What all did you have to do?

Very clever! That looks like a salt spreader with a blower on it. What kind of blower do you use and how many feet of hose can you pump through?

Thanks! You are correct, it is an old salt spreader. We used an old 8hp Little Wonder for the blower. The bark is fed from the truck into an auger that is powered by the original disc spreader motor. The longest stretch of hose we've ran on it is 60 feet. We have to change the amount of bark fed into the auger with the different lengths of hose but it is easily done with the adjustable door on the spreader hopper. It won't ever push it the 300ft that the professional blowers will but it does pretty good and saves us a lot of time, material and labor. We've probably ran 150+ yards through it so far this year.

@@adamodonnell5685 when creating a hopper what should the distance between the incoming air flow in relation to out flow with Material? I also see on your outflow to the hose is wedge shaped. What is the reason? Thank you.

@@adamodonnell5685 Great idea, I'm looking to build one similar to this set up. Any more information you would be willing to share about it?

This is so epic! Nicely done!
That must save so much labor time. Wherever you work is lucky to have you! Way to go!

Is the auger coming straight down from the spreader instead of the propeller or do you have a horizontal auger in the larger tube?
What is the purpose of the two tubes? Is one an air gap or is it holding a feed auger? If it has an auger how did you power the additional auger?

    • @adamodonnell5685

The larger tube has a horizontal auger that is powered by the old hydraulic motor that ran the disc spreader on the sander. The bottom tube is just for the air off the blower.

I just uploaded a video that might give you a better idea of how it works. I just had it in my gallery from earlier this year. Between the blower and the hopper there is a grey oil absorbent pad and underneath that is the auger motor.

Thank you, I’m guessing they combine at the end. About how long is the auger?
Do you think a larger blower would increase the blowing capability?
      I appreciate the help.

What is the absorbent pad for?

It would with a better airlock system like they have on the real bark blowers. We have to prime the auger with bark or else the air will blow back through the auger. We are still working on improving it but it got us through this year.
