Welcome back, Kaleb! You have an enormous job with your house, on top of a real life, so take the time you need. I'm so excited about the color! Your beautiful house is going to glow! I picked very similar colors for the trim on my 1907 red brick Four Square. I'm so impressed with your skills and your ability to learn skills, great job!

Don't worry about the gap! You have to do what's best for you. We get to see really nice impressions of Mexico City because of it!
As always the progress you made for the house is beautiful!
You have one of the best channels on UA-cam, not only because of your project and your dedication to it, but because of your and Kim's personalities. (And I'm sure because of your families too.)
Thank you for sharing everything with us.

For anyone who is going to use linseed oil. Buy the expensive stuff. The cheaper it is, the more impurities from the production it contains and that is what will mold. There's not if it will mold, it's just how soon. This is extra important when you "service" the paint with just oil when it has faded. What happens is that the linseed oil "breaks" and the pigments gets exposed. It's an easy fix to save you a lot of job so don't postpone it. The clearer the oil is, the better it is, quality costs and that's not the time so save money.

@@ah5721 That depends on what type of wood it is. But I look at the color and how the wood feels. If it's starting to look sad and feels dry it's time to treat the wood. If the wood has begun to crack you should consult with your local paint shop, they can advise you about thinning out the oil to make it penetrate and perhaps have some effect on the cracks. I have been taught not to use sandpaper, but if you do it don't use a sanding machine. Sand by hand in the direction of the fibers.

Hi Kaleb, good to see you on here. So there's this film from the mid 1980's called "Batteries Not Included." It was one of my favorite films for years, it still has a special place in my heart. It's hard to explain because it's far from being one thing. It's definitely a science fiction. There are several sub-plots but the unifying theme is all these people are living in a late 19th century building that a big construction company is trying to demolish. Without giving too much away, it's something that if you haven't watched, I think you should. Let me put it another way: If I hadn't watched "Batteries Not Included" when I was 8, I doubt I would be as fascinated with the history and preservation of old things. Cheers! Evan

Great to see you back, and busy! The paintwork looks like it's going to be very exciting.
I have to agree with you, Mexico City was/is stunning on so many levels, from the Mayan/Aztec underlay, and on to the succeding generations of Spanish and Mexican styles. All jumbled together, and bits of other styles creeping in and through. Wonderful food, wonderful people, great museums, universities and markets. And flowers everywhere. Wow just wow, and I was only there for a couple of weeks, I would love to visit again someday.

See you have nice Swedish linseed oil paint😊
    Represent!
Here in Sweden the proffessional painters that work with linsseed oil paints seem to profess two different schools.
One that says that 1st primer should be 30% paint and 70% solvent gum turpentine and then 2nd layer of primer 60% paint and 40% gum turpentine.
The other school says 1st primer 50/50 and 2nd 70% paint and 30% gum turpentine.
I do it also with two coats of primer but I dont really care to measure it that meticulously but somewhere in the ballpark.
Also many proffessionals that do work with it says gum turpentine should be the solvent but I use white spirit because it solves linseedoil paint and it seems to dry the same, and some that has mor experience than me says it is okay to use whit spirit.
I dont really know because I do not have suffucient experience to say whats what so I just tell you here what most pros says here in Sweden. And it is a quite common paint here. Lots and lots of houses and furniture is painted with boiled linseed oil paint here.
Dont know the prices in the US but here it costs almost like modern paints, mabye a coupleof dollars more depending on where it is purchased.

Interesting about the mildew growth. I didn't realize that was the reason for the lead. We saw some growth over on 1864 Restoration House's channel when they made their own linseed-oil based paint. Since they made it as pure as possible it doesn't have anything to prevent growth and their test patch is covered in mildew now after a fairly short time.

Doesn't the linseed oil help with the wood too?
Thanks for the video and the picture of Mexico City. I've only been to Juarez, Mexico. Very pretty city also. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼🌹

Linoljefärg! That is exactly the paint ( and from the same company) we are using for the renovation of our original 1950s kitchen. Our kitchen will be painted in a soft green colour and with white details. / Caroline in Stockholm, Sweden

Your exterior color choices are gorgeous Kaleb!! I have said that before when you showed the design, but seeing it in “person” really shows how beautiful the colors are!

You don’t need to justify gaps in your video output. In fact, having to wait a little extra time between videos has made me appreciate this one. The painting of those corbels is coming along nicely. Your lines are super crisp and the extra care you took in the painting is quite obvious. Lovely colors you’ve chosen. Thanks so much for all you do!
