***** I've realised this in the last week or so. It's stronger, lighter, uses 50% more carbon dioxide than maple, produces 35% more oxygen, grows *_ridiculously_* fast and in my opinion, it looks nicer. I'm going to try and make an electric guitar out of bamboo...
I agree! Bamboo is the best material for construction and anything else where wood is used.... the deck in my house is bamboo, not only it's lighter, more resistant, and flexible, it's also way more water resistant than wood Here in Hawaii bamboo is widely used already in civil construction, in the Bahamas where my dad lives also bamboo is used too (he works with finance so he's living there)
BAMBOO PROS AND CONS PROS: bamboo decks are really durable and light compared to maple. they just flex when you try to snap it the pop is amazing less tired legs greener earth CONS: razor tail faster but still have plenty of pop and does not chip fast graphics wont stick that good, who cares about graphics anyway?
Hey c'mon now, graphics are the single most important part of the deck! need to put some rails on those suckers to protect them graphics, very important rule.
bamboo is harder to work with, requires more labor because where wood is one big veneer when used for board making, bamboo is a bunch of little sticks essentially
I've heard it's great, and bamboo is lighter too (not to mention much better for the environment). It's just all around better IMO! I ordered a new bamboo deck and it arrives tomorrow, so excited :)
The problem I see is that the experiment is quite biased. The maple skateboard looks quite a bit used... actually, to brake a brand new board is really difficult. Don't get me wrong, is bamboo works, then sign me in, but this experiment is just not quite empirical.
Agree .... we are destroying our forest just because of greedy corporations .... in Thailand is a bridge made of bamboo and is 100 years old ... bamboo can last also long if it's treated properly. Some species of bamboo can grow up to 20m in just a year or 2 if conditions are right. Bamboo can grow on anyone's yard and imagine what would happen to these big greedy corporations if everyone would start to use bamboo a long time ago ... with the widespread of internet we can see now it's fully potential ... well in asia, south america they used it (some countries still using it) for centuries (to build houses, furniture's ....). Well greed doesn't have any morality, any compassion and is destroying our living environment because it doesn't think about future of our kids or anything ... hope we will make stop to it in the future.
For sure. I'm in favor of canvas shoes for similar reasons. They don't last as long as suede raw, but you can easily shoe goo them, and I think it's pretty fucking awful to pay for a cow to be killed just so that you can do tricks. From an environmental perspective, growing cotton and linen is vastly less destructive than farming cows too.
not much, its just more labor intensive...gluing all sorts of little bamboo strips together, but too be 100% honest its all in the demand, maple is here and bamboo is not...but ironicly enough they sell bamboo cutting boards at your local dollar store for $3... where's the justice eh? lol
Because if everyone has unbreakable decks then the need for decks is going to go way down. And board companies will suffer bad. Maybe not the core roots brands but all these little random brands that pop up here and there all the time now won't be. Think about it if a board last twice as long that's 50% less decks that skater is going to purchase that year. What if it lasted 4x as long? They'd be fucked
I just got a bamboo board and I have to say it's really good. I've been skating for about 12 years now and I'm 6'3" 225 lbs so I know my fair share of ways boards can break. I can tell how long a board might last my first time standing on it after I put on my trucks. I've tried alot of technologies; P2, helium, impact etc. And these boards are worth a try.( My favorite boards are impact 8" and a bit shorter wheelbase than your standard board, I like a shovel nose and a pointy tail, just to share because you know whatever) anyway idk know if they're as strong as almost impacts but they definitely are stronger and have more and longer lasting pop than your standard 7 ply maple. Tl;dr - as a bigger dude I can tell you it's not a gimmick, they're stronger than normal boards and I fully recommend them to anyone having trouble with boards not lasting long enough/on a budget
I am crazy about skateboards. Its my dream to have a professional skateboard. But the country i live in there are no professional skateboards . Can you send me a skateboard?
Pretty good video. A few people here have been riding bamboo boards. They all get pressure cracks (from the truck holes) through the grip that go along the entire length of the board (two cracks). The boards flex a lot as if they had been left in a pool for a few days. One of my friends snapped his without even trying. Kind of unfortunate seeing as they are much better for the environment.
This test wasn’t fair bc the maple was clearly older and it’s hard to tell for the bamboo but generally speaking bamboo still has a higher tensile strength
Dude that's freakin sick! I just got sponsored by bamboo and waiting for my deck to come in. So I decided to check the reviews and now I know how awesome they r!
@BitfeNicks bamboo is pretty flexible, and distrubutes shock throughout. whereas maple absorbs all the shock where it was hit, ending in snap. bamboo actually helps the pain in your knees(you'll get less of it). oh and bamboo skateboards have more pop naturally because of rebound
Jason Hart Bullshit. It's physically impossible for any hardwood to be stronger than bamboo, when bamboo has the tensile strength of steel... en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ultimate_tensile_strength The Ultimate Tensile Strength (MPa) of pine wood is 40, there is no listing on there for Maple, but I believe the calculation of MPa is the load at failure, divided by the cross-sectional area of the material in question. The only experiment I have seen online suggests that a plank of maple at 2m^2 snapped at 160lb...I'm not even sure it is measured in lb so even at the most optimistic, the Maple's 80 MPa is nothing compared to bamboo's 350-500... Simply put, maple is anywhere between 1/4 and 1/6 as strong as bamboo...
La diferencia no es mucha, ya que si prestan atención los puntos en los que hace presión son diferentes: *bombo: hace presión en el centro y el costado dispersando la fuerza. *en la otra hace presión solo en el centro concentrando toda la energía y haciendo que se rompa
Ok so i get that it is more resilient, but does it have pop, when you have a new maple deck it just has that crack, but if bamboo does too im down for it, i have noticed that the majority of modern furniture is bamboo..
immense pop! I have the habitat bamboo ply and I popped the best and highest tre flip I have ever done, the only downfall is they get stress fractures easily, but its bamboo so I doesn't effect the rigidity.. I usually skate chocolate which are arguably the best maple decks, and my habitat has more pop thru n thru, the only difference is that bamboo decks have a very steep concave.
I skate a bamboo deck right now and it is just like in the vid. It seemed lighter to me, it had a lot more pop, and it was mega difficult to break. It just doesn't have much of a concave to it, and its a little more flexible then a maple deck, but not by too much. I think it lasts a little longer then a maple board when it comes to razor tail and stuff. And its a lot cheaper then buying a deck from your local shop or whatever. I got mine for $18 online.
suspend the board between two tables (tail-ends laying on the edge of table with the center exposed) and pile on weight to the center of the board in measured increments (25 pounds?) until the board snaps and keep going with the other board to see how much stronger it is.
got my first deck made of bamboo this year and i have to say after 25 years of skating on maple that i really like it! But you know what they say,,....to much of a good thing is.....Wonderful!!!"
all i skate is bamboo, they splinter on the corners after a month, but even when theyre spongey and stress cracked they have more pop than a maple. ive only broke one and ive had seven...the only reason i moved on is because the holes were stretched out from the trucks after a month or two
Godlovesskaters Because that would be completely missing the point. Maple trees take half a century to grow and we are cutting them down too fast. Why even use that, when bamboo is better in literally every measurable way?
Snakebloke Bamboo is more expensive for a reason. Maples take longer to grow but there is litterally millions of them and there are dedicated tree farms to growing growing them to maturity. My uncle owned one. They will have a few acres of 40 year olds ready to harvest a few acres of 39 year olds for next years harvest and so forth replanting each acre as they go. We are in no danger of running out of maple trees
Bamboo is also hollow and thinner, leaving less materials for production. How many bamboo plants are needed to make a deck as opposed to how many decks can a maple tree make?
Just broke my 8.25 Blind deck I just bought YESTERDAY from landing off of the bolts doing a god damn switch nose manual on a barely foot high box.. So trying out Bamboo this next time. I weigh a little below 200, btw.
we can compare it to a layer of thin fibers of bamboo bind together to create a very strong deck (bamboo is naturally more flexible and lighter than wood.. while the maple deck with 7 ply of veneers is cured to gain such strength..
@sexypotato59 I agree absolutely, but the point I'm making is, anyone can snap any board immediately if they treat it badly, or they're unlucky. Also, even the best brands occasionally throw up a defective model. Also, and I'm definitely NOT suggesting this of you, it wouldn't be beyond the realms of possibility that rival manufacturers would create stories like this to harm the reputations of the competition, especially if the products were actually very good.
just because it grows faster doesn't mean you can cut it down faster and more efficiently. btw there will never be a maple tree shortage. also a lot of processing is done to bamboo to get it into those nice flat sheets.
@WannaGoSkate It's interesting that bamboosk8 has switched from 100% bamboo to include 2 plies of maple. If maple is weaker, less resilient in terms of pop, and less stiff, wonder why they did that?
theres still a reason that they still use maple more than bamboo for skateboards. honestly maple probably has much better pop. and a better feel. its not all about whether it will snap or not. just land bolts and u dont have that problem:)
I don't know about this. I think a maple deck breaking is telling you something. That break is transferring the force/energy and causing the break. i.e the maple board is absorbing that massive amount of energy for you. If the bamboo doesn't break with the same amount of force, then that means all the energy is being absorbed by your ankles, knees, hips...etc. Just a thought, probably wrong.
shitar2k Pfft please do some research. Pandas only live in China, while bamboo grows in every tropical location on Earth. Your comment is completely illogical, people aren't going to China to take the bamboo that Pandas feed, which is a very small area by the way
how many bamboo plants? about 1 or 2... bamboo is not a tree, its more like a grass. in one plant, or root system, there can be on average 4-5 bamboo shoots. some species produce even 10 or more from a single root system. given that most bamboo grows at about 2 feet per day, you can potentially be making a new board every day given that you don't need to replant bamboo since cutting it down doesn't kill it. also, you forget that bamboo is stronger than maple so it doesn't need to be as thick.
cause there stronger and last way longer...take alwhile for it to break...even with age it get a bit flexy and bendable but still doesnt break for a few years
+Snakebloke wtf is wrong with you? can't you hold a discussion? ..Anyway I come here making searches cause with longboards it seems there are some issues with the bamboo, awesome for cruising, but not good for down hill (under lot of stress not in the line of his flex it seems it can crack easily) ..I'm just searching about it, not prooving anything, but there are still plenty of reasons to discuss ..change attitude if you wanna save the planet ;)
Bamboo. Said to be stronger than steel and is bendable. It grows 4 feet a day (you say 2) and can be grown almost anywhere in the world. It is also super light. The guy wasn't really tryin to snap the bamboo...buut...he did take his anger out on the maple...he probably got a new bamboo and snapped his old maple....make sense??
Why the heck would you? It's not like if you sell your maple board, the tree will a magically regrow instantly. I would just skate your maple until it breaks, and then buy a Bamboo board. Take my word for it, they're AWESOME and I love 'em. I might even get sponsored by them.
you used what looks like an already used up old maple deck. and a barely used or maybe fresh bamboo? of course the bamboo would win, it hasn't be damaged and used as much as the maple one. I prefer maple.
kyle Another uneducated moron. You either chose a cheap bamboo board or you're just quitting any attempt to be more environmentally-friendly, because it became a mild-inconvenience for you... I'm sure you think electric cars are stupid as well right?
Michael Gombos Yes, a Nissan Leaf. But what does that matter? Shouldn't we do all we can? And if a bamboo skateboard is lighter, and stronger...why not use it?
how flexy is bamboo with a heavy rider? I am 6" tall with a pretty muscular build weighing in around 220. I was looking into 8ply maple decks but as I am a student in wildlife management I really like the idea of bamboo. Just like to cruise and carve. I like the sector 9 peru 5 ply bamboo board. How will thath hold my weight? Thanks in advance
Carbon fiber and bamboo decks are the future.
Yes yes they are
Yes
We need to start switching to bamboo ASAP.

If bamboo grows so fast compared to maple, why are bamboo boards so much more expensive compared to maple boards???
what type of bamboo grows that fast
bamboo is also harder to get razor tail with. more abrasive resistant.
Why the heck would you? It's not like if you sell your maple board, the tree will a magically regrow instantly. I would just skate your maple until it breaks, and then buy a Bamboo board. Take my word for it, they're AWESOME and I love 'em. I might even get sponsored by them.
If you already have high pop, it doubles when you get on a bamboosk8 deck. See for yourself:)
are there places in England that sell bamboo skateboards is so where ????????????????????????
why dont more people skate bamboo? Is there a difference in ride quality?
how much do they bend tho, heard they are super bendy compared to regular maple, which could be really distracting
you used what looks like an already used up old maple deck. and a barely used or maybe fresh bamboo? of course the bamboo would win, it hasn't be damaged and used as much as the maple one. I prefer maple.
Buy two new of the each board use them for 2 weeks maybe 3 then try to snap it and see which is weaker
@Skater9881 it says belfast at the end
Which is better canadian maple or thriftwood construction?
Bamboo is flexible, when it gets impact if flex a little bit to absorb it...
I had a bamboo board it brike in like a month, i had a p2 it broke in lile a month and a half, ill just stick 2 maple they seem to last longer for me
kyle Another uneducated moron.
You either chose a cheap bamboo board or you're just quitting any attempt to be more environmentally-friendly, because it became a mild-inconvenience for you...
I'm sure you think electric cars are stupid as well right?
"Environmentally freindly" do you own a car? Lol
Michael Gombos Yes, a Nissan Leaf. But what does that matter? Shouldn't we do all we can? And if a bamboo skateboard is lighter, and stronger...why not use it?
+Snakebloke i think your fuckin stupid
kyle dude this guy says the same thing to every comment.
SPIRAL THREADS: what is the brand/company that makes the bamboo deck u tested in this video?
@skateboardguyLS They definitely are a heck of alot stronger what one did you skate?
the maple was worn down and old the bamboo was brand new but its worth a try
does habitat skateboards make bamboo decks?
@69Ryanburke yeah but it still shows how cstrong bamboo boards are, shit ima start skateing bamboo
Amazing comparison!
how flexy is bamboo with a heavy rider? I am 6" tall with a pretty muscular build weighing in around 220. I was looking into 8ply maple decks but as I am a student in wildlife management I really like the idea of bamboo. Just like to cruise and carve. I like the sector 9 peru 5 ply bamboo board. How will thath hold my weight? Thanks in advance
@devontheskater we were, it just wouldn't snap
Banboo wood is very flexable
does your friend have a sponsor so he can break decks like anything?
does it matter what country the maple is from
Deshaun Canagasabey thanks mate so chinise maple is as good as canadian
@spiralthreadsstore please do i want this board badly and thank you that your going to fix the site cause i really would love to buy this deck
What the heck. I'm totally sold!
BamooSK8 has boards that are very competitively priced compared to maple decks...I love my deck...
because of the unbeleivable strength it has... did you not see the video?
Save the maples! Give me more maple syrup! ;-)
Cool vid.
