Chief love your work, how about an episode on how to stay cool out in the bush..........primitive and new school...........dig a hole both for staying in and for water storage.........putting your hand in a running cool stream.......cooling off before going to sleep.........waking up hot af........god bless
Camp spacing...........where to put latrine, food, animal butchering et cetera..............keeping you and your shit clean, importance of hygeine in camping and a shtf scenario
I got an idea I ain't never seen on yt before...............using ash as an insulator, saw on primitive technology...........to line hollow, either brick or wooden structure, and then using ice during the winter time to create an ice box...........just an idea
I've watched every episode of The Red Green Show, where duct tape is the handymans secret weapon...but they never used it as a fire starting source....very cool 😎
Repetition is the mother of all knowledge. Your fire starting methodologies is a really valuable pieces of advice. I think I will add some fat-wood sticks to my outdoor equipment as well, truly inspired from your midweek videos. Thanks for your stubbornness to still hanging in there on UA-cam, Shawn!
Among the MANY things I appreciate about your presentations are your honesty & realistic approach. Some channels present survival skills in the most ideal conditions; but the reality of most survival situations is that conditions will be horrible. I appreciate your service to our country; your investment of time & energy in preparation for yopur presentations; & your experience & expertise in the trenches & in the woods. At age 82, I always look forward to learning new skills! May God bless you & your family.
Another outstanding video for the books. Great ideas and solutions for trying to start a fire in a wet surrounding. As usual, you rock Shawn, and your videos always are entertaining and informative AF!!
That is so much fun to watch. I very much appreciate you saying, "Truth be told, it took me three times to find the best way." You are a fantastic influence and instructor. Thank you for all you do.
The teaching aspect of the mid week videos combined with the more physical application on Sunday is OUTSTANDING AF! Love where your taking the channel.
Hey there sugar bear 🧸 love ❤️ your videos!!! Please don't ever stop making many countless and numerous more!!!! 🥰🤠🥰🧸🦣🐻 And Howdy Howdy from DeadHorse Alaska sweetheart 💞!!!!
Shawn, you seem to the one on You Tube that holds the knife steady and pulls the ferroceum rod away from the bundle. Best method because there is zero chance of hitting/disturbing the bundle. Thanks for showing this technique.
Never miss a video but this one really caught my attention and I had to replay part of it, you said Stater Bros lol I’ve been working for them for 34 years. I had to replay that part of the video, awesome lol.
And the bad assery continues! Great job corporal. All your efforts are appreciated, maybe not by YT, but for many. That's why I always give a like and comment. Thanks.
I've watched you for the last 7+ years. And I'm glad to see the last few weeks you look like your having fun doing this again. I like the buils too so keep it up. I'm stoked AF.
@@recall5811 some people are are just tools watching the same thing over and over. Not even trying to to do the skills. Those of us that do, or hell even try. Enjoy the old school mixed with the out of the box approach.
Good video my friend. Btw my granddaughter made her shelter Sunday afternoon with no physical help from me. I just cheered her on. This granddaughter of mine thinks you can rope the moon. Pard we appreciate you for what you do.🐕🦺🇺🇲
My uncle ran a timber skidder , when he found good pine logs , he skid them out to where we could get to them with our saws and pickups . Made fair money cutting that stuff into 8 inch blocks , some of the rich pine maybe 14 to 16 inches through, we kept the knotty stuff to give to grandpa and granny , all the buyers wanted was what would split easy .
fatwood is great, i chop it into smaller sticks to keep in old altoids tin along with a small ferro rod and small piece of old hacksaw blade for striking. nice compact reliable fire kit i keep on me anytime im out in the wild
That duct tape trick saved my ass one time when I got stuck out in an unexpected heavy downpour and I learned that from you. I tell everyone about how you can set duct tape on fire even in the rain now and I never leave home without a little duct tape with me, even if it's just to do something in the city. I got a fire with a ferro rod before and was pretty proud of myself since I had no fat wood so I used saw dust and it wasn't all that dry either. I made a bow drill but then it turns out that I can't really do that with my completely separated shoulder and, while I can do most things with either hand, I couldn't do the bow drill and it hurt my other shoulder anyway. So I tried the hand drill and I did get the wood black and quite warm but, unfortunately, the day was also warm and so I overheated before the wood and had to stop. I'm going to try again next time it's cool enough for me to go out to my fort again but I'm sure I'll get it because I definitely was on the right track with the hand drill. We'll see.
Brilliant 🔥 went back several times to catch parts again. You really had it goin on with your bow drill and fatwood birdsnest. Loved the ducttape too. 👍
Where I live we have white pines. You said it exactly the right way, "White pines have some sap in them,". Yeah, but not much in the way of fatwood. In fact, I'm going to go ahead and say that white pine sucks for fatwood. I have walked my woods, looked for rotten pine stumps and wrestled out the 'taproot'. Even though the taproot is still pretty solid there isn't enough sap/turpentine in it to light worth a crap. Not even shavings - with a lighter. I have chopped and sawed into several downed pine trees and, right at the junction where some branches meet the tree (some branches but not all) there might be a nugget of fatwood smaller than a man's fist. Really not worth it and not a shade of the store-bought fatwood sticks. What I have gotten from the pines around here, though, is if there is an injury to the tree and it has pieces of hardwned sap around it then that stuff is a great secondary fire lighter. I say secondary because when it is hard like I am talking about I can only get it started with flame - either a lighter, matches, etc.or by lighting something else like maybe a flash tinder with a burning lens, ferro rod, etc. Once that hardened sap is lit, though, it is some serious stuff that melts and becomes about as much like napalm as that Gorilla tape you showed.
another great mid week,,as always i learn somethin each week even if it is something i have seen before..1 thing i would like to know,,can you make a tinder bow and block out of fat wood..until next week ,,semper fi from southern delaware

Finally, a simple explanation of what fatwood is and where to find it. Awesome video❗️👍

I used to live in Georgia and it wasn't nothing to go walking and find a piece of fat-lightered wood. We mostly had slash pine

I like to carefully make a small pile of shavings off the ferro rod which adds a nice boost to the tinder 💥
Best bushcraft survival channel on YT
Really good CPL, thanks!
🔥
7:51 the old school method. Gotta be sure that you really drill that hole fast enough. 😉😁👍
Awesome video per usual. Alternate title, Corporal Og make 🔥 🍺🫵🤟🇨🇦🫡🇺🇸🤟🫵🍺🔥
That "one shot job" that you are good at when using your ferro-rod. Great mid-week vid man. 👍 I need to get much better at the bow drill.
Cpl Kelly, you make it look so EZ.
All great ideas.
Thx Shawn
YEAH!

Next time Corporal thanks again👍🏽
Great content, we appreciate your effort. BZ
Excellent video! Back to basics!!
If it ain't rainin' we ain't complainin'😊
Excellent video thanks
You can even create artificial fatwood: cooking pine in wax for some minuts.
A very good reminder for me!
Make the most out of my gear!
Candle wax?
Another good idea is save your dryer lint. One spark lights a ball of it instantly
👍👍👍 Awesome 👌 ...Alan in 🇨🇱

Best bow driller on UA-cam. It appears one of the secrets is proper prep of the materials.
He makes it look easy.
Great topic and appreciate the honesty about how many times it took to get it right. Not many people show that it’s not perfect every time .
Fanwood is everywhere, anyone out in the wilderness can find it I say get out now and experiment
Brilliant 🔥 went back several times to catch parts again. You really had it goin on with your bow drill and fatwood birdsnest. Loved the ducttape too. 👍
try using cotton wool when using the bow or doritos with feras rod
I like that you make sure that viewers know the trick is in mastering the small details
Great video Shawn! Keep up the great work
Midweek Funday! That bow drill, was awesome. Keep up the great work 👍
Well done sir
Good information to know outstanding af

Lit AF 💪
Old 11Bravo here..the best fire 🔥starter in an emergency is military trioxane period...this is my goto emergency fire starter..Vince g 11B infantry.
Not many people will have that on them but they might have a bit of duct tape or find some fat wood 👍
