This definitely brings me to tears to my eyes and my heart and my memories. Wonderland Sydney was the best Theme Amusement Park i have ever been to and I am so glad I went There on 2 Occasions with my family.
I was a ride operator at Wonderland Sydney, between 1996 and 1999, working the Demon, Bush Beast, Space Probe and other rides. Best job ever, entertaining the kids and all, and seeing so many happy faces. All the cares in the world just melted away. I miss the place so much...
Going through old emails and found this again. Still really pulls on my heart strings. Man I loved that place as a kid. I urn for the simpler days of my youth.
Such a sad thing to watch,I went there countless times as a child, most of my happy childhood memories were here,my sisters went to the opening night,it was such a fun place, now just a memory......R.I.P Wonderland.
if paramount bought the park it probably still be here like canadas wonderland and kings dominion and kings island and great america and carowinds and cedar fair would have keeped it open like there doing with the other parks iv mentioned never been to australias wonderland but still sad hopthis never happens to canadas wonderland if your in canada come to canadas wonderland its similer
Thxs for keeping alive, those almost forgotten memories. B/ground music was nice too. Yes, we now live in 2016.13.4 , many have departed. Where have all the flowers gone.
honestly still is my most favorite place in the world, just remembering the times I had as a kid with my family makes me teary, the park may be gone but my memories will last forever
Cant believe how emotional this video is. Brought back a lot of memories I sadly wont be able to share with my kids now. Miss you Wonderland. Glad you got these photos
OMG... I worked there from before the parked opened to the end of '87. And this brings back some memories alright. Had to turn off the music as it was too sad to see such a magical place in this state. Thank you for sharing this.
It brought tears to my eyes... my wife, daughter and I spent a wonderful, memorable day there back in 1996. Seeing this now, it brought back memories of a special period in my life.
What a damn shame Australia's Wonderland went into receivership and and was sold and left in disrepair. This was the place where childhood dreams did come true for the kiddie winks. The sound of talk and laughter from the children, the sight of families truly enjoying themselves and forgetting about their lives in the city. It was a wonderful wonderland away from the everything. When I lived in Sydney, my friends and I always went there to get away from our jobs and hectic lives in the city. We would ride all the rides, our favorite ride was the wooden roller coaster and this other ride which I think was the cat and mouse??? We would spend the whole day there reliving our childhood and just being big kids. The theme Hanna & Barbera Wonderland was aptly named. When I return to Sydney, (the city that would either make me or break me, it made made me) very soon after 40 years in self imposed exile, I will really miss this truly special icon. Looking at a recent photo of where the park once stood, my heart sank and felt like a blade had ripped through it; because this generation of new little ones will never know the meaning of true fun and laughter and joy of what being a child was all about. I was only 16 yrs of age when the park opened and that feeling of being there a few days after opening day was a huge thrill. If there were plans to rebuild, I would 110% support calls for the re- building of this iconic Australian property. This property should never have been sold to overseas Asian investors. They own too much of us. WHY NOT A BIG SHOUT OUT THERE TO ALL SYDNEY SIDERS AND ALL NATIONALLY TO SUPPORT ANOTHER, BIGGER, BETTER, HANNA & BARBERA WONDERLAND USING THE ORIGINAL BLUEPRINTS AND ADDING ADDITIONAL FEATURES. 🎼🎶🎵🎶🎵🎶🎵🎶🎼🎠🎠🎠🎠🎠🎠🎠🎠🎠🎡🎡🎡🎡🎡🎡🎡🎡🎡🎪🎪🎪🎪🎪🎪🎪🎪🎪
Thank you for posting this it kinda makes me feel a bit sad but this place had some wonderful memories for especially when all the volunteers from the Rural Fire Service and there families got to go there after the big 1994 fires
That was heartbreaking to watch. 'My happy place' is dilapidated. So many amazing memories, family day-outs, memories with old friends having a ball. In the 90’s I remember seeing the original Ninja Turtles from the TMNTs movie! Also meeting the cast of channel 10's EStreet. Some of my fondest memories to date. #BringBackAustraliasWonderland
i miss wonderland soooo bloody much.. lots of great memories.... seriously the best place in the world... it really breaks my heart that they got rid of it.. R.I.P wonderland :'( :'(
I miss this place. I made many childhood memories there. There were rumours of it being rebuilt. Would be awesome if that happened. I'd get an annual pass.
Wow a flood of forgotten memories I went there when they used to have Christian youth rallies and later for the all nite Upotia rave parties lol Beautiful video thank u uploader
even more depressing than seeing old photos of Wonderland in its mayday and hearing all about it is the fact that they are building a new WetnWild on it's grounds :( Makes me sad because even though I never got the opportunity to experience it myself, I'd love to see it returned to its former glory days and it reopened to the public to have a chance to experience it, it looks like it was amazing :(
I have very faint but not forgotten memories of visiting this place in 2003, a year before it closed . I lived in NZ at the time and visited Sydney for a holiday to see family. When we moved here permanently in 2007 and I was devastated to find out it had shut down forever
Wow! I see the Zodiac and the sky ride! Both of those rides came from Kings Island here in Mason Ohio! I have ridden both many times as a kid. The Zodiac was broken for the entire 1986 season. It was after 1986 that the Zodiac was sent to Australia's Wonderland. Your park there in Sydney was owned by Taft Broadcasting and Taft kept that park when a new company formed and took over ownership of Taft and became KECO. ( Kings Entertainment Company) based in Cincinnati Ohio. I was working there during that time and was a teen during this time. Kings Island still exists today and is now owned by Cedar Fair Entertainment whom owns Cedar Point Amusement park about 200 miles north of Kings Island in Sandusky Ohio. Both of these Ohio parks do big business and both will be here for many years to come! If you get a chance to visit us here in Ohio, please make sure to spend a few days at these parks! You will love it. Ohio is home of the most roller coasters in any one state. Be ready to ride and fly!
wonderland was the place when we were younger. Went there every weekend because we had wonderpasses. It was a place where we had fun and just enjoyed been kids. Why couldn't they just leave it and get rid of Luna Park. Thanks for this video upload it did bring back memories but sad to see it as well. RIP wonderland :((
im crying...i was only there when i was almost 4 as my dad use to work as security there... and it was for the final christmas party that was held for the workers there in 2003... i dont have many memories sadly of being there. i remember my mum going on the pirate ship, and my brother and dad going down the water slides and i cried because i wasnt big enough to go on it. but im mostly crying now because of one of the memories i do have of the snowy river rampage, to know i was there when i was 3... :(
Much like everyone else who commented, this brang tears to the eyes, as this was my 'happy place'. I had a date in High School with a girl, Kristy Calaz-Walker & remember the love felt that day. I have no idea where she is these days, even with Facebook we havent connected. I just hope she has the memories i have.. For always. #BringBackAustraliasWonderland [..& dont change a thing!]
I think if you were a kid and were lucky enough to experience Wonderland, you were very privileged, and well before the mass takeover of the smartphone era we now live in, when times were more innocent. I also miss Wonderland, so many great memories I had there growing up as a kid and exploring that amazing and marvellous playground. It's sad to see these photos now.
I just feel so lucky that I got to experience wonderland before it shut down. I've been to the other parks in Aus. But none give me that feeling that I had, when I was 8 and exploring Wonderland with my dad..
This video bought back so many happy childhood memories, so sad to see a place i remember as pure fun & amazing abandoned & falling apart. My fave part was old town section (can't remember what it was called), I'm completely shocked after many years of fear & panic to see how shallow the river rampage actually was. I used to think it was bottomless, i loved it but was terrified of falling out and drowning. lol. Now iv'e seen it empty i feel like a real dope. We lost a great place when it closed.
We used to go there on Mother's day when there wasn't much of a crowd. We were able to stay on the rides as not many were lined up to get on. The best day there!
This makes me sooo sad and sooooooooo angry at the same time.. All my childhood memories just rotting away like nobody cared.. I STILL dream about Wonderland still being open.. And riding the rides again..l i just wish these dreams would stop.. If the new Wonderland is rebuilt it just wont be the same as the original thou... Soooo angry they let this park turn into a industrial park... I just wanna punch the person/s who brought it and turned it into LG factory!
I haven’t even gone to this place, but my god I think going to a Hanna Barbera themed land in a theme park sounds so awesome to me (if they still had it before they closed). Hope everyone had a good time in Wonderland, because it sure sounded bloody awesome 🥲
i went to wonderland for the first time when i was about 7 or 8 and got a promotional flintstones movie "big bite" toy with the tickets bundled, it was really cool i wish i still had that toy. i miss wonderland, i cant believe its gone
I've been there in Sydney Wonderland since I was a little girl, then in 2001 went there with my school mates and also with my mum & sister in the beginning of 2002 before I went into high school. I rode in the Demon, some circle rides, dodgem cars and the Hannah Barbara Land was a great spot.
took my first girlfriend katey to wonderland on our first date. she was the best and most beautiful girl i ever knew. we were crazy for each other now she's married with two kids. this video killed me inside.
Nice memories, The Space probe ride @ 1.14 and 2.00, Similar to dreamworlds giant drop, I was amongst the first on it on opening day when a friend won a competition! The roller coaster Demon that went round the track and then in reverse was great!
yes i did after i posted this question i then found the website obove lol. amazing website, i was smiling the while time i was on the site remembering my times there. thanx for that site.
Well got better then fantastic news wonderland can be considered to be coming back all these memories can all be coming back again as a kid I rode my frist roller coaster there the bush beast great one

Yes. Several years after the park opened they added a small Aussie Wildlife section that was sort of self-contained...meaning if you only wanted to see the native animals (koalas, lizards, wombats and other smaller aussie mammals, birds and reptiles etc) but not pay for the rest of the park you could pay a smaller fee to just visit that section because it also had its own entrance off the main cark park. Australia was spending millions on Oz tourism promotion in Japan in the 80's and early 90s hence why there were so Japanese tourists visiting back then
Can't understand how it failed, why travel to the gold coast for the same thing? The new water park that has just opened may die as well....after all there was the same kind of water park at or near (can't quite remember where) Mt Druitt
i feel sad watching this me my brother and sisters all had a wonder pass every year and went every second weekend then i ended up working there in the chicken outlet round tables so so many great memories that will live on for ever just wish my kids now could have the same to go to just around the corner like i did.......
I've seen a sign from there that has spiderman and the hulk on it and it's at the Londonderry junkyard and I swear I have a special spoon that has this place on it
I loved going there.. thanks to oversea buiers the park end up closing down.. just think now how sydney got wet and wild.. not everyone would want go there...
It was a good place but way to expensive. Look how it says Adult wonderpass $125. That is insane considering what they had there, You can get the 3 park passes in qld for 6mths for $99...for 3 PARKS! Were there also animals at the park?
The wildlife zone was mostly just busloads full of (usually) Japanese tourists who had no interest in the main theme park but just wanted a photo with a koala. In the 80s the camera-toting japanese tourist taking endless photos was a well-known cliched stereotype at the time. Australia was spending millions on Oz tourism promotion in Japan in the 80's and early 90s hence why there were so Japanese tourists visiting back then
Can't understand how it failed, why travel to the gold coast for the same thing? The new water park that has just opened may die as well....after all there was the same kind of water park at or near (can't quite remember where) Mt Druitt
it was called waterworks at mt Druitt
such a shame it closed. miss it so much
The pirate ship was for the toughies when i was little i was so scared but in awe of it
