- Part I of finishing mounted deer heads. We're gonna be doing the cleanup and epoxy work on deer heads. this is done after the drying period right before painting and final touches.
Those mounts look good. Great work.
Thanks!!
Pretty cool technique.
Thanks!!
Great video. Could you please do a video on dry preserving a deer hide.
It's there in our deer head mounting video.

This was really fascinating to watch. I have a pronghorn mount that sustained some damage around the eye a few years back, and I used the same epoxy to fix it up. I had been using it to restore some elk antlers, and figured it might do the trick to repair some cracking around that eye. It turned out great, but little did I know that's what the pros use! You all ready for Colorado?
I'll finish getting ready for Colorado the morning we leave🤣, always do. It's how I roll, but I'm ready to get there. If you haven't seen it the be elk antler repair video you may be want to go back to and be watch it. Part 2 of the deer head finishing which is the painting I'll release soon. It's gonna show you enough you'll be able to get an airbrush and touch up your own mounts. I'd do touch in ups just like I'd do finishing. Hope you enjoy those as well. I'll be adding a few Taxidermy videos from time to time. There not extremely popular, but it's just part of what we do here at God's Country Hunting and Fishing!!!
I have not found a single video yet that talks about the dry preserve method and how to do correctly. You mentioned that is how you do yours. I have done a couple by tanning but would like to learn this method as it can be quicker and just as good (if you do right). Any pointers on the process?

I dropped the link in the comments to the video this is done and explained on. I apologize this was when we first started UA-cam and I probably didn't set up our tags correctly to help in search engines. I'll go back and make sure dry preserve is in there. Hope this helps. We're gonna be adding some more taxidermy in 2024, we just don't do it all the time like I used to. God Bless!!
this was very interesting and cool to watch..the way you did that nose was crazy..great video bro..looking forward to the next part!👍
Thanks. Hoping more people find these type videos interesting because it's a huge part of our outdoors world. You'll see that in the next video. I started self teaching taxidermy in 2003. Some sportsmen and women just appreciate the end product on the wall, but their is a lot of work and detail in a good quality mount. As I get time to mix in a few of these videos, I will for you guys. Thanks again for watching and thanks for the continued support!!
Any benefits in dry preserve vs wet tan? That’s the first time I’ve seen the epoxy nose pad, I’ve seen dimples added with other products but that’s interesting
I use drips of epoxy for elk nose pads. It's actually personal preference on methods, but with dry preserve you get crushed moth balls or such included, so it sort of bug proofs them. It's faster and I control the hide instead of shipping to a tannery. I got some been done 20 years with no change in there condition
@@godscountryhuntingfishing1638 gotcha! Great job and thanks for the info
