      Thanks for that encouragement. I just finished part 4 of 4 of the Comanche series. The approach into Cold Bay turned out to be quite a challenging approach to minimums.

I am chuckling to myself because when I listen to my recorded voice, I naturally think I sound pretty awful,, so it helps when I read someone actually likes the way I sound. I really appreciate your comment and thanks again for watching. Stay tuned for much more! Kindest regards, Tim G., FS MaNiA

    I appreciated the nav aids info and chart reading. I never saw a nav radio w/DME on the display. Is that on older radios only?
    I thought sure I would catch you forgetting to check the door before take off. But you took care of it.
    Another good one! You set the bar so high! Thanks, Tim.

      PT Johnson This was the first time I flew with Narco radios. These are relatively older units but not original to the 1959 Comanche. I'm pretty sure they didn't have the digital display of frequencies in 1959 so that makes me think the avionics were upgraded somewhere along the way. Most of the DME units I have flown are separate receiver units in the radio stack. The Narco's did a fine job however, and I must say, I have not seen many NDB stations collocated with a DME station. Normally I associate those with VOR's (VORTAC's). I guess since there are very few VOR's South of Cold Bay, the collocated DME's really help in identifying fixes/waypoints in the IFR route structure. That came in handy for finding Mordi intersection.I left that door open for taxi because that's the way I flew most Piper aircraft with only one door for entry. The small pilot window isn't enough airflow, so leaving the main door cracked allows enough prop wash in the cabin to provide ventilation on the ground and keep the windows from fogging up during taxi (which is simulated in the A2A model). Most light single engine aircraft don't have air-conditioning and it can get pretty hot in the cabin during start up and taxi operations. I do have a "before takeoff" checklist item to "close and latch" cabin door. In a Cessna, you can latch the door before starting the engine and open the window only for ventilation. Mooney's are like Pipers in that there is the one door that needs to stay unlatched to get some airflow. I closed and latched the door prior to taking off one day,,, added full power, just before rotation speed the door popped open. It wasn't quite latched all the way. I aborted the takeoff and took care of the problem. Another time in the same Mooney M20-J, I took off and had the door pop open on climb out. The wind/prop wash kept the door from opening more than an inch or so, however, it was noisy and unnerving to the passengers. I circled the field, landed, and secured the door. When these things happen, you learn to fly the airplane and don't let the distraction keep cause something worse than an open door to happen.Long explanation for a short comment,,, I just enjoy talking about airplanes,,, can't help myself. Thanks once again and as always for your comments and encouragement. Beechcraft King Air B200 by Flight1 coming up next. Stay tuned. Kindest regards, Tim G., FS MaNiA

    Fantastic video as always! As well as the flying, I really enjoy your bits on the history of the aircraft and fun facts! Can I please ask a question - could you have chosen the alternate airport as the one you took off from, since it would have been nearer? Or is there a reason why that's not done when planning IFR? Thanks!

      Mike Greenaway Hi Mike from Scotland, Great to have you onboard the FS MaNiA Channel!! I am planning a few more flights in Alaska before heading back to the lower 48. So much awesome scenery to see in Alaska to be sure. Here is a link to the repaint from the A2A forum post www.hightail.com/download/bXBaeFVRaFJubVU5WThUQw . I just realized the A2A Forum username for the re-painter is EightyRiftyFive. I will amend that in the video description. Hope that helps. Thanks very much for your comments and question. Hi Clayton! Thank very much for your kind words. I hope you are progressing well on your instrument ticket! I got my Instrument Rating in the 1990's before GPS became the main stream navigator. I learned to fly both precision ILS approaches as well as non precision NDB approaches. They can be challenging. GPS is way more intuitive and in my view safer.

    The info was right in front of my nose! My bad! Thanks for the info! This is the first time I've ever attempted a repaint a plane in FSX and I'm not sure how to, or where to save the file once I download, unzip and save it. Does it go into the FSX A2A folder then into the Comanche folder? Or do I need to do something else. I would sure appreciate your help with this. You are just so damn good at it! Thanks in advance for the help!

    Two questions. One, do you use a trackIR? If not how do you move around like that? Two, is this on vat sim?

  • @Mirandorl
    @Mirandorl 9 років тому +1

    If I may, can I ask why the airways at 8:36 are prefixed "G"? I know about V, T, J and Q, but what is a "G" airway? Is it one of the "green" federal airways (I am guessing not as its sort of gold coloured). I am just starting to get my head around the nuts and bolts of proper flight planning - there is a lot to take in!

    • @FSMaNiA
      @FSMaNiA  9 років тому

      +Mirandorl Hi Mirandorl, that is a great question. The "G" designates this airway is part of a regional network of ATS (Air Traffic Service) routes and is not a RNAV route. That means you can fly this route without RNAV or GPS equipped aircraft. I flew this airway with the use of the NDB radio beacon and ADF receiver. You can read more about En Route Operations and Navigation here: www.faa.gov/regulations_policies/handbooks_manuals/aviation/instrument_procedures_handbook/media/Chapter_2.pdf . Hope that information is helpful. Thanks for your question. Kindest regards, Tim G, FS MaNiA
