AMOS - Writing a simple game

- In this longer than usual video, I take you through my journey of writing a game in Amos, converted from a very similar ZX Spectrum game which I made a video about last year. • Spectrum Basic to AMOS
I look at the concept, the rough on the fly design, coding, and graphics and sound creation. It’s not pretty, but it’s fun and functional. 😅
All aspects of game functionality have been drawn from previous Amos coding tutorials on my UA-cam channel, so if you follow along with the coding in this video, you’ll be able to find the relevant tutorial video in my Amos playlist • AMOS coding
The code for this game and relevant assets can be downloaded for free from my website: www.ya-retro.c...
Note that the game is not compiled, and you will need Amos Pro to run it.
If you enjoy this and get some use out of my Amos videos, please like the video and if you wish, I can be supported via my Ko-fi account ko-fi.com/yawn...
Thank you to all my wonderful supporters to date. 😁
Thank you for watching this, and I’ll be back soon with more retro-computing videos, with an Amiga bias.
Stay safe, and keep it retro.
YA.
I really enjoyed this, nice little game too. When I was 15 I saved up for Amos and was on the point of buying it when I decided that maybe programming wasn't something I'd be any good at. I regret that decision, if I had taken the plunge I would have discovered how much fun coding can be 33 years earlier than I did. Happy Christmas to you and happy New Year too ;)
Thank you so much for your kind comment. 😊
I think we can all look back at things we wish we had done, but if we get there in the end then that's a good thing.
Have a wonderful Christmas and New year too. 🎄
What a great little game. I love the graphics.
🎅Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year everyone🎅
@@frankowalker4662 Many thanks Frank. Have a safe and happy Christmas too. 🎄
Thank you and Merry Christmas! Much love from Mexico. thank you for all the wonderful Amos videos. I know I am 30 yerars late to the party but starting to learn Amos now. Because why not :D
And a very Merry Christmas to you. Thank you for your lovely comment. Knowing that people get some use out of these videos makes it all the more worthwhile me making them. 😎
Wow, more costume changes than a Mariah Carey concert! 🤣
Merry Xmas to you and the missus, too!
But not as good looking. 😆
Have a great Christmas Chris, both you and your good lady. 😎
I wish there was an easier way to import Spectrum basic games than typing them in. I really enjoyed this video and think it would be awesome to do more "snorkification" (angelification?) of Spectrum type in games for the Amiga. Merry Christmas!
I agree, but sometimes I enjoy just typing things in again. It can be quite relaxing… if you enjoy that sort of thing. 😅
Glad you enjoyed the video, and thank you for the comment. Tempted to do ore of this sort of thing, but Snorkers does have this kind of thing nailed down. 😎
I used to love Amos. I had amos 3d, the compiler and amos pro - so many hours pouring over source code, trying to optimise for slight performance gains
It’s a great language isn’t it? I still need to get Amos 3D installed… that will be another video someday. 😎
As always: Nice video. And I'm on your side: PPaint is more practical to use than DPaint. I love DPaint, started with DP II back in the 80s, but PPaint has some nice Quality of life enhancements. So I mainly use that. Though I'm not an artist either.
Thank you for the comment, and thanks for making it that far into the video. 😁
I was concerned it was a bit too long and not sure folks would get that far. Yes same here, I started with DPaint but just find PPaint so much more intuitive and accessible.
Thanks again. 😎
