Country Music Icon Mark Miller on the Late Brook Berringer: 'He Looked Like a Hollywood Movie Star'

The death of Brook Berringer, the University of Nebraska Quarterback who died in a tragic plane crash in 1986, shook the sports world. Mark Miller of country band Sawyer Brand, took Berringer’s death particularly hard as the two had become close friends. Mark recalls his friendship with Berringer, the heartbreaking phone call about his death, and “The Nebraska Song” he wrote in Berringer’s honor while speaking with Marty Smith.

Wow... I remember that day when Brook Passed...I still have my ticket...25 years later .. that I had for the National Championship Ring Ceremony that was to be held in Memorial Stadium. Thank you Mark for sharing your memories and your heart and tears with all of us in Nebraska.❤️😪

Yes, that was Max Jones Fieldhouse in Goodland for his funeral. I was there. The hardest story I ever had to cover in 10 years at KSNK TV.
