Having been to both Mono Lake and Death Valley several times I thoroughly enjoyed your video work and your still images. Not being a professional photographer I benefit so much from your narrations and explanations about composition, etc. I do appreciate the extra work it takes on your part to set up a selfie camera to capture you at your photographic best. Your work offers and delightful, insightful and entertaining experience for me, the novice adventurer. I do hope that you return frequently to my favorite national park, Death Valley and capture many more images. The muddy crack image is eye candy! Thanks again!
Those are some sweet neoprene socks... looks like George Mallory back in the day. Pretty amazing landscape; Mono Lake is on my list. I also want to shoot the L2H - Lowest to Highest / Death Valley to Mt. Whitney.
Thank you Nick. I was inspired to visit Mono Lake after watching this video. I had come over from the UK and was on a three week photography road trip around the West Coast and must say the images I shot here turned out to be my favourite of the whole trip. Thank you again Nick and keep up the great videos.
All this wonderfull content and great artwork in my youtube feed... For free! I've learned a lot during the past year from watching your videos. Thank you, Nick! You're the best!
I know what you mean about a million compositions at mono lake. I took a ton because everything with those rocks was awesome. They are great for night photography as well
Awesome vid! Love your pics. Also love what you said about mono lake and how there is no obvious comp. I see a ton of Insta photographers going to locations and taking a pic that has already been taken. One example is the tree tunnel is point Reyes. I've seen the same pic from that spot so many times. I think it's awesome that you can take new pictures and not just photos from the same spot.
Thank you Nick, this really taught me a great lesson. just commented on the DV vid with Michael Shainblum, that I was just in DV and had nothing but high blue skies... was very discouraging and I really didn't have my heart into the dunes shoot... I realize now, looking at your great shots, I shouldn't have given up so quickly - thank you!
That Mesquite Dunes image with the person on top of the large dune looks like the same spot as Ted Gore's free processing tutorial! Oh wait...just looked at the image, the mountains behind the shot are a little different. We just drove through Death Valley and looked around for that perspective Ted Gore has but loving yours too. Especially your crest of the dune golden hour shot. Nice work as always, Nick! -Aaron
Nick, another very nice video. When I see the video, it isn't very dark, but in the pictures, the sky is dar and saturated. Please show us a Lightroom/Photoshop video of your workflow. That would be nice. Please the sam videos as in the video.
Great video again Nick. its nice to watch someone shoot the way I like to (using bracketing and blending) I've noticed that you like to focus stack as well is bracketing and I just can't get my head around how you would process these images. would you consider making a workflow video?
Your about six hours drive north of So Cal. Closer to central Cal with the exception of the Sierra's being in the way. Love Mesquite Flat Dunes, you can surly get lost out there without ever being lost. Yup, hike for about 45 mins and you in. If you move to the east there will be less foot prints, but it's been years since I've been out there so things may have changed a bit. That un-named place looks like Panamint Springs. What back pack are you using?
Hello Nick, once again thank you for sharing your knowledge and these fabulous locations. I had never seen Mono Lake before and I also loved those Mud Tiles you mentioned. Regarding your camera rucksack was that the Anja sack that you tested recently ??? I have a couple of camera rucksacks, the Lowepro 400 AW and a new Tamrac Expedition 7x. Should I buy the one that you have also, that maybe better ????
Thanks so much for all the amazing content Nick. Constantly learning so much from your videos/podcasts. Heading out to DV next week and hoping to get some good shots with the mud cracks/tiles. Was wondering if you could provide any more detail on where those shots were from? You mentioned it was an unnamed area, but I was hoping you could help point me in the right direction. Thanks!
My own experience photographing these locations is that both are devilishly hard to find and shoot what you previsualize when trip planning. Death Valley dunes can be particularly uncooperative for footprints in the usual areas or need an off-road vehicle to reach the places most people do not visit. Ben Horne's videos illustrate his many efforts in Death Valley and calamities along the way.
Thank you for sharing your experiences and of course great shots with us. Nikon needs to get a touch screen on their cameras. You kept tapping the screen and I'm sitting here like "how the hell is he taking a shot like that?" lol
I spent three days this past February in Bridgeport and was disappointed that there was 4 feet of snow on the ground and I could not get to the tufa's.
hey there nick, I think a 5d mk2 or 3 converted (just to play around )for infrared would have worked wonders in this situation while waiting for the more suitable light, shooting mid day dessert light? I really hope you consider this because you're usually in nice locations, keep up the good work
He lives in SE Washington, so south through Reno and Bishop on Hwy 97, down east side of the Sierras to Lee Vining, intersection of Yosemite east road, also road east to Death Valley.
Hi Nick I hope you can make a video tutorial for “How to edit desert photo“. Desert photography dosnt have too many things but is very difficult to edit. Thank!
Just discovered your channel a couple of days ago. Really really good stuff! Have been binge watching for the past couple of days :p I'm super curious to what you do with your GoPro when you put it in the back of your car while you load items, or on the dashboard - or when you simple just set it down in the field. That can't be the stabilizer, are you using a tripod for that or how do you handle that? :)
Are all my favorite Photographers at death valley at the same time? Amazing Shots Nick! If you are ever in Moscow I would be honored to buy you a drink and pick your brain!
Great video as usual Nick. Why is it that after walking any distance, your butt hurts. In South Australia we have heaps of salt lakes scattered all around the place (look up Lake Eyre on google maps). Your video has inspired me to travel to these remote locations sometime soon. Regards, Paul from Salisbury East, South Australia
Somebody seriously needs to invent a way to change lenses quickly and easily. I always freak out when it's sandy or dusty and I have to change lenses. There has to be a better way! lol
I enjoy your videos… If I were you I would ditch your logo or put it small in the lower right hand corner… It takes away from your very beautiful work.
A few thoughts regarding your Mono Lake and Death Valley experiences which I’ve been to since the mid to late 70’s...buy a “changing bag” (B and H Photo among others, originally designed to safely prevent film from accidentally being exposed when changing film) to change your lenses during windy times particularly when in the desert or in a wet/rainy environment. If you’re going to shoot at a place like Mono Lake how about educating yourself and your viewers as to its significance...geological or historical. Hopefully by now you know that the deposits that you were shooting is referred to as “tufa”. Lastly, the stunt with doing “donuts” in Death Valley really separated you from professional photographers...I can’t recall ever seeing a photographer so blatantly and purposefully scar the earth regardless of whether others had done it in the same area. Don’t be a schmuck...

I absolutely love your videos and I absolutely LOVE the music!!!
Another great video. Thanks Nick
Thoroughly enjoyed this episode. It's been awhile since I have trekked to these fine locations.
thanks for taking us to these amazing places Nick - and sharing your craft; just fantastic
Those are some sweet neoprene socks... looks like George Mallory back in the day. Pretty amazing landscape; Mono Lake is on my list. I also want to shoot the L2H - Lowest to Highest / Death Valley to Mt. Whitney.
lol yeah between my double hats and pants tucked into my socks.. I was styling pretty hard in this video lol "shakes head"

of course you should have posted this.....more trips like these please....inspiring me to get my lazy butt out
Currently at Death Valley. Brought my hiking poles because of your tip. Certainly helped.
Definitely a challenging location
solid outing! banging shots, particularly like almost black and white one. loving your videos!
Superb video nick some cool places. I'm off to Vegas and California next year with my son, think we may have to visit these places
Such a great set of locations.
I am so amazed with mud crack images. For some reason I didn't spot any cracked mud tiles during my visit to Death Valley last year.
Always enjoy your videos, love the atmospheric musical touch in the dunes....
thanks keith! I wasn't sure if that ended up cheezy or not
So many great shots. Well done Nick, inspirational!
Another great trip with some really cool shots Nick.
Going there in April! Learned some great stuff from this video. Thanks!
Thanks Nick really enjoyed that one, those limestone formations are awesome.
Great video and I like the subtle changes in music here and there. They help with the flow and the 18 minutes flew by.
All this wonderfull content and great artwork in my youtube feed... For free!
I've learned a lot during the past year from watching your videos.
Thank you, Nick! You're the best!
Crazy beautiful images. Outstanding! 👌👌👌🎥📷
Thanks for the video Nick. That was entertaining.
Fantastic video and really beautiful images.
Greats shots like your style!
Haven't see you make a video lately. Do put up some! They are great and we all enjoy it and learn from it!
You got some nice photographs Nick- my favorite is the last sand dune shot in death valley at the end of the vid!
Another amazing video again nick 👍👍👍

Really nice video, one of the best from you! Thanks for sharing!!
Great shots dude
The sound is gnats. Gnasty!
That final mud crack shot. Not sure if I've mentioned this to you or not but I kind of like Death Valley...
That Mesquite Dunes image with the person on top of the large dune looks like the same spot as Ted Gore's free processing tutorial! Salaams from Pakistan! Love your videos.; Extremely informative and inspirational, entertaining too. Thank you!
I was just in Death Valley this weekend! working on my vlog to add here in a couple weeks. absolutely love the shots you got! Very beautiful.
Excellent work Nick, I really enjoyed the vlog. You managed to get some superb images 👌
Awesome shots!! Looks like someone got a new ride!
I did! I am driving in style now! Finally one of the cool kids lol
Yeah been jealous of your new ride for a few videos now. :D Can't wait to get my adventure mobile! :D -Aaron
Lol.. Awesomeness Nick, congrats!
Man I love your videos

Your comment in the description about not getting much footage made me laugh. This was a great video and I'm definitely glad you didn't scrap it.
dude you got some great shots!!!
Looks like you had a great trip with some good light! I'm heading out there end of next month and this got me excited. Great episode!

Good stuff! Thanks for sharing!
perfect job!
Great video, did you have to throw your boots away after Mono Lake?
Good stuff man! Great meeting you out there. Next time feel free to do the video blog. :)
Such great images Nick. I'm a fan. I just wish you'd share the name of the musicians who play that rockin' track in so many of your videos!
My own experience photographing these locations is that both are devilishly hard to find and shoot what you previsualize when trip planning. Great video and awesome content as always Nick! Thanks for bringing us along!
Did you really drive right by Yosemite during Firefall?
I car slept at Mono lake, got some awesome shots
I spent three days this past February in Bridgeport and was disappointed that there was 4 feet of snow on the ground and I could not get to the tufa's.

Hi Nick, subscriber here... ever thought about adding a google maps link in your description of where you are?
I really enjoy your videos! Did you consider lightpainting in Death Valley or Mono lake?
Great video! How did you get there in the winter/Spring? I tried once from Yosemite and the road was closed I thought...
He lives in SE Washington, so south through Reno and Bishop on Hwy 97, down east side of the Sierras to Lee Vining, intersection of Yosemite east road, also road east to Death Valley.
It would be great if you could show the full frame of the photo for longer before cutting to the next image.
Nice work Nick. I am thinking about heading to DV in a couple weeks. How are the road conditions getting there? I don't have AWD or 4WD. Thanks
all the spots I showed in the video were completely accessible by car.. paved road right up to the parking areas.
Thanks, hopefully I can find the mud flats you were shot.
Hi Nick
I hope you can make a video tutorial for “How to edit desert photo“.
Desert photography dosnt have too many things but is very difficult to edit.

Nick, your vids are always informative! What part of Death Valley did you hike to get to those mud cracks?
Nick, that mud tile location is absolutely amazing. Where is it located? I hope you don't mind me asking?
Are all my favorite Photographers at death valley at the same time? Amazing Shots Nick! If you are ever in Moscow I would be honored to buy you a drink and pick your brain!
One tip for you when shooting desert, beach or snow.... Use 3 cd´s under each leg of your tripod. Then it will be more stable in the loose ground :D
Better than cd’s are spikes, which I typically use
Spikes won´t help you in loose snow or sand.....
hkanderful not true! Spikes allow you to show of the tripod down deep and the sand or snow holds it firmly in place
Great stuff Nick! so...you didn't go to Racetrack Playa?
+Ryan Luna it was so muddy I didn't want to leave boot prints and ruin it for people after me
That was great of you. Apparently someone drove a vehicle out on the Racetrack last September. Hopefully the water/mud will wipe them clean.
Where off the highway did you access those mudcracks? I've been looking for those for a while now!
How far did you walk to the dunes?
Which telephoto lens is that that you're using? Is that the 70-300 f/4-5.6 L lens?
Ahhh man, that's my fav pic of the trip!!! So was that pic that you didn't get to film focus stacked, exposure blended and some perspective blended?
focus stacked and duel processed, but not exposure blended or focal length blended
Great video as usual Nick. Why is it that after walking any distance, your butt hurts. In South Australia we have heaps of salt lakes scattered all around the place (look up Lake Eyre on google maps). Your video has inspired me to travel to these remote locations sometime soon.

Love the intro music who is the artist
Lmao , Gavin’s glasses 😂🤓
hey ! :) whats the name of the music?
loooong walk back to the car. Breakfast at Nicely's?
great video and the place is soooo sexy, keep up good work!
Somebody seriously needs to invent a way to change lenses quickly and easily. I always freak out when it's sandy or dusty and I have to change lenses. There has to be a better way! lol
mono is central not southern Cali
it felt like southern having driven from WA state lol but I guess your right, thanks for the correction
Actually, the area is called Sierra Nevada in California. Central California would be more like Fresno and Modesto.
Canada geese, Canadians are always people.
Mono lake is one of the oldest lakes in the world. Several million years.
That's Mo No as in No No, not mono as in single or one.
really? interesting
i'm sorry, those footprints in the dunes thats me
The next guy is going to be complaining about your tracks.
I enjoy your videos… If I were you I would ditch your logo or put it small in the lower right hand corner… It takes away from your very beautiful work.
You want to do something original at Mono lake. Good luck
