Such pretty little fish. But it's your planted tank, so green and healthy that really catches my eye
We're planning to get this fish in the next few weeks and this is one of the better videos I've seen of them. I love your jungle tank too!
Awesome, you're gonna love these fish! Thanks for watching and your kind words. Cheers
Did you get them Moss Aquascapes ?
@@Mami-nw5dn I'm planning to have them as well. Right now I have the Pseudomugil luminatus :)
Great video, pretty fish and ridiculously beautiful tank.
Beautiful fish/ great video! I love your comments about how the females just watch. I have 2 female gouramis that do this "sizing up" constantly and my male would just watch. They've been doing it for months and months, glad they don't hurt one another, and it's interesting to watch
Interesting! Each species...let alone each tank and each fish have such unique behaviors.
L🎉Ok
I've got eight of these in my heavily planted 55 gallon. At the moment they are tiny. Can't wait for them to grow into adults.
Beautiful tank! I love watching behavior in animals!
thank you, i sit and watch it until i see my pheonix rasboras, or pygmy zebra loaches
Beautiful and colorful aquarium. So lush. The fish are perfect for that aquarium.
I actually think these fish are gorgeous!
Me too! Im glad im not alone.
Getting these soon......dying of excitement!
Congrats
Great video. Love going thru your older content. Thank you for sharing! - Little Bobby
I truly appreciate you going back and watch them. Have a wonderful week my friend
Awesome video and very beautiful male Spotted Blue-eyes! Thanks so much for sharing 😀
Just got some of these at my favorite LFS. Thanks for the video!
Right on! They're great little fish
Beautiful fish and the tank looks amazing !
Really nice and lush planted !
Love the jungle style ! 🌱🐠✌🏼️
ironically the tank started as Iwagumi then iwagumi with 2 rows of Dutch style background stems....annnd now its my rare and or tiny /nano show tank
The Secret History Living in Your Aquarium I remember the excellent video you made
aquascaping this tank with the stone explaining the Fibonacci sequence and rule of thirds.
It is a great video ! I am more a fan of the jungle style oppose to iwagumi.
Hope you are doing well ! 🌱🐠✌🏼️
Stunning looking fish
Gorgeous jungle tank and gorgeous fish, checked your channel out, so many good vids! Love seeing in depth content coupled with beautiful tanks. Subscribed!
Thank you so very much! It means a great deal to me, to read your comment.
Also, i just wanted to Officially welcome you to the channel, and invite you to watch any of the 900+ videos I've made hehe. Thanks again, Alex
Informative vid. A Rainbow I don't have, yet. Thanks Alex
nano rainbows! perhaps ill get better at this and ship you some eggs
cool
Another rainbow like this is the red neon rainbow or pseudomugil paskai :0
Yes, the luminatus is it's new official name...so beautiful
@@Fishtory you should totes get it.
Great vid! Hi from Singapore!
Hey, thanks!
Stunning
Thanks. I love watching them too
Beautiful tank
Why thank you
Hi Alexander. Yesterday I saw a video by Chrislukhaup of Pseudomugil in the wild. there were no plants but crystal clear water. The males claimed really huge territories. Check his channel, probably the best underwater filmer!
Yes! The Aru Island Psuedomugil variants (According to Whym Hoff and Gary Lange they could arguably be a different species all together, since they live in very small streams or ponds in much more rain-fed/volcanic rock low TDS waters and do not have nearly as many predators.)
As for Chris, I love his work and books via dernel. Check out his forerunner/peer, Ivan Mikolji ...check his filming from the last 10 years. So beautiful, although the indigenous music is super repetitive haha. Im hoping to meet Chris when he is in Seattle later this month.
I like Mikolji very much.
i couldnt find it again either...it may be on rainbow fish in general, or PNG/Indonesia. These fish have a 5,000 mile range from northern Papua to southern Australia...lots of varieties in color and habitat
Really lovely
Thank you
nice tank brother
I have a new favorite nano fish haha they're so neat
They are very awesome...and so overlooked sadly
@@Fishtory my local fish store has them, i'll definitely try a breeding trio next chance i get. my planted 20 long is currently overrun by green lantern platys lol.
i've heard of people keeping these guys with a betta, what are your thoughts on that? I breed bettas so every tank i have has one in it lol. what i've seen its been in tanks larger than 20 gallons tho.
This tank is so beautiful
Thank you for viewing!
My pleasure! Your videos are amazing
Beautifu tank alex. Thx for the lesson
Thank YOU for stopping by Miss Didi!
Hey! Love the channel, been following for a while
I'm working on redoing my billabong biotope tank and was wondering if you have had any issues with an open top as I'd love to have vegetation breaking the top of the tank
They do evaporate a lot of water.... 5 to 10% every week or so depending on the temperature, but i too enjoy that look and style... and the pseudomogils will jump if startled, so i usually just keep it 2jnches or 6 to 7 cm lower and than the rim, and that stops 99% of jumps
@@Fishtoryawesome! Thanks for the info!
nice fish
Many many thanks
I didn’t know you can clickbait with the thumb picture as well! Nice idea!...
Just bought some luminatus and I can't wait to spawn them.
Right on! Ill be doing the same with mine soon too :)
A blue eye is not a rainbowfish, they are from different families. :-) Awesome video!
All the Blue eyed psuedomugil just get grouped with rainbowfish for some odd reason (just locally speaking, but yeah, I don't know why- since my understanding is that they are closer to a killifish style genus.)
@@Fishtory Some in the aquarium industry started calling blue eyes rainbowfishes to give them better recognition as being from Australia / New Guinea (I'm guessing). They are closely related families, but many aspects of their breeding and biology are quite different to each other.
What?! The common name of a fish is not taxonomically accurate?! Alert the media!!!
Pseudomugil are so cool
Agreed
You have got a really nice aquarium. Do You think that Pseudomogil Gertrudae can be in the same aquarium with corydoras and shrimps?
Yeah pseudomogils will sometime eat the stray baby shrimp whike under 2 months old, but with enough hiding places, even that can be avoided
Hi Alex can they live with with 9 black skirt tetra, bristlenose and 5 corys?,love your videos.😊
Should be fine. And also, thanks for tuning in and stopping by!
Thank you!
Nice setup good review. These are beautiful fish and are really interesting. I think they will become really popular in the future. How long have they been in the hobby ?
off and on since the 1970s, but more so since the 2000s when aquascaping and natural or more subdued fish of a smaller size, became more common
Do you still have this aquarium? It looks insanely nice!
Indeed. Most the fish are long gone from old age due to being nano species, but the tanks kickin
@@Fishtory
I am getting Psuedomugil Gertrude Aru II later this week. I saw how much they were going for 😂
14,56 US dollars at the store. For ONE! 🤣
For me, that's a money glitch
thanks for the interesting videos! edit thanks for the heart
Thanks for watching and chatting!
Would these fish be okay with larger rainbows like boesemanis? I also have a few pearl gouramis but they are quite calm.
Yea they can manage If there's lots of plants at the surface or floating. If it's wide open, they get into little chases and skirmishes but nothing major
OMG, I love how you think! Not even 1:20 in and you gift us with not one, but TWO musical fight references! Also my Bosemani female and male Madagascar rainbowfish Have started a star crossed affair, to both their respective species groups chagrin! Ima HAVE to call them Maria and Tony. Thanks, man!!
thanks for the info , any of those gys good for cooler water? like 21c
Yeah they'll be fine around 20.5+
DO you need a lid for these guys? are they jumpers?
They are if in a community tank...or if you vacuum or play loud music ...basically they're okay if it's quiet and planted tanks...but if not, they can startle very easy, yes
Hey Alex, I was considering getting a school of 6 of them, but then I realized that I have a dwarf powder blue gourami in my 40 breeder. Do you think they would fair well with the gourami? I’m currently in the process of growing out the plants in my aquarium so they would have plenty of places to spawn eventually. I’ve got neon tetras and Buenos Aires tetras in the tank as well
Hey Alex,
Do these fish need to have a high Kh to do well? I would like to put some shrimp with them but I am concerned about the high kh level with shrimp? Any recommendations?
They can live with neocaridina: ) those parameters work out fine.
Can i keep them with neon tetras and rasboras?
Throw in the Micheal Jaskon beat it song For the 2 males fighting
100٪
Can I put them with dwarf gourami?
I know this is an old video, but what exactly kind of ‘mop’ are you using?
Acrylic yarn that's dark green and has 50 strands tied in the center (so 100 fibers for them to swim into)
Could I put them in a 55 g community tank with a betta? The only other schooling fish may possibly be strawberry rasboras. It's planted
Sure!
@@Fishtory Thanks!
I love this fish! I’m from italy and i’ m searching for eggs to start to breed them!
You should! Best of luck to you. A beautiful species
@@Fishtory hi ! Do you have eggs ?
How long do they live? I have them but I keep reading conflicting information
You have a filter, an fully planted tank but still need to do weekly water changes of 50%?
You don't need to.... but they color up better and are more active if you do
beautiful fish what is the smallest tank you would reccoment for these
I know its been a year, but for anyone who still likes to know. He mentions that you can put 4 to 6 in a 5 gallon/20L tank. I wouldn't get less than 4 of them, but that's personal
I agree ideally. In the wild you see them by the thousands and shoaling in groups of 50 to 300.
Why would they lay eggs on the mop instead of all those beautiful plants?
I don't know why lol. For some reason they like it slightly more than my love plants though
Hey ik this is an old video but could I fit some of these guys in a 10 gal?
I'd like to know this too, if someone has an answer! :)
Yes he says in the video, tanks size of 5gal or 10gal 4 or 6 u can do rewatch the video 💚😊
Do you have some for sale?
Not at the moment unfortunately. Sorry
I love this tank so much! Could you tell me the plant species, at 3:14, in the center nook of the driftwood, and it has kind of lobed leaves?
Thank you! bucephalandra brownie ghost and then anubias petit nana are the two possibilities i believe
@@Fishtory actually I think its a pellia, haha, for better clarity, the lobe of the leaf overlaps on the nerite, thanks much for the response
@@metrikal1 bolbitus fern (african water fern)...just young :)
@@Fishtory yes that's it! I really appreciate the trouble, thx a bunch
no worries...enjoy! if you get it, it will most likely "melt" or have leaves fall off, but simply secure the roots to a stone or wood and put it in an area with a bit of water current and flow....and theyll spring back within a month or two and form their underearer look
How many gallons is this tank?
20
How big is your tank? in litres maybe?
17.5 gallon ... so 65 liters or so?
How many m to f?
2f to m
Arent these fish extremely hardy? I heard reports about them being found in a ph of 4.9 to 9+ and temps between 12-32°C?
With ph and salinity they are very very hearty
@@Fishtory and temperature?
@@StagnantMizu less so... but still better than most 72-86 usually...some live in 65...but those strains dont handle the 80s well...and visa versa
how can I get these from Gary?
aquabid every once and a while, or MASI auctions in the midwest
Awesome footage of the fish in duel 😁 I'm a big fan of varied fish but for a breeding project I'm having lots of fun with platys fish. Check out some of my platys if u like I'm working on creating complex colors and loads of things. If anything I really like the work you do and the info u put up can't wait to see how things grow 🐡 thanks and have a great day🐢
thank you! I have a group or those sword tail platties and im playing with the hybrid mix
@@Fishtory very cool stuff
What’s the black and white fish towards the left of the screen at 4:36?
Panda loaches?
@@Fishtory they’re so small! Been looking for a nano loach. Any other recommendations?
@@Fishtory I see you did state the list of tank inhabitants
@@ofbguppies2325 also I'd look into multibarred dwarf loaches... they're under 2 inches and really kinda pretty. Also batik loaches, rosey loaches, kuhli loaches, lake inle loach ...all peaceful and easy
@@Fishtory thank you very much, about to google and at to the List
Bruh I want 4 for a ten to go with my alien betta
Nice. That would be a cool mix
Lol you have an awful lot of gen x references for a millennial...
Beautiful fish. Really incredible colours and shapes on the males.
Well im an old soul I suppose... i mean "millennial" starts in 1982
@@Fishtory those were actually my wife's words, but I had to pass them on. We're both 49. I theorized that you probably had friends older than you growing up, but maybe all the trivia games.
@@Mattypantaloons well my wife is 10 years older, and yes- my friends were nearly all older by 5 to 6 years growing up
any for sale? Lol
Not at the moment sorry
To all of those folks saying "Blue-Eyes aren't true rainbowfish!!!"
According to our Lord and Savior, Wikipedia; Pseudomugilinae (the Subfamily known as The Blue-Eyes), is a classification of the family Melanotaeniidae (rainbowfishes).
