Following another foray into the aviary to check on mum and bub, the baby as still not attached to a nipple but mum is cleaning it and enjoying some black currant juice, calcium syrup and glucose gel which has stopped the shaking.
We are still waiting on the placenta but that can take some time to appear.
Generally speaking, the baby suckling should produce additional oxytocin which should then contribute to contractions to birth the placenta.
Once the placenta is produced, mum will dutifully chew it up and eat it before nipping the umbilical cord.

still attached to her in a literal sense, maybe they haven't attached to an arm pit because of the umbilical cord still being attached...but im not a baby dr, so i'm assuming that is the reason. he's still being fed via that tube i guess.
