- World 250cc Bike GP legend, Reinhold Roth from Germany, has sadly passed away. We pay tribute to Reinhold as we take a look back at his stunning victory in the 1989 Dutch 250cc Grand Prix.
Anybody who could win grand prix's on two strokes is a legend in my book

Not to mention what the tyres of the day were not
Anyone who could finish a race was a bloody hero, especially on a 500.

Über 30 Jahre mit den Unfallfolgen gekämpft und jetzt doch verloren. Reinhold war einer meiner Helden in der Kindheit. Unglaublich schnell auf dem Moped und bei den Interviews immer klare Kante gezeigt. Danke Reinhold!
Ich habe noch ein Ausgabe der MO Zeitschrift mit einem Poster von ihm.

I will always recall his days on the HB Honda 250. He was always in the mix for. a podium. Some of the most competitive racing ever witnessed. God rest his soul.

Excellent tribute to a great rider thanks Duke Video. Reinhold Roth would have been a champion but if i remember rightly he got badly hurt in a crash. Can't beat the sound of those 2 strokes.

Stoke Mandeville 1990. I was told he was a bike racer.

@@roberthiggins6401 it’s a bastard of an injury. My grandad could only move his eyes following an agricultural accident. My Dad went to visit him on Xmas Day and my grandad quoted lines from an old song to him, “I’m tired of living but scared of dying”.
My Dad was a granite-hard ex Rugby League player but that day I saw him sob like a baby.

Those were the days. Honda, Yamaha & Aprilia had works teams whilst independents such as Armstrong & EMC fielded their own designs alongside. The racing was great & the machinery was more varied & interesting as a result than Moto 2...
Sad news...I remember him and his fatal race on YU GP...pity, was a very good rider!

Those 250s were all about corner speed and keeping the revs up. The tires those boys ran back then were nothing like the tires available today. You really had to have a good feel for what the tire was doing at lean and when coming back on the throttle. The 500s were totally different beasts. Those things were animals, the goal was to get the gearbox right so that the bike would just start to come onto the pipe after that bike was well off of full lean angle, many times completing the corner steering with the throttle. There was a lot of riders who dominated 250s but struggled at 500s. Roth and Kocinski were two of the best, absolute artists on a motor bike.
