Walk through Hanley now and you fear for your life .....that's in the day ! When I was a kid a visit to Hanley was like going on holiday .....somewhere special .
We had some amazing buildings that lasted decades that were demolished for us to build some of the worst architecture you could ever imagine.............. only to be demolished a few years later.............. shameful and so so sad!
There is only one photo from the 1950s on here, a 1952 view of the Broadway in Meir and, like most of the photos, it is wrongly stretched out horizontally, giving a distorted view of the scene.
Here a trio of Antony Gormley-esque characters were creating quite a stir as part of 'City Lights', a month-long artistic presentation mounted throughout the city centre by Staffordshire University in the autumn of 1996.
I've come back to Stoke on Trent...Hanley....to live after 33years living in North Shropshire.... I'm so sad to see what the city has become.....litter everywhere....fly tipping in every alleyway and derelict buildings crying out for attention. Trying to be positive but it's just heartbreaking.....
The people that work in Smithfield need somewhere to park, its Labours fault that 3 Smithfield has not been built yet, thats why the multi storey is not has full as planned.
Stoke on Trent had lost pretty much of it's real architectural character by the 70's and due to a concerted effort from that point on the rest has been destroyed. The US president John F. Kennedy went to watch a film at the Broadway Cinema, long gone, when he stayed at the Dairy House in Trentham. If only there'd been someone with the vision to save all those iconic buildings that were demolished during the 50's, 60's and 70's in the council's institutionalised spree of vandalism.

this makes me very sad. I remember these places when the town was a nice place to go. Even parliament row looks half decent here.
Why the irratating music
nice video
The statues at 31 seconds are they by Antony Gormley?

Stoke on Trent the city that always sleeps. Thanks to council wasting money on carparks and new council buildings and classing it as regeneration.
But uhh hey hilton... yay...
