The cruel prince is so good and even if you end up not really liking it, the second book makes it worth it. also the enemies to lovers trope is done so well i wanna cry
The Poppy War is fairly recently popular and is still coming out (last book comes out late 2020) and honestly I understand not wanting to add books to a long TBR but it is easily one of the best adult fantasy out there right now / that I've read
I loved the criticism on Sarah J Maas! I highly disliked the Inner Circle and loved the "evil sister", (who isnt really evil, she's just depressed and bitchy about it) and the amount of people that tried to come for me because of it is astounding
Although, I loved the inner circle, I do agree about the Nesta thing! Honestly, the whole way Feyre dealed with Nesta (by trying to push her into things that helped Feyre) was just wrong and it made me hate her character so much.
I usually give SJM's books high rating because they are entering. I'm one of those people that if I can read a 500 paged book in a day it deserves a good rating. But I do agree with most of the criticism she receives for ger writing. In the throne of glass series I spend the whole time hating on Aelin because I think she is very arrogant. But I did enjoy quite a few of the side characters. My favourite SJM book is Tower of Down because I think it was so well thought out and the writing was much better than what she has in the rest of her books. I think the best aspects of it was that it didn't try to do too many things at the same time.
Quick word about scythe: It is a very theme/ plot driven series. You may not feel very attached to the characters, but if you look at the overall events and themes discussed throughout the books, it is actually solid. Hit a bit of a slump somewhere towards the end of Thunderhead(2nd book), but the ending of the toll really brings everything together in an unexpected way. I'm glad that I stuck with it.
I read the cruel prince last month after thinking I wouldn't enjoy the faye aspect but it is such a good book, and I can't stop thinking about it! Worth a try I would say 😊
2:36 same, except the six of crows duology ARE my favorite books of all time! So glad u love Leigh Bardugo as much as me! Wasn’t in love with the grisha trilogy, but I still love her books. Alina and Mal annoyed me, but I loved the other characters in the books. I have yet to read king of scars, but I have it on my book shelf so I’m really excited! I’m gonna wait till I’m older to read ninth house I think, it’s not that I won’t be able to handle it but I feel like I will appreciate it more if I read it when I’m 18. I’m turning 16 soon soooo 2 years shouldn’t be too bad 😢
I feel like you'd probably have some strong feelings about certain characters from The Cruel Prince, and I'm not entirely sure if they will be positive 😂 Strange the Dreamer is gorgeous, such amazing writing ❤️
You know, I think you would enjoy They Both Die At the End by Adam Silvera (but not right now. because it's tragic) mainly becuase of the way that the worldbuilding plays out. He really ran with a fascinating concept (people being aware they were going to die on the last day of their lives) and played with how that would affect the culture, what economic and social changes would occur, and even questions the idea that some people would die BECAUSE they knew they were going to die. I wouldn't read it now because, well, WAY TOO SAD, but knowing how you feel about worldbuilding and creating an interesting setting, you might find it fascinating.
Hmmm... May I ask why? I haven't read vengeful yet but I'm quite excited to. Was it bad? Did it ruin the characters or the world or was it just boring or stuff?
Mint I feel the same way. The ending of the first book was completely satisfactory, and the new characters seemed less real and a bit unnecessary to me
@@the_bob_147 It's been quite some time since I read it, so I don't exactly remember all reasons I disliked it... But there were a lot of new characters introduced and I just couldn't get myself to care about them. The new main character wasn't really the kind of person I like to read about, maybe because I'm too young and can't really relate to marriage problems, etc. I feel like the way Eli and Viktor's relationship left off in the first book was perfect. The second book ruined the mystery they had to them in some way, and Viktor was portrayed kind of strangely... It ruined the perception I had of him which I cherished so much. The sequel didn't add anything special and didn't provide anything new.
@@dontmintme oh damn. I'm still gonna read it because I love schwab far too much not to but oh God I love Victor so much I hope it isn't going to ruin him for me too. Thank you.
1. I think you’ll love the wayward children reasons because - they’re very quick, each book focuses on different character from the first book... it’s dark and weird and whimsical 2. Scythe was good ... it was the first book/series I read this year after not reading at all for some years. Love the theme, characters, everything! The first one was my fav!
Very interesting video! 👍 I very much sympathize with the reasons you love the Grisha Trilogy, they have a special place in my heart too even though they are not extraordinary.
Wayward Children is my favorite fantasy ever and I definitely think you'll like it. Every novella focuses on a different character in a different fantasy world (sometimes multiple) so every reader has something to latch on to. They're so short that I'd say try the first one and see. Since you struggle with series, these might be good since they exist in the same universe but aren't a continuous plot to follow
The Poppy War is a fantastic book - it’s an adult fantasy inspired by the Sino-Japanese war. It has really cool elements related to shamanism and spiritualism. I think you’d enjoy it :)
Wow your analysis of sarah j maas....ITS PERFECT. I really enjoyed the ACOTAR series and the forced liking works for me lmao...but that's also what made me stop reading Throne of Glass. It is for me what Shadow and Bone is for you - first entrance to high fantasy. I was blown away with the first books and then they just got too "forced" as you put it, the characters lost their original charms and integrity...I cant go along with the narratives 😅
VE Schwab is currently my favorite writer too. No other author has made me fall in love with the characters like she did and her world building & character's interactions are always the best part of her books.
It's so funny what you said about SJM. That's how I've always felt about her writing too, that she is almost pushy about who you're supposed to like and not like. She tells readers how to feel with her writing and it bothers me so much.
I think you would like the overall story arc of the cruel prince trilogy (I know that's not what the trilogy is officially called). It has a good hate to love romance that is slow in it's execution, if not in the readers' awareness that it's going to happen. And I think it has sort of those morally grey, troubled/trauma characters that I think you might appreciate, BUT - I think you need to finish the whole trilogy and not just leave it after the first book lol, which maybe won't happen for you? I would say it is a really well done YA fantasy that definitely has the elusive "YA feel", but is still dark and enjoyable. I also think you would like The Poppy War - again, it's rather dark but not upfront. It gets much darker and grittier as the story and main character develops. And it deals with some exploration of life/humanity etc that I think you would appreciate.
I had never heard of the Bone Witch trilogy till recently either. I finished it in a week. The first one is slow going but honestly, the entire trilogy is magical. The relationships and just how everything plays out in the end is really well done. I highly recommend it!
Completely agree with you of Crown of Midnight! I gave it 5 stars too but then Heir of Fire and Queen of Shadows happened and I was like.... no... I don't like where this is going... no thank you.... never finished the series, don't think I ever will (although I really liked Manon's character, so maybe I'll finish the series just to see the development of her story).
I just happened to stumble across your channel and went through 3 videos one with the book shelf tour, the other with the low rate book read , and this one....... I simply subscribed because I think you are beautiful. Bye.
I'm a sucker for enemies to lovers plots as well and even if The Cruel Prince and its sequels are not my favorite books of all time, I had a really good time reading them (more like binge reading them ...). They're quite ""original"" (as far as these kind of story lines/tropes go), with a lot of plot twists I felt very strongly about while reading them (in a good way). It's frustrating (again, in a good way), it's sometimes cute and hot ... I think you really should try the trilogy!
I haven't read the wayward children series but if you want to jump into Seanan Mcguire i honestly say just read Middlegame. It was a super cool dark fantasy ish thing that i read in like two or three days. highly recommend!
yea i agree with that assessment of the throne of glass series, I read it as it was coming out and i looved the first 2 books and was okay with book 3. But after that point the story kinda stopped being the story i thought it was going to be (if that makes sense) and it stopped being the story i loved. I hold the fond memories of reading first 2 books at least! They did things that at the time i hadnt encountered much in the books i was reading at the time
I agree with you about the Sarah J Maas writing style thing. But I never thought that it was controlling but now that I think about it the word definitely fits. However, that being said, I love love love her books
I always enjoy your content 💖 as a frame of reference, I have read 0 books on that list. To finish or Not finish a series, that is the question. The commitment can be daunting, both in pages read & in time waiting for the next installment. Sometimes I know going in that I'm not going to see it through - like Dune (8 books total), I'm fine with just 1. I have more unfinished (& no intention of finishing) series, than I have series that I have completed. but I've completed some journeys - like the Burke series by Andrew Vachss (18 books) sorry, isolation makes me ramble.
I actually just got done reading The Cruel Prince for the first time a couple days ago and I know that so many people on bookstagram and booktube love this book and the series as a whole but it just wasn’t for me. I normally like dark books and can handle dark themes but there were so many things in this book that I just did not enjoy. I would encourage you to still read it just for the experience and to see if you like it! I think I will continue on with the series just to see how everything progresses but it was a 2.5/3 star read for me personally 🤷🏻♀️ But I hope you like it and enjoy it! ☺️
Wayward Children are good quick reads, they are good to read when in a reading slump. They take the Alice through the looking glass on steroids, fun reads. 👍
I agree with so many points in this video. I personally don't feel connected to Sarah j mass writing too, and I think you will like Cruel prince series, it has amazing world and characters in it. You should give it a try. Though some of the books are in my TBR pile for 2020.
What you said about throne of glass series is exactly how I feel I loved crown of midnight but then I read heir of fire and didn’t like where the story is going + till this day queen of shadows is sitting on my shelves waiting for me to complete reading it but I don’t think it’s happening.
My guess from all that I've heard about it is that there are some things about The Cruel Prince you will like - there are some tropes in there you tend to enjoy - but there are also some things I think will really grind your gears, lol You know what, if you decide to read it, I will pick it up too! Because of some of the reviews it got back when it came out I decided not to, but I've heard so much about it since then I'm honestly pretty curious at this point :b
Please read Infernal devices series by Cassandra Clare.. I think you might like that. Its one of my favourite series.. I really hope that you could read that. ❤️
Can totally relate to having difficulty in finishing series. I read Cinder and then slowly collected the other books in the series. And then they sat on my bookshelf for far too long until I finally admitted I wasn't going to finish the series and took them to Half-Price Books last November. If I do find my interest perking again, my library has them in both physical and ebook formats. Illuminae was an interesting read, but I had no desire to read the other two books (which I've heard aren't quite as good as the first). The Poppy War was an EXHAUSTING read to say the least. Grim fantasy isn't a subgenre that I gravitate towards, so I don't think I'll be finishing the trilogy.
So many books and writers on this list that I didn’t read! I did read the Illuminae files and I think they’re really hard to get into because of the format. And all three books have basically the same build-up and the characters are all the same. A bit like how I feel about John Green books 😜 I read the first three of the Mortal Instruments and tried the Infernal Devices but it’s not for me. Scythe is still on my list!
I gave the same exact ratings on the Throne of Glass books you mentioned. I absolutely LOVED crown of midnight which is why I know you wouldn't have enjoyed Queen of Shadows so it was a good decision to stop there.
Honestly surprised you didn't mention Cassandra Clare cause her books are everywhere [and very few of the books ive been reading are from booktube but lunar chronicles and cassandra clare are one of them | I read throne of glass and a court of thorns and roses but never continued either series]
I love the love to hate trope, but for some reason, I didn't care too much for The Cruel Prince, I'm not even sure why, I didn't hate it , but I didn't love it either. As for the Grisha trilogy, I didn't love it as much when I first read it as I do now (which is ironic because, with most books I have the opposite happen, I might somewhat enjoy them when I'm reading them but as time passes I kind of forget about them). However, for some reason, I still have incredibly strong feelings about the Grisha Trilogy and I think the more I read other crapy fantasy novels the more I appreciate Leigh's writing, the incredible world she built, and her complex characters (well mainly the Darkling). PS: Six of Crows is the best!
Well, I was team Warner until I read the last book and became absolutely disappointed with the Shatter Me series. I swear I didn't even know there were new books 😂 Yes, it is an enemies to love story, but it is not handled well, at least in my opinion. All of Warner's characterization is thrown out of the window to make him more likable as a love interest.
I agree about Sara J Maas's Tog I really loved Chaol and Caelina in Crown of Midnight and after that in Heir of Fire it was so obvious that Sara J Maas doesn't like Chaol and she completely isolated his storyline and didn't give Caelina and Chaol a chance
tbh from what i've heard i'm leaving vicious as a standalone, same with this savage song!! i loveeed strange the dreamer so much, it's a slow start but incredible overall!!
I didn't wanted to read Scythe because i didn't like the idea of the two protagonist dateing (i need to find some books without romance) and i was afraid that it would be too much sci-fi which i hate. But the first book was actually good. I just don't think that it needed another two books.
Shatter me was boring because the writing was overly slam poetry like, the characters are bland, the world building is cheap and it just doesn't make sense. I have finished it today so my feeling are still strong hahaha
Tired to listen to the audio books and was so confused 2 minutes in. I couldn't figure out which book came first and abandoned ship quicker than I got on😂😅
if you liked Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children then you'll like the Wayward Children series. I, personally, didn't like either but Every Heart a Doorway was better than the first in Miss Peregrine's in my opinion.
I don't think Vengeful was as good as Vicious, but I do think that it enhances the reading experience of Vicious, because you get other sides to some of the characters. Also I love enemies to lovers but I didn't like the Cruel Prince lol
I have so many problems with The Cruel Prince. The enemies to lovers trope was non existent really. I literally picked it up for the trope. I just tried to ignore it but I didn't like the other aspects of the story too. Not my thing. Yeah.
Love this video so much! Will be filming my own version tomorrow and can't wait to give my opinion hehe Also, will be giving you a big hug once this whole crisis is over and we can see eachother again :D :D :D
Well since you don't like to finish series Strange the Dreamer would be good. The book was amazing and has such lyrical writing. I can't say much on The cruel prince I couldn't finish it did not like the story or writing style.
Heeeey!! Yeey fellow Dutchies for the win
I personally only got through about 100 pages of Cruel Prince before DNFing it, because I couldn't stand both the main character and the writing style (which i thought was quite... simple? Not sure what the best word for it is, but it really got on my nerves)
Ok its ok I am going to take a deep breath and watch this video and hopefully you won't make me ridiculously angry. I just watched one of you other videos, and so far trust your opinion, I just really hope you don't hate on any books I love. I watched a tier ranking video a while back where someone put the Throne of Glass in the trash trash section and I seriously was fuming about that for ages.
I read the first book in folk of the air series 'the cruel prince' i didn't like it. Someone told me to read the rest of the series, i did and i still didn't like it. There's more things i disliked about it as compared to what i liked about it so i wont get into the essay but yea it was one of the most frustrating books i've ever read.
i don't think you'll like the cruel prince! I just read it myself and I only gave it 3 stars, which is not much for me. And i feel like alle your favorite books are books I love as well. There is indeed a hate to love romance, but honestly it bothers me a lot since the relationship is very toxic. Normally I'm a sucker for Hate to Love trope but this one just doesn't do it for me.
I always feel like I have an unpopular opinion when it comes to this book, but I'm one of the people who read The Cruel Prince and gave it a 1 star rating. I hated it. I was so _disappointed_ in the execution of the story. The blurb sounded amazing but it didn't deliver at *all* . To me it felt like a draft of a middle grade book instead of YA, and the 'darkness' it was meant to contain was really underwhelming. Basically it was sold to me as an entirely different story from the one I read. It's one of only two books I've ever actually felt angry I wasted time reading. I never recommend it to anyone. But I mean, apparently it's just me and like seven other people who feel this way 😂 If you do read it I hope you like it more than I did 👍
The cruel prince is so good and even if you end up not really liking it, the second book makes it worth it. also the enemies to lovers trope is done so well i wanna cry
Yeah but the final book is not really that good I honestly didn’t like it
YESSSS
I honestly don’t think you’ll like The Cruel Prince, but the second one is the one that will do the trick! Trust me, The Wicked King is ^chef kiss^
Iving Zuniga i felt the same! I felt that the cruel prince was Kind of childish fantasy, BUT then i read wicked king!
Elias Borgan but she does like Enemies to lovers. Also wicked king was so good that I didn’t know it was going to be a Trilogy
Delaney Rose same
The Poppy War is fairly recently popular and is still coming out (last book comes out late 2020) and honestly I understand not wanting to add books to a long TBR but it is easily one of the best adult fantasy out there right now / that I've read

"I almost forgot what hugging feels like" oh no... that hit me right in the feels :(
You HAVE to read A conjuring of light!! I finished the series today actually, and I CRIED MY EYES OUT
Thank goodness someone else admits they cried finishing this series! Lol.
it was great i loved it but found no scene worthy of shedding real tears tho.
Quick word about scythe: It is a very theme/ plot driven series. you totally should read scythe. it's SO SO good
I read the cruel prince last month after thinking I wouldn't enjoy the faye aspect but it is such a good book, and I can't stop thinking about it! Worth a try I would say 😊
Brooke's Books same I read it a few weeks ago and absolutely loved it
I like that the faeries are cruel and scary. It is really refreshing and it reminds me of Grimms fairytale
2:36 same, except the six of crows duology ARE my favorite books of all time! So glad u love Leigh Bardugo as much as me! Wasn’t in love with the grisha trilogy, but I still love her books. okay wait not wanting to start Shatter Me because it's six books long is... too relatable

i know this is a really late comment, but i think you'd love the cruel prince series! it's one of my faves :)
The way you described Sarah J maas's writing was so funny and so true!
strange the dreamer was also amazing. i'm currently reading the second book and it's even better than the first!
I saw the lunar chronicles and gasped with JOY
i LOVED the vengeful, the second book. You should give it a chance!

sorry, isolation makes me ramble.
Try to listen to the audiobook for Illuminae, I think you would enjoy the story :)
I think you would like illuminae.. xD i also thought i wouldn't like because of the files but it is pretty cool
Adam Silvera easily became one of my favorite authors. I love They Both Die at the End so much 😭💔
My guess from all that I've heard about it is that there are some things about The Cruel Prince you will like - there are some tropes in there you tend to enjoy - but there are also some things I think will really grind your gears, lol
You know what, if you decide to read it, I will pick it up too! Because of some of the reviews it got back when it came out I decided not to, but I've heard so much about it since then I'm honestly pretty curious at this point :b
You should it is good
Yaay new video
I totaly agree with you about Sarah J Mass
The book hug--comes in handy! :D
Please read cruel prince!!! I would like to hear your opinions
Vicious! Yes! Was my first VE book and I enjoyed it a ton. Vengeful isn’t as good as Vicious but it’s still good. I’d go for it if I were you.
I did mention Cassandra Clare!
@@TheBookLeo oh yeah oops sorry about that lol
My advice is to read queen of shadows and take that as the ending. That's it.
Scythe should be high on your priority list
I agree about Sara J Maas's Tog I really loved Chaol and Caelina in Crown of Midnight and after that in Heir of Fire it was so obvious that Sara J Maas doesn't like Chaol and she completely isolated his storyline and didn't give Caelina and Chaol a chance
tbh from what i've heard i'm leaving vicious as a standalone, same with this savage song!!
i loveeed strange the dreamer so much, it's a slow start but incredible overall!!
hey my fave is back!🥰
you should read vengeful i really liked it :)
I couldn't figure out which book came first and abandoned ship quicker than I got on😂😅
@@Emma-sj6wp good that you did hahaha, cause it is a shipwreck
@@Alignment22 The guy who recommend it to me ended up not being a nice person so i feel like I dodged two bullets lol
Honestly I really didn't like throne of glass but I absolutely adored the acotor series
READ THE INFERNAL DEVICES BY CASSANDRA CLARE. ITS AMAZING!! A million times better than the mortal instruments series
if you liked Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children then you'll like the Wayward Children series. I, personally, didn't like either but Every Heart a Doorway was better than the first in Miss Peregrine's in my opinion.
OMG I am always so excited when I see a new video of urs coming out lol. Also are u going to do any other booktube meetings this month?
I don't think Vengeful was as good as Vicious, but I do think that it enhances the reading experience of Vicious, because you get other sides to some of the characters. Also I love enemies to lovers but I didn't like the Cruel Prince lol
Guys what is the trilogy she's talking about in 3:40, pleaaaase?
It's the Grisha trilogy by Leigh Bardugo.
I have so many problems with The Cruel Prince. The enemies to lovers trope was non existent really. I literally picked it up for the trope. I just tried to ignore it but I didn't like the other aspects of the story too. Not my thing. Yeah.
Love this video so much! Will be filming my own version tomorrow and can't wait to give my opinion hehe
Also, will be giving you a big hug once this whole crisis is over and we can see eachother again :D :D :D
Well since you don't like to finish series Strange the Dreamer would be good. The book was amazing and has such lyrical writing. I can't say much on The cruel prince I couldn't finish it did not like the story or writing style.
Awesome. Thanks for sharing!
Heeeey!! Yeey fellow Dutchies for the win
yay voor dutchies! en nee ik ben geen leeuw, de 'leo' in mn naam is voor 'leonie'
The Book Leo Ooh! That makes sense 😂. Mooie naam ☺️. Ik ben gesubscribed!! Ik ben benieuwd naar je content. Keep up the good work 💪
I personally only got through about 100 pages of Cruel Prince before DNFing it, because I couldn't stand both the main character and the writing style (which i thought was quite...
You should read cruel prince.
Has anyone read the Raksura series!? They're my favorite books and I feel like I'm the only person that's read them?
I read the first book in folk of the air series 'the cruel prince' i didn't like it. Someone told me to read the rest of the series, i did and i still didn't like it. There's more things i disliked about it as compared to what i liked about it so i wont get into the essay but yea it was one of the most frustrating books i've ever read.
i think the cruel prince triology was a 3 and a half/ 4 star read. it was good, but not as amazing as people made it sound to be
READ THE SCYTHE TRILOGY!!!
i don't think you'll like the cruel prince!
But I mean, apparently it's just me and like seven other people who feel this way 😂 If you do read it I hope you like it more than I did 👍
I think you would like some aspects of the Cruel Prince but overall not like it.
Illuminae is best as a audiobook.
Finally someone said it about the Illuminae series! I just can’t vibe with the format at all
