Tom Waits makes sense; I've always found Neil's lyrics to have that same sort of "not-quite-stream of consciousness" vibe, where the words might not make literal sense yet paint some very vivid pictures in the mind. Always wondered what it would be like for the two to collaborate!
He's absolutely right that music isn't owned by anybody. All that cultural appropriation stuff is utter nonsense. EVERY culture on earth was influenced by someone else.
