- I found a bigger Lake Superior agate than I ever thought was possible in the area I hunt. It tipped the scales at a whopping four pounds.

- KINGSLEY NORTH -
Kingsley North is a lapidary store in Michigan's U.P. They make a great cab machine and sell many other brands too. They have a huge selection rough rock, tumblers, grit, jewelry supplies etc. at good prices. I buy most of my coarse grit from here in 45 lb. bags. It's the best price I have found. If you buy using the following link, I make a small commission.

“Seems right” about the seam agate made me laugh and snort😂😁
Some really great rocks. The black and white cow rock was my favorite
I'm glad someone appreciates my dorky sense of humor.
Spectacular rocks you & Sam found today. The Jasper you found was really nice. I loved the brilliant red color. The Pseudomorph Agate is absolutely beautiful. I can't wait to see what you're going to do with that big one
I'm not planning to do anything with it except to oil it with mineral oil.
@@MichiganRocks When I find huge rocks, I do the same & then give it 4 or 5 clear coats of varnish
Hopefully he polishes it like he did the pudding stone!
@@manisteerocks7092 He told me all he plans to do with it is give it a good rub with mineral oil
@@OntarioRob shucks...lol
Beautiful!! I’d want to take home everything I see!
Ohhh man! That is FABULOUS!! Congratulations on that find! Beautiful day!
😃🙌🏼💯
Thanks!
Wow! Great finds! Love that beach and can hardly wait to visit again!
That's awesome Rob. Congratulations 🎊 on the 4 lb agate. It's a real beautiful one. Lots of cool rocks to look at.
Thanks, Donna!
Oh man, the tease, can't wait to see what it looks like!
What a wonderful load of lovely rocks. And that huge agate!!! Congratulations on the find, and on taking it home despite its size. Wowzer!
God bless.
Take care.
And stay vigilant.
Thanks, Debra!
That is one heck of an agate, you guys! Beautiful spot, too!
That is a great find Rob!! You are killing it with the agates this year! Congrats!! What will you do with it?
I have only coated it in mineral oil. That's all I plan to do for now.
Very cool! Congrats, Rob! Really great find and a really nice beach day. I enjoy looking through the rocks as you film them whilst walking, very relaxing. Sam's been a nice addition to the cast, it's clear he's knowledgeable in his own right and you guys find some great stuff. Thanks for taking us along for the ride :)
Sam is fun to have along. It's nice to have someone there to show your finds to.
Okay , now you’re officially one step closer to finding a big real agate Rob ! Wishing you all the best 💗👍
Oh wow! What a great agate! All that and a beautiful day too!
So happy for you! I’ve seen how much you love agates. It’s a really cool one too.
I have had the same message you have about text for a draw, I've reported mine to yt
Well done Rob! That's a whopper. TFS 💖💔🎸🏏
Absolutely amazing finds. I love your channel & havent missed one yet! My ultimate wish is that when you scout the shorelines & find those weird, odd & just downright rocks that stump our imagination & so spectacular we have no words.... please give us an educated guess of what you think and show it a tad longer because i know many of us rockhounders out there have rocks like those & we wanna know what they could be because we love them too. Those are the rocks we wanna know more about...the ones we know nothing or very little about. Thanks for sharing all your rock adventures. I appreciate you.
You would have to be a geologist to know what every rock is imo. Rob knows a lot about rocks through. I appreciate when he says I don't know what this rock is. I'm sure most of us rockhounds don't know what every rock is.
Unfortunately, I’m not a geologist and don’t even know that much about geology. I’m much more into the lapidary part of this hobby. I know a few rocks and mention what they are when I do.
I could probably do a better job of showing the rocks for a bit longer. It’s really difficult to keep everyone happy though. On one hand, I want to show the rocks long enough that you get a good look at it, but on the other hand, if I don’t go fast enough, the video will be too slow moving for some people.
Keep the advice coming, I listen to all of it.
Wow that is a beauty! Nice hunt. Be safe and happy hounding.
What a find! Very cool. So many beautiful rocks on that beach. It would be hard to decide which ones to keep! 😂
loved the zebra rock & the swirly driftwood. the white & black at 3:05 got a “wow” out of me! 9:05 was gorgeous. congrats on the HUGE agate!
There sure were a lot of fun things to see that day. God is spoiling me.
I’ve really enjoyed this video series with you and Sam at Lake Superior. I’m with you leave the big agate like it is. Congrats on finding it and it kind of makes me wonder if some of them magates that we find aren’t really agates and we just don’t know what kind they are yet. Really liked the rock with the iridescent pebbles in it.
I was wondering the same thing. I need to look through my magates to see if there are any other pseudomorph agates. It seems like I’ve seen agates like this before.
I was filled with excitement when at the beginning you found a big agate. Then I was at the edge of my seat waiting to see it. It’s gorgeous! The rock I liked best, besides the 4lb agate was the one with the “glint- changing color black spotted stone.
That one was pretty cool.
Absolutely amazing!!! I'm so jealous and wish I could be with you guys rock hounding on that beach. Great find as well.
🙋♀️🥇A 4 lb agate! Wow! I was surprised You took such a big rock home!
It was an agate! There’s no way I would leave that one behind. I wasn’t at all sure it was an agate when I picked it up, but I thought it was a possibility.
@@MichiganRocks curious. What are your plans with it? Slab? Book ends? Or complete polish? Wondering what to do with mine. Torn between cutting it open or just polishing it.
@@tymorris7677 I’m just keeping mine as is for now.
That agate is gorgeous! It's insane to me how an agate can "replace" another mineral. Those are just things i cannot think about or imagine normally
It’s nice that we have had a lot of geologists before us that have figured some of these things out.
Thanks Rob and Sam for sharing your adventures.
You're welcome, John!
It was nice that you finally got a break from the flies. I wonder where they all went. I liked the black and white color changing rock. Did you take that one home? The agate was a good find. It would look good slabbed, so you could see the inside. Poor Sam must have been freezing is shorts and flip flops. I don’t think that he was expecting 51 degree weather.
Neither of us were expecting it to be quite that cold I was in shorts and wading in the water too. As long as you're dressed warm on the tip, it's not that bad. The flies are worst in hot weather. They don't seem to be out nearly as much in the cold or wind. I'm not sure where they hunker down on those days. We made two videos on this day and the two flies videos were made the day before.
Hey Rob, congrats on that huge agate! So excited for you! Keep up the good work!
Thanks, Spencer!
Absolutely stunning beach! Congrats on the monster agate!😊
Thanks, Ginger!
WOWSA, ROB!! That was some 4-pounder pseudomorph!! I'll bet you were happy that you took that one home. Are you going to leave it as a specimen and admire it? Having fun going along with you and Sam on the Agate Hunts.
Yep, I have just oiled it and want to keep it that way.
Great finds as always!
Nice find! Our Michigan beaches are so beautiful. I never take them for granted.
I do not take them for granite. I try to remember to thank God every day.
@@MichiganRocksyou also do a wonderful job sharing them with everyone watching. It is pretty awesome.
OMGOODNESS!! Love the big agate but the smaller stones would make me so so happy. I simply love the beaches there with beautiful wind and waves and rocks
The smaller rocks make me happy too. That big one made me even happier, though.
@@MichiganRocks yes! I’ve never seen one close to that big. I love your channel.
Absolutely amazing find! That pseudo morph agate is really pretty! 😍🥰😇👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Thanks, Indyana!
@@MichiganRocks Your welcome! 😍🥰😇👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Wow! You all did great! Some really gorgeous rocks and I love your big pseudomorph agate! It is so beautiful with all the pattern and colors! I would love to visit the UP during the summer to look for my own collection of beautiful rocks! 😊
The U.P. is a beautiful place. If you get the chance, you should definitely visit.
@@MichiganRocks I'm definitely planning a trip next summer...or sooner if I happen to come into a load of cash lol.
@@justjulee9135 I hope you do!
Heck yeah Rob, that's a great find, wow!!!!
Congratulations on the pseudomorph agate! Sam and you find some great rocks. I didn't buy any of that ocean jasper. To expensive it my opinion. It's beautiful but I can't afford it.
Good Ocean Jasper costs a fortune. I'd love to tumble a batch but that would be foolish.
I would love for you to do a two part video. First part showing the rock hunt and second part showing you tumbling those rock and how they turn out when polished. I keep seeing the rocks you pick up and think "I want to see that one polished." Thanks for all the work you put into your videos. Keep up the good work!
You will eventually see rocks from this beach tumbled, but tumbling typically takes me a couple months. I have done lots of other videos showing Michigan rocks that I have tumbled.
Another smashing success! Most of the rocks you guys were showing were very nice, mostly keepers for me and my crew. But that colossal agate is extraordinary!! So very pretty, very unique! Great finds.
I'm pretty excited to have found an agate so big.
@@MichiganRocks any burning ideas yet? Would you slab such a rock, or polish the exterior only? Maybe a hand sanding? Or just leave it as is and enjoy (my suspicions).
@@berjo77 You suspected correctly.
I bet that huge rock would look cool split down the middle. Really nice find!
It probably would, but we're just going to have to imagine that for now.
I think that location is worthy of additional hunts! Awesome finds Rob and Sam!
It’s the second hunt there this year, and I found big agates both times. Then again, last summer I didn’t find any big agates there. I will go back at some point.
Nice agate find! The other rocks are cool also. I always enjoy the vicarious trips to the beach.
Yep, it wasn't just the agate that was great on this beach.
I am in southwest Michigan, I am so glad I watched this video!! I have "dump" pile of rejected rocks from my hunts. After watching your video, and learning about pseudomorph agates, I had a revelation. There was a good sized rock I had thought was an agate, but wasn't sure and after inspection at home, decided it wasn't, as it was not translucent. Went and found it. Inspected it with a jewlers loop, and bingo. It is a beautiful pseudomorph agate for sure that I had discarded. Thanks to you and your video.
Woo-hoo! Congrats on your find!
Awesome video that psuedomorph agate is killer, definitely a once in a live time find!!!
Just phenomenal!! So glad you found that!
Me too!
Looking for stones on the beachfront speakers, there are indeed many beautiful stones. You find very high quality stones, greetings from Indonesian agate seekers
Thanks, Jhon!
BEST OF SHOW for sure...can't wait to see what you do with it. I know you won't let that one sit.....And you have seriously done wonders with Sam's knowledge of rocks. That's really outstanding too!
I do plan to leave that one as is. It's a trophy just the way it is. Maybe some day in the future I'll do something with it, but for now I'm enjoying it as I found it.
@@MichiganRocks That's illegal. lol
@@LadyYoop Ha!
Great beach. That agate is fantastic and as always thanks for taking us along.
You're welcome!
Congrats Rob, what an awesome find! This kind of agate is what I find at my favorite spot, sometimes they are even bigger than yours. What will you do with it?
Is your spot in Michigan or another state? I’m going to keep my big one the way it is for now.
@@MichiganRocks very good decision Rob.
My spot is in Europe. If you ever visit Europe, tell me and i'll show it to you.
@@stefanieschmid9760 I doubt I'll be doing any rock hunting in Europe, but that sure sounds like fun.
There are so many awesome rocks on that beach! Very cool! The agates that you guys found are really beautiful. That 4 lb pseudomorph agate is AMAZING!!😍🤯 Not only is the size shocking but those bands are seriously drool worthy!😱 It looks so much like a crazy lace agate that it's unreal. You should be very excited over that find, I'm excited for you! That will be the king of agates for generations in your family. Thanks for sharing your trip, the beauties and the beautiful beast you found!✌️🤠
I doubt that I'll ever find anything that big again. I'll keep looking though!
Congrats on the huge agate! You both found a lot of cool stuff.
We had a great day.
Absolutely beautiful finds.
That Agate is amazing.
The stones on that beach are so incredible. So many to choose from.
It's a great beach. All the beaches in that whole area are really amazing, as you've seen over the past few weeks.
@@MichiganRocksreally amazing beaches. I'd take so long to get along the beach, I'd be picking them all up to look at them. They are all so unique.
@@MichiganRocks the lake Huron videos are my favourites,
@@nicolagraynewzealandrockho8976 Better than Lake Superior??? This was in Lake Superior.
@@MichiganRocks I think I put the comment on the wrong video.
Lake Huron is my favourite, but then all the spots you hunt on are beautiful
Super Rock! Insanely jealous :) We are coming to Alpena mid August. Can you advise a public access to hunt for pudding stones? Thank you if you can!
great video! you can backlight the transluscent rocks with handphone flashlight if the sun is not out. great help explanation on the big agate. thanks. God bless Michigan! 😃👍
Yeah, that would be a good idea. Thanks for the tip.
Wow! If I had that beach here I’d be rock hounding every day 😁🥰
Love the wood grain. I hope you kept that one with the irridecent black squares…so cool and unusual. So many amazing stone.
I did not keep that one. I was too busy keeping the big agate.
Congratulations! Incredible find!
Excelentes piedras. Con la lluvia también resaltan los colores
At 11:46 you show a rock that to me looked like a sunset over the very beach you were standing on. It's beautiful. Congratulations on that massive agate! What a find!
A rock with a picture of the beach it was found on is pretty cool.
Wowzer what an agate! Couldn’t have happened to a nicer guy! All your hard work pays off and we get to share in the excitement! Best of luck finding another lunker!

That agate Sam found at 4:55 is super cool!..and that jasper at 1:30 will polish up nicely!..holllllyyyyy smokes that agate at 4:55 looks awesome!
Congratulations on your 4 pounder!..absolutely unreal!
Lots of awesome rocks that day. We got super lucky.
Hello Rob. The 4 pounder is spectacular! If you know Karen Bryz, the owner of the Gitche Gumee Museum in Grand Marais, she may be able to shed further light on the “psuedomorph” agate.
I sent her a picture as soon as I found it. She said that it was a pseudomorph too.
Well, earlier this spring, I commented on the 14 oz. Agate you found there, I was getting a spinal fusion surgery, now you go and find a 4 pound agate!!!😀 congrats!!! I have some interesting rocks from there also, maybe we'll run into each other one of these days by the mouth of the sucker!
It has been a good year for sure. That 14 ounce one was way bigger than anything I had found previously, but this one blew that one away.
Hi Rob! My fiancé and I watch all of your videos, you’re our favorite rock guy! We live in Utah but he is from Michigan and we try to visit at least once a year to look for rocks! We were just there a couple of weeks ago and we found our first LSAs! We also came home with a bunch of “magates” as you call them. I’m just wondering what do you do with yours? Most of ours are quite small but have a lot of the outer rock before you’d get to the inside part that might be agate. Will that outer layer come off in the tumbler? I’m not sure if you’ll see this but thanks in advance for your time and for your videos that help tide us over until the next time we can get back there ourselves!
I don't do anything with my agates. They're so hard to find and usually so small, that I don't want to tumble them. I have all my agates and magates mixed together right now, but I want to separate them and tumble the magates. Since I haven't done that yet, I can't tell you what will happen. I hope that some reveal some hidden bands, but I suspect most will not.
Congrats on the 4-pounder! I have a similar large brecciated stone that was identified as a “skip an atom agate”. Ever heard of that? Wonder if it’s another term for a pseudomorph?
I think a skip an atom is different. I have definitely heard of those, but I don't think I could identify one.
Agreed. I was looking into it a bit and I see they’re different. Mine actually looks more like yours. I’ll send a pic if you’d like to see it.
@@davidl.turner1005 That would be great.
Thanks for leaving stones for others! I know you get 'yelled at' for it but I think it's great you only take what you need!
Just hoarding a bunch of rocks doesn't make sense to me. I'm glad you approve of my methods!
Congrats Rob that Pseudomorph Agate amazing😮
Thanks, Heather!
Gorgeous agate!
Hello, what a nice assortment of rocks! I do want to walk this area.
Anywhere from Grand Marais to Whitefish Point is good rock hunting.
That is the biggest agate I have ever seen outside a museum or mineral display. Nice find!!!
I think it might be the biggest one I have seen in person too.
What a great find!
Congratulations!! Love ❤️ your videos!!
Thanks, Tammy!
You both found some great rocks, a good day was had by all. Bonus, no flies.
Yep, the flies were not a problem with the wind and cold.
Congrats Rob, that's very nice. The new t-shirt designs are nice too.
There aren't actually any new designs, just a new company to print them.
That is SO COOL!!!!! Loved learning about a new kind of agate!!
I did too. It's even more fun when you have one in hand while learning about it.
Congratulations on your 4 pound agate find! 🥳
Thanks, Rosalind!
Now you can claim bragging rights.
Chunker! Can't wait to see it cut and polished!
You’re going to have to wait, because I’m not cutting or polishing it, at least that’s my plan for now. Maybe someday.
Kudos. Beautiful finds, have us all drooling.
some nice finds well done 🎉
Dude! That's awesome! 👊💯 YES!!
I hadn't heard of a pseudomorph before!
I had heard of one, but I'm not very familiar with them. I sure didn't call it on the beach, did I?

I love your videos, they have become a weekly staple in our house! It has inspired me to go rock hunting with my fiancé. I am in Pittsburgh, where would you suggest a good spot near us to go hunt?
I have never been to Pittsburg and have done almost all of my rock hunting in Michigan, so I can’t help you with rock hunting locations near you.
Nice find 👍
Wow! Way to go! Have fun!
Absolutely fascinating discussion on Mineral replacement. Never knew such could happen. That was a very big agate. I would go nuts on your beaches because I would bring all the Rocks back to florida! They are so beautiful! Have a blessed day and a merry Christmas.
You wouldn’t get very good gas mileage on the way home, I guess.
@@MichiganRocks lol. Funny you say that, bc my father loved rocks, & he would load chunks of granite into a '69 Pontiac Bonneville trunk. It was a lot of added weight. We would landscape w/those boulders. He knew how to split them safely as opposed to my method.
@@salliemorrill2671 My first car was a '79 Bonneville. I bought it from my parents. Six people could ride comfortably in that car. Not cool, but I sure could haul some friends around.
Super man of agates nice find ✌️ I just purchased a rock saw so been having fun . Found a few agates and a rock with copper in it . Fun stuff good luck on your next hunt ✌️
Be careful cutting rocks with copper. A copper rock was one of the only rocks that has jammed my slab saw. Copper seems to be too soft to cut with a diamond blade. The blade just sort of smears the copper rather than grinding through it.
@@MichiganRocks It was a very small speck either copper or gold my guess is copper ✌️ Thanks for the knowledge I thought about cutting some copper 👊 Not now . Have a great night and an even better tomorrow . ✌️
Copper is a very soft and “chewy” metal. It can be tricky to drill, saw or machine. Your tools will want to grab into it !
@@davidhile5363 That's a good way to put it.

That sounds nice. I love gardening too. I have been working on redoing a sunny garden in the front yard this summer. It's coming along nicely.
Awesome scenery. Pretty cool agate. If that large one isn’t from Michigan where is it from or how did it get here? While I always loved looking at rocks I never had any formal education about them. I really am enjoying your exploration.
