I find myself always thinking that a Peter Brown video isn't complete without Mrs Brown inspecting the work at some point 😂. Great project, keep up the good work Peter, love the channel.
The feeling of satisfaction from putting a precision bend in a piece of flat-bar for the first time is on roughly the same level as the very first time you manage to saw a straight line without drifting off to one side. Some deep animal part of you is convinced you are the greatest craftsman since Daedelus.
Ooh, the twisted pieces look like they’d make some neat windchimes that could double as those little bird repellant rods. I’m excited to see what else you do with these tools.
It could be interesting to keep all of those rivet punch circles for a future project. This is hella cool looking, though, and I love the combination of soft curls and harder straight edges.
@@morgan0 If the thingamawhatsits were put into a narrow/thin resin inlay, it could be centered in the circumference of a bowl or plate, to look like it was suspended in a ring. Could be nifty.
The first version reminded me of the "affoles lamps", that were supposed to be unstable, so that when you were walking on a wooden floor, the light would shake!... Those had quite a success at that time!
I am a fan of the contrast between the delicateness of the glass and the industrialness of the stand but also looking somewhat delicate with the curves in the material. At first I wasn't sure this was going to work but at the end of it, it worked out well.
Good on you for getting it right. Many would call the machine the metal bender, when actually you’re the metal bender. The machine is the metal bender’s monster.
Yaaaas!!! We have this set up at the Men's Shed and it's great seeing somebody going from "Oh I don't really do much craft and I mean.. metal.. that's hard.." to "Right, this week, I'm building a plant pot holder..." and they're able to just crack on!
I loved this metal working company. I had most of their tools and loved working with them. Great project to start with. You should use the pin to hold the steal in the scroler with the handle that you used. It makes a nicer scroll. There should be a pin that locks the steal in place.
For anyone who does have photosensitivity the last weld is done by 8:22 and it is safe to look again, he's taken of his welders helm and placed it on the table though he does grind the project to smooth the welds
its good seeing conventions like makerscentral showing real old technology like that small metal bender and helps get new eyes onto it. When i was in collage 20+ years ago they had a similar setup a student made in the 70s and had been fixed and upgraded over the 30 years of use it got
It looks like a decent product, however the biggest question I have is the range of stock sizes it can accommodate. Also, everything there is cold-worked. I would like to see someone who is a blacksmith use these tools with heated metal and see how it performs against their own jigs they've made and if there's a noticeable difference in end product result.
My first job as a teenager (many decades ago) was making ornamental iron step railings. Learned shaping and welding that has helped at various points in life.
Love this one it's come out beautifully and it's great that you showed how even the best laid plans don't always go the way we want them to. What about a large garden wind chime, you could use these new techniques and resin in lots of bright colours 😀
It was great to meet you and your good lady wife at Makers Central earlier this year, you've knocked it out of the park with your first metalcraft project Peter. Looking forward to more.
I absolutely love simple tools like that, and they don't require that much precision either which is great. You might want to get your table a bit more s'table though. Also ngl I chuckled a bit when the stand was supper wobbly. I suppose there's a god reason why they usually use square stock on old school lamp stand.
I’m barely 2 minutes in and I’m confident enough that I’ve given it up thumbs up. Onto the rest of the video. I’m so excited. Seriously. Just finished the video: YAY!! Peter has a new skill. I’m excited to see what he creates with his new toy. The lamp is an excellent start.
The description made me laugh 🤣

Still waiting for that straight line... Stil waiting.....
I'm more of an air bender myself, but metal bending is highly respected as well.
Does farting count as air bending?
And with some practice and lighter, you can be a fire bender too
If you watched the Legend of Korra, then yes.
@@Guru_1092 in Ryan's case, yes.
@@Guru_1092 it also counts as painting, if there's moisture.

rivet punches as a resin filler sounds like it could be cool. might need to punch aluminum so it’s possible to lathe easily

I was thinking the same thing.
That multi-jointed, eventually round jig is super simple yet super effective. Many turkeys to you this day, Peter. 👍

"This used to be a Woodworking channel."--Peter Brown. Love all your stuff, my man!

Love this channel, love this project, and enjoy seeing Peter getting closer and closer to caving in and becoming a hobby machinist :D
Awesome, thank you!

i would like to see a metal park bin with cool resin sides to it like a stained glass window
Love how the lamp looks in the end! Well done!
I love seeing you growing your skillset and having fun new toys to make your wonders with!
These tools are so cool!!! It was almost magical watching you bend the metal that way, you made it look so easy!
Love this lamp - great job.
So glad you picked up those tools for working metal. Perfect use for that lamp shade!
It's always lovely to see that one of your favorite makers is also a part of your favorite fandom

Peter! This is awesome! I love the new variety, and I look forward to seeing more of your awesome projects!
the cutting of the bolts at 30 seconds blew my mind, I've always just disregarded those holes
Beautiful! The base does look wonderful with that shade. I love the idea of colored bulbs. Happy Thanksgiving to you and Mrs. Brown!

That is a cool looking lamp. Nice job
My first job as a teenager (many decades ago) was making ornamental iron step railings.
Learned shaping and welding that has helped at various points in life.
Great project!
What a cool lamp! You did an awesome job! 😃
Nice work the stand suits the shade for sure. I remember doing a tiny bit of this type of metal work in middle school shop class.
It turned out great
Great job!
Thanks for sharing.
Your video is a great start to the holiday weekend. 🎉
That’s a really neat setup!
I think that looks great!
I think Toph would approve of your metal bending skills.

I love this. It's beautiful. The look of wrought iron, but prolly half the weight.
It was great to meet you and your good lady wife at Makers Central earlier this year, you've knocked it out of the park with your first metalcraft project Peter.

Excellent video
It's brand new but looks reasonably antique. Great job!
That metal bending tool looks like fun!
i did a similar project a couple years ago but instead of a lamp it was a bird feeder. its still in service as well
Cool! It's fun material to work with!
Awesome job, Peter. That lampshade was simply waiting for you to find the steel, they're a perfect match 👌 👏
That's a pretty sweet system dude!
that's so badass! it works so well with the lampshade. happy thanksgiving to you too!
I really love that especially with the multicolored light!! Really pretty :D need to watch the lampshade video now
Absolutely amazing, keep it up. that kit was worth the risk i can't wait to see what you make in the future now.
Wow, that turned out beautiful! Good you didn’t give up (let’s hope Mrs. Brown will always be right about those things 😁).

Thanks Peter!
Really cool lamp, great video as usual, Happy thanksgiving Mr & Mrs Brown.
Finishing a project? Now that's something I need to learn.
From an artist's standpoint, the brittle glass opposes the curls of the steel perfectly!
Interesting project
Great Video as always Peter, I've been watching for years and you are consistently unique - well done. Keep It Up, Buddy!
Great Project Peter ! Happy Thanks Giving to you as well !
Thank you. Happy Thanksgiving Doug!
man that is cool as heck!

I loved the cracked glass lampshade when you made it, and I love what you ended up doing with it! I need to go find these tools... 🤣
Here earlier than ever 😆 Love your work Mr Brown!
Your lamp turned out wonderfully. Thank you for the photosensitivity warning, btw. Much appreciated!

I made a plant hanger using the same kind of tools in highschool such a fun project that was
So cool
I'd love to see a metal side table with a resin top of some kind. I think it would be cool as heck.
Very cool. I'd love to see a matching end table with a broken glass top
