Winter Camping in a Snowstorm w/ my Dog: It Snows This Much in Arizona??!!

  • UPDATE Aug 4th, 2021 - Sierra has been diagnosed with cancer. For those interested in helping with her treatment, I've set up the following page - www.gofundme.com/f/help-sierr.... Here is another cold weather throwback video to a really nice storm which hit while I was winter camping in Arizona. My two biggest snowstorms this past season were from Arizona, thought Colorado would have provided the most snow but that wasn't the case. LOVE camping in these tall ponderosa pines, such awesome trees! Hope you all have a great Sunday, thanks for tuning in. ~ Brian & Sierra

DIFFERENCE BETWEEN OFF-GRID AND SELF SUFFICIENT HOMESTEADING
Definition of "Off-Grid": Off-the-grid or off-grid is a characteristic of buildings and a lifestyle designed in an independent manner without reliance on one or more public utilities. The term "off-the-grid" traditionally refers to not being connected to the electrical grid, but can also include other utilities like water, gas, and sewer systems, and can scale from residential homes to small communities.
Self-sufficient homesteading means needing no outside help in satisfying one's basic needs, especially about the production of food, and homesteading means living a lifestyle of self-sufficiency. So by those definitions, the key to homesteading is learning to be self-sufficient.

@Tom Jones and & @Off Grid Backcountry Living Yes. Please maintain your chainsaw & tighten chain. TRIGGER WARNING: My dear friend who lived an off grid life as a farmer in summer & skiing teacher in the NH White Mountains in those months (lived in his vehicle in winter and/or tent), one summer while cutting wood on his land/farm that he owned w/his brother, had the chainsaw jump back & cut open his abdomen/pelvis. He died alone in the woods bleeding out completely.
His brother found him the next day & was never the same after that. Not.at.all. Stay safe, friend.
PS To end on a happier note, Sierra is a Riot. I love the way she plays in the snow like Kamp does.
Speaking of Riot, do you sub to Lex and Riot? Very underrated channel. Lex is beautiful inside & out, has a wicked dry wit, curses on the regular (it’s been scientifically proven that those who curse are more brilliant than the rest of us-lol). Her vlogs tend to be funny and/or wildly informative w/beautiful drone shots (she’s even certified) and her editing skills are great; serious DIYer; lives in a 6x12 off-road converted cargo camper trailer with dual wheels pulled by an F-250 Diesel engine.
Everyone who subs to her just says they wish her vlogs were longer. She also has a blog at Lex and Riot dot com. Riot is her incredibly well-trained Malinois who looks a lot like Sierra; she trained her up from the time Riot was a pup bc that was her business. Sold it after her husband died from an accidental OD. Then hit the road Jack. Gimme a 2nd to find a good vlog of hers to share w/you.

Good Morning Anais, I leaned how to surf at Narragansett Beach in college so I've been out in your area. Loved all the history and cobblestone streets in Providence. I would love to come back out in the fall to see all the leaves change. One day I'll do that, it's a bucket list item. Regarding my cast iron, most of the time I"m able to wipe them clean of any food/debris with simply a paper towel. However, messier meals usually require me boiling water in the skillets to free most/all of the food stuck to it. Then I'll come back through and hit it with a light coating of olive oil or something similar. For cooking I've found unsalted butter works as a great nonstick remedy for cooking as well as any cooking oils. About the only thing I highly advise against is having standing water in your cast iron as this will make surface rust appear quickly. Hope this info helps, have a great day! ~ Brian

I also have the vestibule which I absolutely love for putting chairs in in order to sit and take boots on and off. I do also have the stove and I have never used it. @OffGridBackcountryAdventures  2 роки тому +3

Hi James, this tent is the Big Horn III from Cabela's but unfortunately they stopped making it two years ago when Bass Pro bought them. For the stove, I have use the DX Model from Four Dog Stoves. Disregard "Poopie Pants", shitheads like that seem to be more common on here but I just shadow ban them on my channel so you and others don't have to deal with people like that. Hit me up with any additional questions, I'm happy to share details.

Love your videos, especially when you focus on the actual survival of keeping the tent safe, cooking and the firewood. Just wondering if it wouldn't be better to keep the freshly cut, new wood in the vestibule/foyer in single layers to dry out instead of piled up together all wet and snowy?

Weird. You used to have two bunks. Now you have only one, and Sierra always seems to be sleeping in it.

Hey Eric, it's probably the 14 trolls I've told off in the past week. I go to great lengths to shadow ban those people and sometimes give them a piece of my mind so I imagine those are the people who dislike this sort of stuff. Generally speaking though, the YT crowd is great - especially compared to other social media. I love sharing these adventures with everyone, thanks for tuning in. ~ Brian

Your videos always bring me such happiness-the music, the food, the simplicity. Am a winter camping Patreon now. How do I communicate with you? No worries. Im 61 & married. Just need some advice. Have some info/ideas for you. I promise not to be a pest; that’s one adjective no one’s ever described me with. Kind-hearted is more like it (not to toot my own horn).

@@OffGridBackcountryAdventures Oh wow, Brian. I’m psyched. Thnx so much. Am on East Coast & not a morning person (same as you). Thurs & Friday afternoons or evenings, whenever you feel best, works for me.
How does it work? Do you email me? Text? Call? Did I give my number when signing up for Crowdcast? Can’t recall. Pls let me know what time (Eastern Daylight Savings time) & how we’ll be chatting. I’m looking fwd to it also.

    @marirose19 2 роки тому

Brian, Tom Jones mentioned to tighten your chain on your chainsaw which I seconded with deets of a true story abt how my friend died when it jumped back.
Anyway said I’d give you a link to one of my favorite & most underrated UA-camrs w/channel named Lex and Riot. Lex-beautiful, dry wit, smart as a whip, major DIYer, & great editor & videographer. More abt her elsewhere under Tom Jones comment. Riot is her very well-trained Malinois who she trained bc she owned a biz she sold before hitting the road. Riot reminds me a lot of Sierra but has more energy which is typical of Malinois dogs.
Anyway here’s a good link to a Lex and Riot vlog. She also writes a blog you can sign up for at lexandriot dot com. If you want to learn more abt Riot just search Lex and Riot on YT and then write in Riot’s name. Riot is a girl & a hoot. Both you and Lex are so great w/your dogs.
She sometimes writes things across the screen to clarify btw. Link here: ua-cam.com/video/YMTdSf8t0kM/v-deo.html

340,000 but it's worth mentioning I put a Jasper rebuilt engine in my truck at 290,000. The 2005 Tacomas were known for having a weak head gasket and mine finally gave out at 290,000 miles.
