🤣🤣👏👏😂😂
Well, I’m going to see it anyways cause I loved the movie the crow I love the books on the comics and I have all the movies. So I’m just gonna watch it for the love of the story.
"Needlessly edgy" is the most on-point critique I've heard so far. The original was a perfect melding of Alex Proyas' neo-noir world-building and Brandon Lee putting his heart and soul not only into his performance but also into developing the character with Proyas and making the film was it is.
"[Brandon] was really instrumental in getting it as close to the comic as it is. As far I'm concerned, Brandon and Proyas are what made the first film."
- James O'Barr (2000)
The 1994 movie was a perfect mix of grunge rock, gothic setting and an unforgettable performance by Brandon Lee. He was able to convey the emotional pain of the character. The new movie seems to be marketed for Gen-Z, who may appreciate the John wick style and the bloody violence more than a deeply moving story that you can resonate with.
Which is pretty much what the sequels were like too. They forgot to have heart.
Exactly, it’s not supposed to be like the original
@@user-yj2mn2jw1n or the source material
@@user-yj2mn2jw1n lol there's different and then there's hijacking a name and premise that has nothing to do with the generic action thriller revenge porn schlock someone modeled after John wick. RIP Brandon Lee. In ten years, we'll still be watching and enthralled with the original *The Crow.* Nobody will ever appreciate this souless cash grab, its doomed to obscurity.
Nothing will ever beat Eric Draven's quote from 1994's The Crow: "They are all dead, they just don't know it yet."
you know that "Iconic Line" comes from Fist Of The North Star.
@@bruceleeds7988 That line has such a simplicity to it, it genuinely seems like both could have come up with it.
Yeah, I know it's more probable it was stolen and I'm sorry to hear it (I take it Fist of the North Star came out before the original Crow).
I'm not trying to dump on North Star, what little I know of anime I've heard it's considered a classic alongside Akira and Ghost In The Shell.
(I actually first heard about North Star as a video game in the early '90s when I read about it in Nintendo Power)
Absolute 100% fact
Was that in the original story from James O'Barr's graphic novel?...or was it just Alex Poyas line he written for the film?

As a storyteller, if it was me, I wouldn’t have use Brandon lee’s crow. Like you said, many have took on the title of the crow, so I would’ve made a completely new character, with a new story, and if I wanted to give a tribute to Brandon, I would’ve just have him be mentioned, or have a grave for his crow, or have him in a dream sequence reciting Edgar Allan Poe. Anything but this this
Exactly
DUDE YES! NOW THAT would've been a good way to remember him.
Brandon Lees The Crow is a Classic masterpiece that should have been left alone.
We went from 90's grunge, to stylized auto-tune. If this is made for the modern audience, then I can't stand whomever the modern audience is supposed to be.
It's people from age 13 to 29 those folks are the ones wanting posty and the auto tune Lords

One of the main things they got wrong with this reboot is that we can see this story taking place during the day. I know this isnt an adaptation of the Alex Proyas film, but having it all take place at night is one of the things that kept that movie "dark"
It’s actually (from what I can see) the only thing this movie got right. The Crow (doesn’t matter which one) operates at all hours.
It takes real talent to make Eddie Furlong's portrayal in The Crow: Wicked Prayer look like a masterpiece by comparison.
Now that you mention it, James O'Barr obviously disliked the sequels but had praised Eric Mabius' performance in third one.
To quote Edgar Allen Poe:
-Reboot The Crow, Nevermore!
LOL yep
Trailer looks like an immortal Joker showed up in John Wick's universe
Sooo you mean the crow?
😂 true
@@Dragonflee100 the crow is an avenging Angel with a gothic theme, The crow is nothing like John wick or Joker
damn if that aint basically what i thought. i thought the teaser images were some sort of joker test look before saw it was for the crow.
The whole assembled cast of the original Crow was phenomenal, and they all created a masterpiece. This remake is just another movie.
It should be a crime to remake some of these classic movies, because to those of us who love the originals, it is. The original movie of the Crow is so iconic, you just cannot recreate the magic of that film. The cinematography, the story, the soundtrack, Brandon Lee at his best. There’s no point trying to remake that, and it’s disgrace that they even tried.
When this trailer came out today I was like "Lionsgate better be prepared for Snarky Jay to crush this..." 😆

It's worse than I thought and I thought it was going to be horrendous. Autotune. Check. Show the entire movie in the trailer. Check. John Wick vibes. Check. Cheap Gore/blood. Check. Weak generic villains. Check. 2 Protagonists I care ZERO about. Check. The SOLE Reason the Crow was finished was to honor Brandon Lee. He's the only Eric Draven. As you mentioned before had you named this guy ANYTHING but Eric Draven, we would not care. But now we DO Care, and I'm just happy that this movie will bomb and be forgotten within weeks.
THIS. Yes. You're right.
YES! Exactly! My thoughts but articulated so much better.
Bill Skarsgard in this looks like The Crow version of Jared Leto's Joker.
i dont know if it was temporary soundtrack, but at least it had legit goth music.
exactly! it's already in the ''that remake never happened" pile 💯💯💯💯
The Crow:City of Angels is beginning to look good...thanks to this.
I always thought it was pretty good
Yeahhh Vincent Perez was done the good job on it.... So underrated movie....
The fucked up thing about this is that it could've been ANYBODY inheriting the Crow abilities! WHY did it HAVE to be Eric!?
Yeah I know this is going to sound psychotic but the one thing that really irks me is that the death scene for Shelly and Eric is super tame. I mean I knew in this day and age there was no way they were going to show a woman getting beaten and graped but there's no torment to their end and the torment and pain in the original is what made Eric's revenge so powerful. Of course now that they're introducing this concept that he can save her soul I suppose their deaths don't need to be full of torment and pain because I'm sure he's not going to use any of that against the villain like he did in the original.
Exactly my thoughts when i seen that lame ass death scene.
Yeah this also looks like it was shot in the suburbs. A little more Detroit and a little less Bloomfield Hills, please.
Have you ever been without breath? No air? It sucks. It’s horrific honestly
it's been many moons since i've watch original Crow, but were they drug using lovers?
@@vuton7670No just lovers. In the comic Eric takes morphine a couple of times after he comes back to life though.
He was in Detroit with my mom, when she was researching crows right before she died.
He looks more like a resurrected gang member from the first movie. "Funboy strikes back"
My thoughts can be summed up by one classic sentence: "Thanks! I hate it!"
Yep
Plus, where's the guitar? That scene from the original, when he's rocking guitar on the roof, man that gets me every time, or that scene where he take the heroin out of that woman's veins, that line mother is the God, damn that movie is in my top ten, just think we wouldn't have the style of the Matrix without this epic movie.
His "I'm going to kill them, every single one of them " doesn't hit like "They're all dead. They just don't know it yet. " or "Victims, aren't we all. " among other issues I heard you mention Jay.
Those lines were classics. This is just... bleh.

Bram Stoker's Dracula was a period piece that paid respect in many ways to Legosi's and Lee's Draculas, while still updating it for the 90's. This new Crow movie seems more Dracula 2000.
Lugosi*
It's crowin' time! This crow took a peck of Punisher, a shot of trailer park and a beak full of Morbius.
Once again Hollywood missed out on yet ANOTHER great opportunity. In 1996 James O' Barr co-wrote a Crow comic called "The Crow: Flesh and Blood." In it a woman named Iris Shaw dies when a government building she worked in was bombed by an anti-government militia group. She can't rest because she had just found out that she was pregnant right before her death and so is resurrected by the Crow to take revenge. Hollywood could have made a Crow movie with a girl boss female lead and probably gotten a lot of butts in seats to see it. But as usual, they're too lazy and stupid to see opportunities even when most of the work was already done for them.
Draven is more known and loved character. People are made at the movies cause of the Late Brandon's passing so that automatically creares prejudice agaisnt this
Hollywood isn’t very smart
@@abyss7688most of the fans of the original are at least tangentially aware of the existence of the comic book and the sequel comic book.
Totally agree dude. I have the Flesh and Blood and its brilliant comic that could have easily been adapted into a movie. Without the whole female lead angle that Hollywood seems to be obsessed about, on its own merit it is a great story.
happy that someone else remembers that little gem! indeed just copy paste "The Crow: Flesh and Blood."
Controversial opinion: If they weren't using the character names of Eric Draven and Shelly Webster, it wouldn't be that bad for a Crow movie. I mean, prime example, we did get The Crow:Wicked Prayer and that movie was an absolute stinker.
First thing, a reboot is not going to have the exact same elements from the original. Being a die hard fan of the original crow and Eric/Shelly love story, I knew this will take an exactly different approach. I mean what's the point if the reboot has all the elements exactly like the original? We have multiple versions of Joker, multiple versions of almost everything. I'm definitely watching this, but not going to compare this movie with the original because it is untouchable. Comparison is the first mistake.
The Crow is probably one of the most difficult movies to really get right. The fact that they believe they can do it in the current year with all modern sensibilities attached, is astounding. This movie needs genuine edge that they will never achieve.
Side note: youre closing in on that 50k! 😆
So sad but so true.
And yes, I'm so excited! Can't believe it.
Why is everyone hating on this movie? As someone who has never heard of The Crow, I think it looks cool
@@jeepercreep12It's just not like the original, like it's a modern day remake that will be like every other remake / current movie. Biggest issue is that it wont have the originals soul so it comes off as a cash grab. A movies soul is a nuanced thing. At least there's hope, they're rereleasing the original Crow in UHD.
I was there in 94 at the first Crow screening in Chicago. There was electricity in the theater. The audience knew it was going to be special and boy did it deliver. This.....doesn't feel special. And I agree the music is almost impossible to match from the original.
I honestly can't believe Skarsgard went along with this. He's usually really good at choosing roles. This is such a 2024 movie. And I'm sorry Snarky, because I take this as seriously as you do, but I could not help but BUST OUT LAUGHING watching your facial expressions. So perfect and hilariously in tune with how most of us feel about this. Good Vid!
Same, I've loved Skarsgard in all of his other films. But I feel like he probably signed up thinking it'd be cool to be The Crow without paying attention to the screenplay (or maybe the screenplay he read wasn't exactly the same as the one they ended up going with cos they always do so many rewrites).
He just wants to be known as the remake guy I guess. He is lame. Call it what it is.
He should just of stuck with been Pennywise he made a perfect Pennywise but in general his brother in true blood will always be better big time

Movies like The Crow are called classics for a reason and aren't meant to remade for anything if you won't respect the source material
So, so true.
In fairness I think they’re trying to emulate the original Source Mayerial! The Crow was a graphic novel and unlike the film which was a story about conquering grief, the Crow Graphic Novel was a dark, morose and depressing story! But they did the edge a bit over the top!
The classsic crow movie wasn't a 100% faithful adaption either

🐦⬛ It absolutely doesn't feel like the original very much, I heard "not much time to save her" or whatever, but in the original there wasn't really any stakes or urgency to save her, she was simply dead, and everything he did was motivated by vengeance/revenge, not heroism and that made it much more of a chill movie in my opinion
Right?? Like what are they doing here.
It's not his soul that can't rest. It's hers. He's enacting revenge on her behalf (and his own) so she can rest.
She's very much dead.

There are so many Crow comics with different kinds of stories that they could’ve chose from; and they still went the lazy route and remade the original. The original is my favorite movie of all time, so this makes me sad.
Gorgeous dress by the way love the hairstyle too!😍🥰
Thanks Michael!
I still think that, if they just change the names via ADR, people would be more open to see this. The original should never be touched, it's a pop culture icon and deserves to be respected.
I want to know who thought it was a good idea to take a gothic masterpiece, and retell it through the lenses of Suicide Squad and John Wick.
Now, the latter with its visceral action sequences would be appropriate to add to this story, but a great storyteller knows that some elements of a story need to remain shrouded in mystery. That's where the romance lives!
Don't even get me started on that soundtrack. Having Ozzy's voice in there gives is some minor credibility, but I doubt it'll be enough to save this.

And theres a ticking clock for Shelly’s soul? And the villains purposefully come after the couple in this but in the comic, Eric and Shelly were literally in the wrong place at the wrong time. The “you’re running out of time to save her” line has me even more sus on this, because they are both dead, what is she being saved from? Are they saying he is the crow so she doesn’t go to hell now?
I could see that
Love seeing you in black! You're so beautiful! 😘😍🥰🖤
Thank you so much!
I think it looks pretty good and the original is in my top 5 movies of all time. It came out when I was a junior in highschool and have watched it more times than anyone I know. "Oh my God, I can't believe they are remaking the original Crow!". Nevermind that every other comic character has been redone dozens of times in the last 30 years.
Exactly
I remember the original movie in 94, I was a huge Brandon Lee fan. You are right it is not the most intellectual movie there is but there was a connection between Eric and Shelly that showed on screen that was captivating for the audience. I could not see that from the Trailor. I am very worried that the reboot/remake will not translate very well for people who saw the 94 film. Love the videos Snarky, keep it up.
There's also the Edward Furlong Crow, Kirsten Dunst Crow and Iggy Pop Crow. This isn't the worst. Brandon Lee version had it's problems too, like adding a Super Villain main boss that isn't in the comic. Still waiting for a true adaptation.
Been years since I watched the other movies n tv show. But to my recollection they tried to honour and/or add to Brandon’s legacy. This one’s gonna take added heat just because its a “reboot” instead of a sequel. Hell, Beetlejuice 2 thus far is being celebrated.
They're all clones of the Lee version because it was successful. None are true to source material. How would you do a real sequal anyway? Lee comes back from the dead to avenge his own death? At least we didn't get a fat black lesbian woke version of the Crow. Could have been worse. @@geepike
@@themediadead7787 sequel only in the regard that its a different story about different people. I take no issue with similarities or deviations from source material. Imo possibly the biggest problem with current films (besides forced politics) is that they cant write characters or stories to save their lives. Frankly Id happily watch a movie about a “fat black lesbian” if there was a character driven story there.
I was not a fan of the Melissa Mcarthy Ghostbusters. 2nd Crow was different in that he was avenging his son and not a girl. Would be nice to get an origin story of the Crow mythos. Indian War chief coming back to avenge his tribe or something. Rob Zombie was going to do a Crow in the future once upon a time. Crow 2099. But that's all too creative for Hollywood @@geepike
City of Angels is a direct sequel to the 1st as it features a grown up version of the Sarah character.@@geepike
