- [07.07.2020] I swear, of all the things I threw out there during live commentaries because I was panicking and didn't have anything better to say, I will never live down me ranting about the Solaris. I had so many more brilliant nuanced takes, such as my deep philosophical Soulframe fire debate, but no, it's the damn Solaris AND I WAS RIGHT ALL ALONG ANYWAYS AND I'LL DIE ON THIS HILL EVEN IF I AM WRONG but I guess that's just how creative content works, really. It's random. You don't get to choose what's your most popular thing or what people end up associating with you. Because if I could, I would be certainly known as the based Fractured Space Hunter hard carry #1 top world player (which was not as difficult feat to accomplish as it sounds, considering that game's population was lower than my teeth count near the end of its lifespan).

To anyone asking why the corpus keep the Solaris around, they’re almost constantly in debt to the corpus so any money they make has to go back to the corpus. Also the organic ones have to pay for their cybernetic repairs, the robots dont pay to be repaired

Sir you are become Corpus board director. You have one of two financial choices.
Do you:
1. Hire one Corpus worker.
2. Train the Corpus worker in robotics maintenance and operation.
3. Pay once for 30 robots and a handful of recharging stations.
4. Manufacture and pay for replacement parts as required.
Or do you:
1. Hire 30 Solaris workers.
2. Manufacture 30 sets of separate cybernetic augmentations to improve their efficiency to be up to the standards of a robot.
3. Ensure Solaris workers are fed and provided sufficient life support to maintain work efficiency.
4. Pay them a meagre amount so you can immediately put the meagre amount back into your accounts.
5. Manufacture and pay for replacement parts as required
6. At this point, make the tools for them to be able to do their work.
7. Send debt collectors and knee-breakers on a semi-frequent basis to make sure they keep working. (Those kneebreakers have to be separately paid, trained, equipped and housed.)
8. Pay a separate operator to keep an eye on their movements and tap their radios.
9. Pay a separate taskmaster to communicate orders from above and make sure they stay on task.
10. Maintain a security detail to make sure they don't run off. (Has to be separately paid, trained, equipped and housed).

Kepping the solaris as literal slaves is actually pretty inefficient as they're almost always kept poor because they can barely pay their small debts and body part replacements. Such a community would be an insignificant income increase to a company such as, probably, Nef Anyo's one, as they barely produce shit on that colony, have huge downtimes due to being humans and can't better their production methods. As a bank, interest on a small value is still a small value for a long time and if that value gets to a significant point, the uber inefficient solaris workers won't be actually able to pay for it and could even die before paying a significant amount. The interest may exponentially rise, but such workers can only linearly produce more.
Having drones do the actual fucking work with a handful of technicians would increase the troughput of the colony a lot. The solaris, able to pay their debts can take even more credit and invest, produce more and repeat the cycle (with the same interest rates, but with much more interest). One lucky rich solaris could make up for that whole ass colony.

If they Corpus have so many proxies, why do they keep *crew*men around?
kinds of unrelated, but it gave me an idea: what if The Solaris were a union of the crewman instead of whatever they are. Would be a good way for The Corpus to be seen as somewhat neutral faction, exploring more closely what makes simple people to join the Corpus crew and their motivations. Hell, even their doubts (about Corpus) and problems, to humanize the ones that we kill without a second thought just because they're le bad.
