Proof that Kula World will not be forgotten. A true dream game. From now on, this will be the video I'll be sharing with my friends to show them Kula World (next to the Matthewmatosis's review), it has got very few mistakes (and these aren't even that important tbh) and provides a plenty of meaningful information about the game. I can't believe it took me over two months to discover this video.
Great video! Kula World/Quest did have an interesting development history. Me and Dan (Johannes’ father) from Twice A Man are currently working on an official remix album of the game titled Kula World 20. Some tracks are available at SoundCloud.
I also had future plans to do some things with the game soundtracks I loved as a child, including the Kula World. Would love to check them out if you could send a link.
This, to me, certainly the best puzzle game of all time and one of the best ps1 games. The game was also a technical feat with an immersive atmosphere and music. I was blown away by the lack of any loading between levels (in an era of lengthy ps1 loading screens!), and I remember taking out the game disc while playing the game, and the game would still continue for 5 more levels! I reckoned that the levels are either tiny or heavily compressed so that five levels would fit in ps1's paltry memory (2+1 megs) and they would keep streaming as you go in the game with no loading screen ever witnessed. Possibly there might be some loading hidden during the save screens. Either the game is in my retro archive forever. BRILLIANT WORK.
Lovely video, I played this game when I was like 5 after acquiring the demo from a local store's magazine in Poland. I could never remember it's name and its been part of my dreams for over a decade (very fitting), I always wondered if the ball moving in a beach/ocean like world was just an imagination... but I finally found the game yesterday. Big childhood nostalgia trip
I hope we get a remastered, or remake, for PC of Kula World. It's such a classic that deserves to be played even today! It probably makes even more sense today than it did when it was released. Pussle and platformer games are bigger than ever so.
Play it in DuckStation with HD res, SSAA, PGXP, and widescreen hack. It looks great. I'm definitely putting the game on my living room emulation system for my kids. It's a damn good puzzle game
that was one of the finest video game documentaries i've ever seen. I was one of those who played it on a demo disc back in the day and learning more about it from this video I'm stunned by the rich history this game has! I'm subbed, Keep it up!
Great video dude. this game was so loved by me and my friends back in the day! I'm now replaying it on Duckstation so here I am watching videos about it 25yrs later lol
this video was highly informative and i thank you A LOT for all of these informations. I've always been loving Kula world, and i'm looking forward to buy a copy for myself
Amazing, everything here is just amazing. The legacy and story behind the game, the game itself of course, and last but not least, the amount of work put into the video itself. Nice. Stupid UA-cam Algorithm, notice this video.
Very cool! Happy to stumble upon this video! :) As I kid, I was close friends with Jens and Jespers youngest brother. I remember them sitting in front of their Atari 520 STs :) Jens moved to where I live not long ago, just a block away, so we say hi. Hopefully I will get an opportunity to tell him about this!
Excellent video and a very great game! I was wondering if you had any more of the footage you showed off at 7:05, and if you'd be willing to perhaps post the full clip somewhere?
Fantastic video, very insightful. A shame it doesn't have more views, but then again Kula World was very niche. In the EU I discovered it when buying Spyro the Dragon which came with the "Winter '98 Releases" demo disc.
Yessss mate, love the cut-aways to the big screen! Nicely paced and clear and concise, plus top marks for Ninja Game Den mention (gone but not forgotten RIP) Defo in the camp of having it on demo disk, though for some reason as a kid when I got bored with all the demo disk collection we lined them up and used them as target practice for an air gun. Wish I had kept them now haha. Hit you up with a sub my man! Look forward to checking out some more stuff.
This is very cool! How the HECK did you get all this detailed information around the development of the game? I'm a childhood friend of some of the guys at Game Design Sweden and even I did not know about some of this stuff :)
Hello! So I know this video is about a year old but I was wondering how you were able to get those still shots at 4:44, 4:49, 4:56, etc. I was also wondering how you were able to get that extremely early beta footage of the game from that demo showcase. Thank you!
Kula World was on the demo disc I received when I bought my PS1 in 1998. I loved it! But I never got around to playing the full game... Still hoping to find an emulated version for PC, or better yet, a full-on sequel :)
Man we need kula world remastered for ps4. Yeh the prices are ridiculous on ebay thats why i downloaded the rom instead. I wish my CEX store had Kula World. Might download the japanese version just to check out the secret levels. Awesome vid felt like i went back to 1998
I play Marble Blast, and I make levels for this game, will all the aspects: textures, skyboxes, concept. And then I thought: "what if I make a level pack that gives an homage to Kula World? What if I made Marble Blast levels that are textured like Kula World and captures the atmosphere of the game?"
Sharaopolis really should look at this game at some point considering how impressive it is in terms of graphics, especially since they didn't realize that it was pushing the console to its limits.
You made an awesome video man! This is my favorite game of all time! I wonder how you got some of that footage, i never seen it before altough i watched hundreds of kula world videos on youtube. Also if you still like the game, download cubosphere. I remade all the kula world levels in that game, you can find a trailer and the download on my channel!
Just so that you know, you're not the only person in the World for whom this game is their favourite GOAT. I remember talking to you before, I think. I've been trying to stir up some discussion over the maximum possible score obtainable in Kula World, with the consideration of one particular glitch...
@@skarkris Yeah man the game is just awesome and i love it even more when i discover new things like this. I don't know if we talked before, but i saw your video on the points glitch where you jump next to enemies, kudos to you for discovering that. Also i made a video a week ago about 3 kula world demos, one of them i never saw on youtube, so chrck it out if you want :)
I just wonder why it's not in the PlayStation plus (premium) catalog. I'm dying to play this again on my ps5. (it was on my nephew's ps1 that I first played it). The weird thing is that there's a video circulating called "the gravity trickster" and was made as if Sony would release it in 2021 somewhere. But it's no longer sure. I just don't understand why this game isn't re-released digitally in some form. It was so enjoyable.
I have amazing PS1 memories from this game. Still play it sometimes and i’ve never been able to finish it 8:02 and yeah! This is how i discovered the game too!
I like the ball but the Bunny is better, they should have gone with a half way and given it cute eyes. I wonder what the hell is up with Netbaby, the website hasn’t been updated in 20 years and I have no clue how to open any of the games but someone is paying to keep it online, why?

One of the most original, innovative, intelligent, and truly timeless games ever designed.

Wow, that's awesome, thanks for the tip! I'll check em out :)
I also had future plans to do some things with the game soundtracks I loved as a child, including the Kula World. Would love to check them out if you could send a link.
oh I just realised, you sir are the original maker of the music!
After 1 year of retrogmaing, this is the best puzzle game I've ever played.
One of the best PS1 games ever made in my opinion which I still own and play.
I'd love to get my hands on a copy of another fine PS1 puzzle game called Kurushi.

This game is pure nostalgia. I used to just like to stare at the backgrounds. There’s a charm to old graphics.
Very informative video, didn't know about region differences, now I know which version to play :)
Great video, that went more in-depth than expected!
Fantastic video, very insightful. A shame it doesn't have more views, but then again Kula World was very niche. In the EU I discovered it when buying Spyro the Dragon which came with the "Winter '98 Releases" demo disc.
Great video! One of my top 5 PS1 games.
This game was so trippy. I only ever played it on the PS1 demo disc and I’ve always wanted to play the full game

Very interesting video! This game is such an underrated gem.
Finding this on the demo disc changed my life, would love for a new version on ps5 with sandbox tools

Great video, too bad you didn't continue with the channel. Very informative stuff
Something that was missed from this video. Is that this game also made it on to the 7th and final "demo1" disk, that came packaged with ps1.
This was a very good watch, this game has always stuck in my head back from that demo disc in the day
Thankyou
Great video, well presented information!
The gravity trickster, a kula world remake or a sequel is coming this year! Check it out!
Thank you for making this video
My favourite game. Aztec song is wonderful
My favourite its the Egypt one

Brilliant game
Completed 100%
That would be impressive to see it speedran on AGDQ.
I’m literally playing it now for the first time in forever
Man, I had no clue Puzzle Dimension was by one of the Kula World devs! I've had it on Steam for ages
Kula World is a 3D puzzle platforming game with gravity mechanics released many years before Super Mario Galaxy.

This was truly a lightning-in-a-bottle kind of game, I just wish it had more success so that they would have given it a proper sequel.
A new one was supposed to be released this year but is titled ' gravity trickster' on the PS4
What is 3d studio dos?
It's a 3D modelling software for the old DOS operating system. beforesandafters.com/2020/06/04/a-visual-history-of-3ds-max/
