In 2017 we cruised with Holland America for 21 glorious days between Santiago and BA with 5 days scenic cruising in Antarctica. 4 staff from the US base spent the day onboard- showering, dining and giving enrichment talks. Marvellous! Did we miss anything? I would say we saw surprising and unscripted glory. On New year's eve we were toasting at midnight and glanced outside to see a large number of humpback whales cruising beside us and glowing in the midnight sun. We saw heaps of penguins and seals swimming beside us, basking upon unique and icy blue icebergs very close to see with plain eyesight. In some ways it seems better to not land as sailing past gives such a stirring and life affecting experience without disturbing the land.
In relation to boot sizes, and you on the large size, or have big calves, and renting some or using those on board if they have them, always check the brand beforehand, and to then look up their specifications. Look up not just length sizing, but also leg circumference. I know some people who relied on those supplied by the ship, and they could not fit the boot on their leg, even though the boot sizing fitted their foot length. You need to factor in not just your lower leg circumference at it widest spot, but also the extra space needed for the various layers, as well as folding excess material of your pants whilst in the boot
Comments: 1) we are smart enough to know that we are not physically able to do that cruise. We are looking at a Princess cruise at about $90 pppd. 2) we bought a couple of the red Silverseas expedition jackets at Goodwill for $20 each. They were fantastic for Alaska! They attracted quite a lot of questions.
In relation to the person’s question about how many pairs of waterproof trousers do you need - I took two. I only used one, but had another just in case the usual pair I used got a big tear in them, or failed in some way. The second pair I had was just a cheap waterproof pair, as compared to the windproof and waterproof better quality pair that I used every day. You really need to wear waterproof pants in the zodiacs, so if your one pair becomes unusable, then it would be a safety issue if you went in a zodiac without waterproof pants on. So you would then miss out on further zodiac cruises, landings, etcetera.
Annoyingly this clashed with a Silversea webinar on visiting antarctica! What do you see in South Georgia? Those cruises cost more. Which whales have you seen, please?

Love the penguins ❤ great information
Enjoyed this livestream and your latest video as always.
Helps me a lot in choosing the best place to try a cruise line and ship~
You might want to define JUMPER. In America it is either a one piece body suit or more often, a light, springtime dress !
It has a different meaning in the UK. Another UK utuber, Emma Cruises, often explains these Britishisms.

Thank you
I believe Hurtigruten has landings and is the least expensive
