It's always incredible when someone so young can sing a song so much older in nature than they are in years. But man, does she ever sing the heck out of this.
My mom used to watch Big Love YEARSSSS ago when I was in high school….she loved the show, this specific song and the emotion she displayed while singing it. My mom passed 2.5 years ago..haven’t heard or thought of this show or song in years and it randomly popped into my head a few days ago. Been listening to it non-stop since….might have to binge watch this now
(non American here). I came from a typical family with happy upbringing, with dad working class, and mum doing some part time jobs later as us kids were older. However the concept of Polygamy has always fascinated me. I must be clear, meaning when all the participants are of fully legal age and entering of free will. I am astonished how the modern Western World, and USA society and government in particular, really gets its knickers-in-a-knot, on the subject of Polygamy. Remember it is still practiced in some Muslim and certain minority Jewish societies, some minority Christian sects (like the FLDS) as well as various native tribal cultures such as in Papua New Guinea (and previously Native American ?). (Polygamy with one wife and multiple husbands has always been rare, but was previously practiced in Tibet until Communist China took control in the 1950's). I was addicted to the Big Love TV show right from episode one. I challenge anyone to NOT cry a half a box of tissues worth, during the all time finale episode at the end of season 5. Yes there was lovely music throughout including some Christian songs which I came here , still looking for one featured in one episode). I think an underlying theme of the show was simply the TRUE FAMILY LOVE. This is played right out to the end of the finale episode where Bill becomes injured and begs (Wife 1) Barb to pray for him, acknowledging her earlier induction, so women can indeed hold the rights of Priesthood, and the Epilogue which shows all the woman working together as true "sister wives" maintaining a loving family bond with all family members. For folks that follow/swallow whole, the Christian Bible (as translated into English) it's worth noting that The Old Testament makes it clear that Polygamy is acceptable, and the worst the New Testament says about it, is that Deacons (church leaders) "should have no more than one wife" or their duties to their church may be shortchanged.
Sorry for your loss, and I love your story/memory of this scene especially. It’s a cinematic masterpiece. I hope you’ve binge watched the entire series. It was phenomenal. I knew as soon as the first episode aired with The Beach Boys theme song that it was gonna be greatness. I hope watching it brings back all of the memories of your mom. 💜
@@JamieRHubertthank you for your kind words 🩷 I still haven’t been able to bring myself to watch it. I had my first baby girl and sing and play this to her.
Daveigh sings so beautifully. This scene shows a lot of emotion with Amanda Seyfried and the other girl who is attracted to Daveigh. And poor Bill in bed by himself, he really did try to do his best for all of his three wives. Big Love is a show where once you start watching, you have to watch each new episode.
The actress playing the piano always does it for me. If you've ever watched your church pianist hang on for dear life when the soloist gets real, you'll recognize the face.
Actually she was still processing her daughter telling her what a complete piece of shit Rhonda was, the same girl that the piano player had been working so hard to save and adopt. Her face was showing the betrayal.
Takes me back to be a little kid, hearing this, touched my soul. I remember my mama in the early 70’s singing this. I have to go to the range with the boys and they’d pull my man card if they seen me right now. Drink my cup of coffee and recover, lol.
Watched this show back in like 2008 when box dvds were the new way to binge series. Fell in love with the show and still remember the build up to this scene. Good times❤
Loved this song when it came out in 1972 - thank you for this emotional reunion - which was incredibly better than the original version! Just the piano and that absolutely great voice - gorgeous!
Outstanding on the show was my first time hearing this song. Been sold ever since!!!! Race doesn't matter when it comes to music in my book which everything to me!!!!;
What a terrifying character. Played so well. That look they are giving her at 1:05 really says it all. They’re like “how can something so beautiful come from someone so ugly inside???”
What was so profound about this song at this moment was that as she sang, it showed Sarah, Nickie, Barb and Margie...who were experiencing moments of unrest and unhappiness with their lives, highlighting what the polygamist lifestyle does to women. So the song was ironic af.
Then move to another country if it's so bad here. It's always funny how the people bitching the most about how terrible the US is never end up going somewhere else. If I hate where I'm at, I leave. There are 243 other countries on Earth. Go find one.
The performance is conflicting because she sings “I’m the happiest girl in the whole USA” like she’s trying to convince herself that it’s true! When deep down she is miserable and far from happy 😢
Donna Fargo composed it and sang it the best (to me) but this girl definitely does great with it. Don’t know the show, but she certainly doesn’t seem happy.
Daveigh has such a beautiful voice

One of my favourite scenes. Always go back to it.

I had to watch this again after seeing the clip of her with Diddy.
This performance is already so chilling
What a great voice. I didn't know she could sing so well.
Beautiful voice! And glad she's not climbing out of a well :)
That’s because she already did that in 2002 lol
I love that you caught that too 😹😹😹
this show is amazing
The cinematic mastery of this scene was everything to me back when it first aired - and it still absolutely kills.
Donna Fargo original
This girl does it justice ❤

I'm still surprised why Daveigh doesn't act anymore. She is talented and left her career drop.
She has been arrested - drugs
@@missmartine7139 Oh okay now I know why Daveigh chase has stop acting

Seems like she just wanted to leave the Spotlight. She also disappeared from Social Media.

Many people consider this the best cover of the song. She sings it fine, but I doubt the best cover ever.
