97 Honda XR100 with 120 big bore kit Walk around and Wheelies in the Snow

- Walk around of my 1997 xr100 with the Tb Parts 120 kit. The bike started smoking from not cleaning the air filter often enough. Let some dirt down into the rings and started smoking more than my 2 stroke. Only cost $168 for the kit and it comes with everything you need including gaskets. Pretty easy install only took about an afternoon following the manual step by step. A few things I left out in the video are the Rox bar risers which are super trick and the Protaper CR high bend bars and pillow top grips. And how could I forget the Gold chain.
These are fun bikes to rip around my childhood girlfriend and her younger brother had matching 99 Honda Xr100's and I had my 74 Yamaha Dt175 we rode all day everyday when they were at our house they had their bikes when we were at their house I had my bike when they moved to Tennessee I picked up a Honda 200s to ride when I was at their house
I had that weird carb problem. I have a stock 91 xr100r. It was running odd one day so I took the carb off and cleaned it. No matter what I did I couldn’t get it to start after that. I bought a new carb and now it runs perfectly
For some reason, I always have to clean a carb twice to get it to work good with my XR100R. Cleaning and then gas flowing throwing it loosens up more crap for the tiny piolet holes.
Id say just something got into the jets or something
I have video of me rebuilding it if anyone wants to see it. Just let me know and I'll upload it and maybe even try to commentate over it about why I'm doing what
I’d like to see it
Looks great! My wife loved her XR100. It is the perfect size.
Had a 96 xr 80 then got a 97 100 stayed with the XR line now with the 05 XR 400r. Would love to find me another one of these with the 120 bore kit just a blast to ride, wheelies for days
I'm a long time XR lover. I've had a few 90s xr100s, an 01 xr200, 83 and 84 xr350, 81 XL500 and dad has a 94 xr600. Only missing an xr250, xr400 and an xr650 to round out my collection of iconic honda trail machines. Running out of garage space though lol
Somebody is selling one for 900.
Looks decent condition. Not bad at all.
Looks like the older model, dont know exact year yet. (Has those white shields in front of handle bars.)
So ...900... should i buy if it runs good?
900 is a little less than market value around me. If it starts easy and runs good, I'd buy it. If it's smoking I'd talk them down as much as possible and just run it
Can these be made street legal?
I want to make my XR100 street legal too but I don't think it will keep up to speed to high speed road/highways.
I have an XR100
yes you could but it can’t keep up on the high ways it only does 47mph
Zach Baxter I remember you this is Gary Burbank been a while bro
What gearing you have I have similar setup
Where did you find the big bore kit
Pretty sure I bought it on ebay. But I know awhile back when I looked again I couldn't find them. Maybe try XR's only. Com. If they don't have them I'm pretty sure BBR still makes their BBK which mine is just a knock off of that one
What is the size of the two bolts on the cylinder I got the same kit but oil leaks from the two holes?
My cylinder came with those bolts. Don't remember what size but it's for an oil cooler if you ever wanted to add one. Prob a common metric size like m12 or m14
Do you know what one is the output (hot oil from pump) i wanna set one up but dont know the modifications that are necessary for the block to flow properly(i have a tb120) im mechanically inclined i can fab it on there i just was curious if anyone knows what direction they should flow in
Is the valve clearance numbers the same after the kit?
How does the bike run now ? Still run good with that kit?
Still runs good but it's been sitting for like a year after the kickstart shaft broke. My buddy wasnt very familiar with bikes and kicked it weird a few times and with the extra compression it broke the shaft internal somewhere. Gonna be a case split kinda deal, been looking for amother good bottom end to swap the 120 kit onto
What triple clamp do you have on the XR?
Stock ones with a nice set of Rox bar risers. Although I've thought about doing an early cr80 or cr85 conversion to get the newer inverted forks and disc brake
Zach Baxter do you like the fox bar risers? Are they durable/solid?
@@nicecouch1232 These are the ones I have and they are really good quality and have a ton of adjustability for maxium comfort.

Zach Baxter should you mind sending me some pictures of what they look like?
How did you find a pre-2001 exhaust pipe? All the pipes I’ve seen say 2001+
01-03 is the same chasis and motor as the 90s ones just with different plastics. I'm sure they would fit just fine
Motorsport has pre 2001 fmf 4cores
What 120 bore kit would you recommend?, I have the same bike.
The BBR motorsports one is the best if you can find one. Mine was a TBT which is just a knock off of the BBR one
@@GasGasRider619 thanks so much
@@sd-fuckery633 no problem. Just make sure and get a Clymer service manual for it too. The whole kit installs just like the factory top end and is pretty simple to do
Thx but I’m 15 and just can’t seem to get the bike up
How do you let your hands off the handles and the bike keeps running? I thought the clutch had to be it with no throttle.
Only at a stop. When in higher RPMs bikes need to be able to run with clutch out, gears will still spin
how to wheelie on a xr seems harder
So do you pull it up or pop the clutch
Started out just learning the technique without the clutch which I would recommend. Load the front suspension, transfer your body weight and time the throttle just right and you can wheelie just about anything with enough practice
how has it help up
I got a 2002 with a 120 bore too
great bikes, just remember to clean the air filter every now and then or it will start smoking real bad
Did you have to make any modifications or changes for the big bore kit too fit ?
@@JerseyKidGoneWrong no, it was completely bolt on just like factory parts and I used all the factory service manual torque and clearance specs
Howzit bro, I am considering buying a second hand ‘97, think I should get it? It is second hand so I might need to buy a new carb. Any ideas?
I say go for it! It's the perfect bike to learn on. I wouldn't be half the rider or mechanic I am today without my xr100. Not many bikes can take a 220lb guy riding it around everyday doing wheelies, but the old xr can
@Zach Baxter. awesome! the guy who i want to buy it from has confirmed that he is selling it for 250$. is that good?
@@jasonbolt1 ya running and riding they are worth $500-1000 depending on the shape. If all it needs is a $20 carb off ebay I'd be all over it
@@GasGasRider619 wassup man, just a quick update, got the bike for $250, and yeah need a bit of a cleaning but really that was about it, the other day I just had to clean the carb because I had kicked it in a long time, so it was pissing fuel, but yeah, still runs like a dream
@@jasonbolt1 good to hear man. I love these little bikes. They were built to last and with a little maintenance will last a lifetime
What bars are on it
Pro taper CR high bends with Rox 2in adjuster/risers
I have the same bike but I can’t do wheelies on it
Practice, practice, practice!!! Every time you ride it just get comfortable going a little bit farther back than the previous day. If you stick with that you'll be dragging fender in no time. Also watch a lot of Graham Jarvis videos, you'll thank me later lol
I got this same exact bike but mine is a 94. I can put it in gear and put my thumb over plug hole and I'm getting no compression out of top end how much and where is link for this model rebuild kit
When I bought my TBparts 120cc kit it was just under $170 but I can't find a link to buy one right now. I know BBR also has a 120cc kit for the xr100 but it's closer to $300
what bars do you have?
Pro taper CR high bend, with Rox 7/8in risers
@@GasGasRider619 nice would you recommend it?
@@zackskinner2666 ya the risers really help open up the cockpit on the smaller bikes. Gives your knees way more room to move
@@GasGasRider619ok nice. I already have the same bars as you. Just got them yesterday. Ill prolly get some risers too.
@@zackskinner2666 these are the ones I have. Kinda pricey but built really well and will fit any bike with 7/8in bars.

I got that
But it’s a 1995
What?
