, they are small, and the related Tsiku Marguerite. Really, there are plenty of smaller Oncidium types but a spate of them need cooler conditions than you or I can provide. Then there's my Carpenterara (now Oncidesa) Sydney Smith. I'd call it a "medium" sized plant, somewhere between a Nelly Isler and a Sharry Baby bulb-wise but it has more of a clumping growth habit, the bulbs grow close together and non-linear so it isn't just walking across a pot.
