What kind of internet service? I know they have a regional hospital that can handle most cardiac but I believe they have limited or no oncology (cancer) services. San Antonio's a long hour's drive south. Mason is the next town west, and Menard, after that. Or head for Junction and I-10, and spend half-of-the-remaining-life driving across West Texas. The REAL West Texas... Sonoro, Ozona, eventually Ft Stockton, Van Horn... out there, the scenery might even be better at night than in broad daylight! (Stargazers will LOVE West Texas.)
You failed to mention the outrageously high TX property taxes that go along with the high priced homes & how every year there frequently dramatic year over year increases. This is especially bad - & worrisome - if you're on a fixed income. Or even if you're not, you still have to be concerned about the tax hit on your budget.

Property taxes are definitely higher in Texas than quite quite a few other states, but thank goodness we don’t have state income tax.
