    Nearly six million Assyrian Christians dot the world.
    Mesopotamia is the homeland of the Assyrians. The famous royal cities of the Assyrians, Ashur, Nimrud (Kalhu), Arbela, Dur-Sharrukin and Nineveh were built in it. The Assyrians ruled for approximately 1,300 years - from about 2000 B.C. to 612/10 BC - in northern Mesopotamia an ancient landscape between the Euphrates and Tigris rivers. A clear reference to the existence of the Assyrians, on the other hand, can already be found in the Old Testament (1st Book of Moses 2:14).
    There it says:
    * “… the name of the third river is the Tigris, which flows east of Assyria. The fourth river is the Euphrates..."

    As a Portuguese very interested in the peoples and cultures of the world, especially the Assyrians, I find sometimes a conflict between these terms:
    Assyrian
    Chaldean
    Syriac
    Aramean
    As a external part I could not understand that conflict, and the research that I did wasn’t helpful. So could someone help me?
    I wanted to know the difference in Ethnicity terms, not about the Language. I mean, why a Christian from Syria claims to be Syriac and not Assyrian, if the both communities could spoke the same language. Anyways it’s very confusing to me, but I really wanted to know all of it.

      Avante Lvsitania yeah I’m also very interested in this topic, you’re right it’s quiet confusing to be honest

    • @BinaryTechnique
      @BinaryTechnique 6 років тому +10

      Avante Lvsitania Bro its too much info to explain, please visit Assyrian Syriacs UA-cam Channel for detailed information but here's a brief explanation.... Everyone was Assyrian, then foreigners started to influence our people, some broke off to the Catholic Church in Rome but because they considered the Assyrian Church of the East as heretics, Rome bestowed upon them the fake title of Chaldean to start a new church called Chaldean Catholic Church in the 16th Century. Now they want to identify as a separate ethnic group. The Arameans are brand new, started in the 1960s in Lebanon when the Assyrian Church of the East published an article criticizing the Orthodox Churches efforts to influence politicians.

    • @avantelvsitania3359
      @avantelvsitania3359 6 років тому +2

      Binary-Technique thank you for your explanation. Don’t get me wrong, but I just want to be really clarified about this fantastic subject. In the diverse ethnographic map of the Middle East, you are not Semitic, nor Turkic, nor Iranic. You guys, are the indigenous people of the region, the descendants of the Ancient Civilizations, who had converted to Christianity. These are facts. But here’s my doubt: You are all part of a single ethnic group, or form separate ethnicities.
      I ask that because the Chaldeans argue that while the Assyrians descent literally from ancient Assyrian and other peoples of the northern Mesopotamia, they descent from South Mesopotamia, and the ancient peoples of Babylon, forming a separate ethnicity. In the same way, the Arameans said that they descent from the ancient peoples of Syria and Phoenicia.
      Anyways, I am probably repeating myself, but the point is just that: you were and are a single people that were divided and segregated by centuries of foreign rule, or in the other hand you are a group of ancient peoples united by faith and some way culture, against the government of foreign powers?

    • @Tru162
      @Tru162 5 років тому +11

      To put it simply they’re all religious denominations at least for the Chaldean and Assyrians I consider myself ethically Assyrian but my my religious denomination is the Chaldean catholic church at the end of the day we’re all Suraya this is our language our culture and our ethnicity..

    • @barnosho1611
      @barnosho1611 5 років тому +10

      @@avantelvsitania3359 I myself am part of the """Aramean""" group of Assyrians. What I mean by that is that the only Assyrians that claim to be Arameans are the ones that are from Turkey, speak Western-Syriac and go to the Syriac Orthodox Church, and I'm one of those people.
      In our own language, in all dialects, we've called ourselves "Syrians" for a very long time: Syrian would be the literal translation of the word Suryoyo or Suraya, depending on the dialect one speaks. It is generally accepted that the term Syria(n) came from Assyria(n). It is also a fact that both of our dialects came from a common language group that is the Assyrian dialect of Aramaic, which was spoken in the Neo-Assyrian Empire after the REAL ARAMEANS were conquered by the ancient Assyrians. It is then that the Assyrian and Aramean populations started mixing, along with their languages. This does not make us Aramean, since Assyrian was a nationality, and Arameans became part of the Neo-Assyrian Empire.
      Stupid people have been using selective evidence to try to make it seem as if we actually are Arameans, because we speak an Aramaic dialect for example.

    Unfortunately assyrians are too scared to take up arms to defend their lands under the flag of peace, that is the biggest mistake. Israel didn’t get their lands back peacefully neither did george Washington declare independence peacefully. Freedom is not Free. Rather than dancing at every wedding assyrians Chaldeans and syriacs must fight to get their lands back and not just wait for some super power country to get their lands for them.
