    Completely agree with everything and especially about the winter boots, they are worth much more than they cost and last for many years

      I went with winter socks and some overshoes. First year I've ran them and it was a total gamechanger!
      Feet are bone dry after every ride
      A lot cheaper than new boots too

    Years ago, I splurged on a pair of Lake winter cycling boots. There’s nothing quite like them, warm and soft inside, bombproof outside. If you can accept the price and the weight, they are the best product.

    When I used a bike computer I mounted it under my seat so I would not spend all my time looking at it. All I cared about was my mileage anyways and after a while I pretty much had all my different rides memorized for distance anyways

    Agree on winter boots. I used overshoes for years and finally went for some NorthWave GTxs and have no regrets at all. Breath well and warm and dry enough for the UK. Ditto tyre gauge and DWR pants. I use a Quadlock for my iPhone. Yet to brave the fork service. Thanks, Anna🎄

    Sealskinz socks! Had plenty of success with them and a fraction the cost of the full winter shoes for at least 90% of the performance

    dedicated winter shoes are important because they need to be at least 1 size too big - plenty of room even with the thickest ski socks.

    I spent $$$ on a 1-gallon air compressor. Seems like a lot to spend on just getting tires and fork air but it makes the job so much easier. Especially bedding new tires.

    39 years mountainbiking now. Suspension? I did have a muslin cloth neck wrap, it kept the Scottish rain from running down your neck and doubled as a midge protection face wrap.

    Some head unit mounts can be turned around backwards. They clamp on the handlebar near the stem and put the bike computer right on the stem

    Definitely a multi tool with a chain breaker on it. You never know when you will need to shorten your chain to convert to a single speed do to a derailleur malfunction.

    For the lower fork service, I'd make sure I had an hour free. 15 minutes maybe for a pro mechanic who's doing them all the time. Otherwise, do your own servicing and repairs; It's pretty easy with the right tools and youtube videos to follow.

    You get a feel for tyre pressure by squeezing it anyway, I do own one, never used it, been riding for so long I just know if it's right for what I'm riding. As long as you don't go too mad you'll never have an issue.

      I'm in the same boat bought a digital gauge and never used it, the gauge on my pump is reliable in that if I pump it to 30, disconnect and then reconnect, it says 30 so it's reliable, how often am I using someone else's pump?

    Guess I dont need a fork lower service if my fork is Coil, it just does what it does which is perfect for a braindead BMX rider like me. They say Rockshox 35 on them, i'm happy. I love my 510 goretex winter shoe boots, shoots? None of that deathtrap clippy crap though, flat life, especially in wet season, angled roots can be a nightmare, just hop off an walk some of the uphill. I always have a tireguage and its smaller than that, its acoustic and the size of a pen, and reads up to 110psi for my BMX tires. The computer mount looks cool, I just use trailforks on my phone though, a phone mount for the stem would be pretty cool but I havent seen any that look strong and I dont know how that would hold my phone very good. And the neck warmer looks pretty useful, currently I just wear a baselayer that has a high almost turtle neck thing going on, only downside is I cant take it off if I get too warm. Cheers, I like these videos.

    "You wouldn't go walking in the hills with your trainers and some overshoes..."

  • @wanderer2246
    @wanderer2246 8 місяців тому

    As for shoes, any bike shoes are pretty universal in terms of weather, so gaiters and merino socks will make them any cold weather-resistant
    You probably do not need a pressure gauge if you have a pump with it, as usually when tires lost pressure, you will feel it and you probably will need a pump at the same time

    I have not worn bike shorts or had clipless pedals in over twenty years now. I go on a bunch of short rides and I wear tights a little but wear them under pants. I mostly wear wool underwear under work pants in the winter because they are warmer.
    I also haven't had a bike with a front shock in probably ten years about the time wear I had to pay over $500 for decent shocks I was done.
    I mostly stand at work and found out wearing clipless pedals were bad on my feet. I wear biking shoes with rigid bottoms still

    Another price insanity in biking - servicing/
    50-100 in labor for fork service, is nearly the same amount of money people are paying for regular car service. Which is harder?

    • @catalinionescu173
      @catalinionescu173 8 місяців тому

      To be honest, regular car service is quite simple, it isn’t more complicated than bike fork service. You literally have to take a screw off, wait for oil to drain, put screw on again, fill with oil. As for filters, most of them are using a simply click-click mechanism, just pull it off, push it in.

    • @wanderer2246
      @wanderer2246 8 місяців тому

      @@catalinionescu173 To take a screw off you need to get under the car, and better to have reliable jacking if your car is low clearance) And you need to have a space for car service, you cant do an oil service in open parking for example

    • @catalinionescu173
      @catalinionescu173 8 місяців тому

      @@wanderer2246 I was speaking from the perspective of a service that is charging you. This is what you complained about, prices in a service. A service for cars or bikes, already has everything needed to perform a basic service. As for self service, yes, it is a bit more complicated to do it with a car, but you can still do it with basic tools in a parking lot.
