@@michaelmorneault6543 that's why this is so touching. She's not happy. She is a little girl who is supposed to marry a disgusting old man. Marriage should be a happy time, but it isn't for a child being forced into marriage with a pedophile because of "religion"
A dying man riddled with age and decrepitude. A young woman in the fullest blossom of youth. Was there ever such a glaring contrast? Wonderful, simply wonderful
This gave me goosbumps the first time I heard it. Then I replayed it because I wanted it stuck in my head for a while. The contrast of the sadness in her voice and face, with the happiness of the lyrics works so well.
Brilliant scene from an amazing series. I got sucked into watching Big Love on demand. This scene is brilliant and the song is not just survival, it is a revelation to Sarah and her friend that this little girl who acted so innocent is really a lot more sophisticated and manipulative than they had bargained for. She has even bested Roman. And it's surreal! There's a strong David Lynch connection here I think. Stanton, Dern (Laura Dern's father) and Bills mother was in Twin Peaks.
oh my god they did this so perfectly like the catharsis I felt with Roman so close to death and having to watch Rhonda sing that she's so fucking happy god what a great show
So crazy that I'm here 11 years after I first heard this. I was married at 18 in slc when it watched this. I don't know why I just felt compelled to share. I really loved this show. I'll have to watch it again.
I've been dying to find this song by Daveigh Chase ever since this episode aired. I think she's an amazing singer and it saddens me that I've really not seen her in anything since.
Holy crap! I am watching Big love rn and just heard her sing this song. I was already impressed by her voice but wow. Just wow. This actress is fantastic in that she convinces you too truly despise her character but every time i hear her sing I'm so impressed! Seriously talented young woman
@Melkefin Not to mention the medium shots of Heather and Sarah: both mortified by Rhonda but for different reasons. The sheer menace of Heather's being outed is brilliantly executed drama.
No matter what age couple it was written for originally, obviously this is meant to be ironic in her case, and the situations of the other wives...very powerful, especially if you have seen all the episodes leading up to this one! LOVE the show...
Awesomely appropriate for the scene at the time. You really had to build up to it from her storyline in the series to truly appreciate how and why she got to where she is here, and it's the only way to get close to the spine-tingly type feeling induced by her character and the reactions/situations of the other two girls in this scene - and Roman's sitch too, of course. One of the most memorable endings for any series episode I reckon.
this song amazed me when I heard it during the show... just looked it up today and listened to it a bunch of times... wish it was a single .. anyway, I think your commentary nailed it. The dissenters on this post have neither insight or experience..... rest assured, you do. Exactly how I felt. Brilliant pick and brilliant execution!!!
This is by far the greatest version on this song I have ever heard. I love the key. She has a deep voice for a white girl. And the cynicism that weaves through it is astounding.
YES , Rest In Peace HARRY DEAN STANTON 😞🙏 , a wonderful actor.👍 I also loved watching you first in "Escape From New York " 😊 You will be MISSED , Sincerely Andrea 😎
Wow this an awesome song she sings, she should make a CD with this song in it and I bet she would make this song # 1 again like it used to be. She shows good emotion in this song very, very well done.
@Melkefin I think the selection of that song was just beyond brilliant. The song is BLATANTLY inappropriate for a child to sing, since its lyrics are about married life. Here's this girl who has been conditioned to believe she understands such things. And she sings the song as if she does! But of course, she doesn't. She can't. She's a child. The duality of the inappropriateness of the song and her lifestyle is perfectly, yet subtly executed here.
Daveigh turns 18 y.o. 7/24/08. Happy Birthday! Found out after I searched Briana Evigan on IMDB after seeing her on 'Fear Itself' the other night. Daveigh & Briana are both in S. Darko (post-production), a sequel to Donny Darko, one of my all time favorites. Daveigh is reprising her role as Samantha Darko, Donny's littlest sister. It takes place about 6 years after the events of the original movie. No word if the Bunny will return but strange visions haunt Ms. Darko. Both girls are beautiful!!!
When I watched it before . I didn’t get all the symbolism in this one scene…. So deep…when you realize how unhappy theses girls were. And are in real life. It’s real… it make my cry…
Love this video. Love Daveigh's voice! And I just realized that one of the girls in the video was a doctor on Greys anatomy! Who just got killed off :(
she has alot of soul! She lives under such rigid control singing is the only outlet for her. She sings two more soings on the show "A Train they Call the City of New Orleans" whilst she is disowned alone and hotchhiking then she sings "Ill be There" when she was stripping. I think she shouldve been Bennys second wife he wanted to save her and it was compelling as hell.
What makes you think the song is obviously about a mature, married, adult relationship? I happen to know many people who started dating in high school and even middle school who are now 20+ years married and some of the happiest people I have ever met. Everybody has their experiences but to say that someone has to meet your standards of an adult to be in a happy relationship is extremely close-minded. Believe it or not, young adults are capable of this.
I never said a child is "incapable of feeling love and happiness", but the song is obviously about a mature, married, adult relationship which I would certainly argue a 13 year old (or however old her character is supposed to be) would not be able to understand...I certainly wasn't trying to insult children.
I rewinded this after I saw this. What a voice. Daveigh nailed that character Rhonda Volmer
this is the absolute best version of the song
what a voice
I agree
I’m the old man groaning at lost youth. It’s the best version
One of the most poignant moments in television history. I wish this recording were available for purchase. Ms. Chase was scary good in this role.
adscribe exactly. She has a beautiful voice. I’ve never heard this song but loved it the first time I heard her sing it
Acknowledged her voice is beautiful but without a smile & a sunny disposition it's missing something...
@@michaelmorneault6543 that's why this is so touching. She's not happy. She is a little girl who is supposed to marry a disgusting old man. Marriage should be a happy time, but it isn't for a child being forced into marriage with a pedophile because of "religion"
You kind of want to choke her but then you hear her sing and she’s a lot more likeable.
So true. I hope Daveigh is doing well now. She has had some drug problems and ended up arrested a few years ago as a result.

I just listened to the Donna Fargo original and Daveigh Chase takes the cake.
100%
her voice has a straight shot through my ear and into my spine, I don't think if could get enough- so effin good.
She sounds like lost childhood and sadness
literally so obsessed with this. Just finished the show and now i'm so sad =(
Daveigh sings it big. Love it.
Thats straight out beautiful voice. She can really sing. All natural. No electrions. just a simple panio. Alot of singers need to be like this.
Rest in peace Harry Dean Stanton. I loved you as Roman Grant.
I think Daveigh Chase was great as Rhonda in Big Love. She was so funny I remember her one line about having "24 dollars in food stamps".
lmao
elastic_luv that was hilarious
i'm flipping obsessed with Big Love. This was a great episode, btw.
the piano playing... the singing... all perfect !

Beautiful rendition. It's especially chilling when you watch her singing and realize she probably doesn't believe a single word she's singing.
I absolutely love this version. What a voice. And it was such a sad and powerful song in Big Love.
oh my god they did this so perfectly like the catharsis I felt with Roman so close to death and having to watch Rhonda sing that she's so fucking happy god what a great show

Wow, she is so talented.
What a beautiful voice !
Damn what a voice!!!!
this is incredible. they did this scene perfect.
This version is PURE! Just a piano and her voice.....No bunch of back up singers to dilute it!
I ALWAYS LOVED THE WAY DAVEIGH CHASE SANG THIS., SUCH A SWEET CLASSIC... SHE PLAYED IN BIG LOVE, ALSO AN EXCELLENT SERIES....

Gorgeous voice!
nice voice... beautiful voice...
What a spectacular voice she has!
Everytime I hear her sing this song I get chills.. AMAZING! I wish she would record it .. I would play it at My wedding.
She was so good on this show.
Thanks for this, and for the mp3! I think this is so gorgeous, can't stop listening.
This is by far the greatest version on this song I have ever heard. I love the key. She has a deep voice for a white girl. And the cynicism that weaves through it is astounding.

She has an amazing voice..and a great actress to stir up all of these comments
She's got a powerful voice. So talented
Love Ms. Chase’s delivery❤😭
literally showstopping. wow.
I love this scene so much!
Rhonda was deceptive...but she had a lot of gumption and exerted all her will to escape the compound.
She was a little girl with no one to take care of her. I think she did what she thought she had to do. so sad!
@@katcarothers agree
Still here for this one!
110 she kicks but with singin i think got a killer voice! this crazy i keep watching this video every other day perhaps i need doctor phil??!!!
She crushed it.
man that girl can sing. So refreshing to have someone who doesn look like a barbie doll
Wow this an awesome song she sings, she should make a CD with this song in it and I bet she would make this song # 1 again like it used to be. She shows good emotion in this song very, very well done.
She has a very good voice.
i love villans always my favorite she reminds me of king geoffry from game of thrones! good work lady
Sing it girl!
@Melkefin

Well she’s like 13, 14. Not CHILD. But Not an adult either
Love it!
brilliant scene. wanda , nicki and Rhonda have been my favorite characters since season one.

Yeah I know I've seen The Ring many times but she is still one of my favorite actress

She’s amazing
this song is so beautiful! its quite old though used to be san by donna fargo in the 70s
Finding out that she was the little girl from "The Ring" brought me here.
Beautiful!
She is toooo good from Hollywood and (gasp ! ) she actually has talent without having to fake it ! :)
Gorgeous job she does. Chilling.
wow. this girl scared the shit out of me in the ring movie..
Amazing
AWESOME!
Loving Rhonda Volmer...
She is Beautiful and very good in singing
I love this song sooo much deff by daveigh
Love this video. Love Daveigh's voice! And I just realized that one of the girls in the video was a doctor on Greys anatomy! Who just got killed off :(
The also did the voice from Lilo from Lilo and Stitch in 2002, evidently.

love her version AND Donna Fargo
I haven't actually heard the original, but I feel like I like this version better regardless :)
I’m watching this in 2022
it was refering to the character she plays not the actress, in one episode she does steal an ipod and she is a child bride
this episode is the only time that i've felt sad for Roman, that feeling ended like 2 episodes after this
Jesus is Lord hallelujah worship him hallelujah
I did know that ms chase can sing but i wish to see her on the love on hbo
You can see the pain in her eyes..
what movie is this love this song. seems like a good movie. missed this one.
I spent some minutes searching the episode. Season 2 Episode 10.
She has a beautiful voice, but the song was very heartbreaking.....
i love rhonda almost as much as i love nikki, i loved this song and episode...
I agreeI believe that how consenting adults want to live their life is up to them.
Samara!
Love her!
very good

youtube unclebuck makes breakfest he sings during that is another great song!
Great episode
And she was the voice of Lilo in 'Lilo and Stitch.'
this was the girl who was Samara in the movie THE RING......scary.......
She was Lilo
She voiced the main character in Spirited Away.
