The fall off is connected to its dispersion. If you have a light at a certain power for 50mm zoom then zoom the same amount to 200mm. It would produce more light with a narrower beam.
This and your recent video at the beach are the missing link for me with flash photography. I like natural light, however in backlit or low light scenes like this and the beach, the subjects can be dull and shapeless, and massive shadow recovery, and end up looking unnatural. The other option is to blast a 'perfect studio magazine cover style' flash and destroy the natural feeling. Your approach is flawless, and I am so excited to go and re-explore my favourite locations but with the dream light that I imagine in my mind. Thank you for sharing this with us all.
lol he explained the technique to take the photo. You should be able to figure it out based on your own scene. Pretty sure there was just a beauty dish on the flash.
The proper use of flash is the professional secret of photography. The day will come when your smartphone will be able to do off the phone flash photography.
I think inverse square is more about fall off than dispersion.

@@alanberry4919 I agree. But the law is about loss of intensity as distance increases.
@@isoawe1888 the reason it loses intensity is because of the spread of light. If you refocus the beam, the intensity would remain.
Hey Jiggie, do you ever come to the states? I'd love to take a class with you one day.
I do but usually just for a vacation :)

Poor video NO info on what flash was used? Power? Diffuser? Location of flash?

How did you record the viewfinder during this session ?
This is lovely. Learnt a lot
Thank you for your detailed video. The way you show steps by steps how to adjust your shutter speed and ISO makes the tip very easy to understand.
Glad it was helpful!
