I love Matt Slater, he does a great job breaking large complex things down into ways I can understand

I appreciate how clearly, and in an understandable speed, Matt Slater is speaking. Always easy to follow his words

This is a demonstration of why The Athletic (akin to the Premier League in football) has become the might of sports journalism. Outstanding episode of the podcast 👏

You guys laugh but the Premier League is MUCH more accessible to Americans than those in the UK. I've watched every Crystal Palace game since 2014 just paying for my usual cable and a $60/year Peacock subscription (RIP NBC gold). I've never had a black out, I didn't even know that was a thing! Also, games are at a very comfortable am time slot here in the states where it doesn't over lap much with other domestic sports.
It makes a lot of sense that future investors are American- the game is facilitated to us better than to their domestic audience.

given that a lot of US sports implement a blackout approach to some degree I'm suprised you didn't realise it happens to english football.

Any major sports team owner is someone who has sampled pretty much everything money can buy and has gotten so accustomed to it that they become bored. They are also usually hyper competitive personalities who tend to not be anywhere close to elite athletes, so one way they can experience that life is to buy a major club and literally own other elite athletes and then compete against other rich people for bragging rights, respect and in a way fame and adoration. At least that's my view.

The biggest thing about the Premier League is the global reach. Status, profile for the owner or organization. Marketing from the Premier League is endless if you really think about it. There will always be investment in the Premier league. Nevermind the unadulterated glory 🙌

They'll be a price to pay and the first price is the maverick. The guy that kids will have to go to UA-cam to be inspired then only to have what inspired them coached out of them. Be careful what you wish for. Robotically rinsing to the point of robot football makes for dull entertainment at the cost of the fear of losing. Could end up like ice hockey.

It's crazy that pension funds could get involved. Absolutely against that. That can't be right!

It’s always been an arms race, starting with the big industrialist or phrlanthepist of the city, to the biggest person in the region, to plcs, to consortiums to sovereign wealth funds. Groups are always trying to prove the might. It’s all in proportion. Who is the next group up?

The Premier League is the only international sports competition on earth. It happens to football, the world’s favorite team sport, its tribalism is Global. And its best consumed live. It will only grow and attract more investment. Look at the number of UA-cam channels and related careers that have been created all over the world. The technology boom in audio/video electronics and all the other global enterprises that link back to it. Premier League football is depended on by so many across the globe and it’s only going to get bigger.

Eventually the model will morph into single club cities in Liverpool, Glasgow, Manchester, London and Aston Villa.

Man U bought the top scorer in the league every year for 15 years - now it’s becoming more of a level playing field everyone’s whining about it. Do you want capitalism or not? If you do, take your ManUre medicine and deal with it.
