Evolution, in the sense of evolutionary biology, absolutely happened and has been more than proven and demonstrated. In fact, descent with modification is one of the most reliably established facts in science. The discovery of genetics has strengthened, not weakened it.
You can fool yourself but you can't disprove evolution by merely redefining it as something it is not, i.e. "evolutionism." If evolutionism, as you have defined it, "never happened," how is it "a burden on scientific research"?

It's possible under certain limited circumstances. It does not (to our knowledge) include the general idea of a divine being because that could by definition disobey all rules. In essence to prove nonexistence one has to show that it either contradicts the axioms (as in math) or that 'the seat is already taken', i.e.the existence of X would require Y to be absent while Y is indisputably present.

As a part-time audio technician, I need to suggest that the microphones not be pointing at the loudspeakers. Aron's is a little offset, but Lilandra's is pointed directly at the loudspeaker.
I left creationism and became an atheist, because I accepted the Bible as a package deal. Interested in science, cosmology in particular, I found the claim that the universe is billions of years old. First, I denied it outright. Then I thought that it was just God's way of testing us. Then I bothered to inquire just how scientists knew that the universe is billions of years old. Suprise, suprise! The scientists actually do know what they're talking about, and they have the evidence to back it up. Creationists had been lying to me the entire time. Unaware that "just a theory" in science is the highest honor that your idea can be given, creationists have been unknowingly praising scientists, because "just a theory" means that the theory is still open to being disproven.... BUT HAS NOT!
Then I started noticing the contradictions elsewhere in the Bible. It is rife with contradictions. For instance, the many genealogies which DO NOT AGREE. The NT claims that God is loving, yet the OT shows the complete opposite. Maybe God changed his mind and is a recovering genocidal maniac, NO! The NT claims that God is unchanging. God in the OT claims that his is the ONLY God, and they there is none sitting beside him, YET, in the NT, Jesus claims that not only is he the son of God, but he sits at the right hand of God. And the list goes on...

  • @firstatheist

That also takes molecular biology, quantum mechanics, astronomy, nanotechnology, and geophysics of your "science" list. Observation doesn't mean you watched something happen in real time. Observation is intertwined with strong inference. In fact, you don't observe anything directly or in real time. Everything is a delayed signal in your brain that was triggered by external stimuli. So, actually nothing is science according to your criteria.

Geophysics is not repeatable in the sense that you can set up earthquake and/or continental plate shifting experiments. It's purely observational just like astronomy. Biological evolution is not only observable but repeatable and testable. Just to get you started heres a paper you might be interested in: Long-term experimental evolution in Escherichia coli. I. Adaptation and divergence during 2,000 generations. The PI was Richard Lenski.
Now would be the time to move the goal post.

The main, and basic difference between religion and science is simple: No matter if you are Christian, Hindu or Muslim, atheist, or whatever else: if you research something - like gravity or the diversity of biological life - scientifically and without preconseptions, you will all get the same answer.

Because I've gone my entire life without needing a gun, I've never known anyone who ever needed a gun and most gun owners live in areas of low crime, like in rural townships where the only crime is mostly drunken people shooting their spouses yet they spend $1000s on guns, accessories, ammo and range memberships so they can protect their $300 TV. I said most, not all.

Once again, maths are not science. The two have completely separate methodologies.
The theory of evolution has boosted our understanding of the living natural world far beyond any other theory in the life sciences. Once again, evolution allows us to make testable hypothesis that are generally very accurate. Also, I don't know why you would think Dawkins is run of the mill. Dawkins is a brilliant biologist that revolutionized the way many think about natural selection in "The Selfish Gene".

Illusions lives in the heart of the ill-taught, for time exists in different rationality through a pardoned convenience, nuance is the thought people must take up when talking of religion; it is just a disdain that loses prospect in the correspondence of thought . . . Knowledge can exist though its prospects do not. You can look at it like a poison invading the body . . . It tends to infect the mind more than the body, illusion is a strong mirror! Mirrors are meant to scatter . . .

"An event that happened yesterday is forever lost to observational science." So if a person dies alone in his home and his body is not discovered for over 24 hours, it didn't happen? Believe it or not there are methods that can determine when that person died. That is basic compared to the methods used in determining the age of fossils, rock layers and the like.

I agree with you in theory, it's just that many theists have such a fluid concept of their own religion that it doesn't matter how contradictory reality is to their holy books, they'll just continue believing anyway. So while evolution does disprove a number of religions, it's unfortunately rarely useful for that purpose among the faithful. That's why I kinda don't bother connecting the two; at least that way we can avoid the sorts of false dichotomies theists tend to use.

well, part of what you are missing is that god is not necessarily tied to the respective cults. if their magical sky daddy is only who and what he/she/it/them is/are because of their anachronistic books of fables and fairy tales then yes, it does disprove it. but that is thru their myths of creation which may or may not be tied to their magical sky daddy. if you cannot differentiate between the cult and magical sky daddy then it does. if they are kept separate then no, it does not disprove it.
