Martyn, I work as a drug and alcohol counselor and use your Ted talk all the time as a way to help show those I work with it is possible to overcome life's obstacles. You are an inspiration to myself and many others!
Carl, you are an inspiration too! The work you do it's very important. When you help someone to overcome addictions, you are not only helping that particular person. You help her/his family, friends and community in many ways. So thank you for all you do
It's hard to pick a favourite presenter because everyone's so different... Neil's cool and collected (can tell he's seen some shit), Doddy's a walking encyclopedia for MTB, Blake's energetic and stupidly likeable and Martyn has achieved legendary status through a combination of mad skills and being a force of inspiration.
Keep at it. After about a year I was finally able to track stand on demand, at age 57. The cool thing about gaining track stand skill is you're then much better in slow speed very technical riding.
@@ironworm26 something I found helpful was to lean the side of my front tyre against a kerb or step. Just to make it easier to balance and get used to being upright without moving along. Hope this helps
When he said he paid 100 for that blue cannondale, i cant help bit imagine, if i was the seller i would just give it to Martyn for free in exchange of an autographed photo with him. This man is an absolute legend in this sports, both before and after his 2013 accident
It had to be weird for the seller filling that shipment address "Martyn Ashton ...". Maybe they didn't even realize it. I had an opportunity to sell 404's to one of our country's best IM athlete and I choose personal delivery just to have couple of words with him and photo. :-)
I would definitely have refunded all but the shipping charges after confirming that it was actually him who won the auction. I remember meeting 1970s/80’s BMX legend Harry Leary in the early 2000’s. He said that he wished he could get his hands on one of his signature Diamond Backs. He found one N.O.S. in a bike shop on display, and the shop owner refused to sell it to him. #somepeopleskids
Martyn got me into mountain biking. We had no hills where I lived so trials and street seemed like the only way to go at the time. He showed what could be done and me and my friends all tried to emulate his riding. Watched Chainspotting and Tricks and Stunts to death. Copied his bike best we could from pics in MBUK. Went to watch him at NEC bike shows. Met him twice at different shows and he stopped to chat and sign photos. Couldn't believe it when I heard about his accident. Sent money to help with recovery. Cried my eyes out when I watched Back on Track. Love him on GMBN and he's still my number one hero of the sport.
I've been following Martyn for over a decade now and got shocked when I learned about the accident back then. After that I just realized how brave and a strong man Martyn is. The way he carried on and kept a good attitude despite the obstacles even after being a world class athlete is beyond amazing. He's not just a world MTB champion but most important a champion in life, a role model. I'm sure he doesn't like to hear all this. He lives by setting an example to all of us that there's more in life than what we think. Hats off to you sir.
Martyn you're just an amazing person in general, love seeing you on the dirt shed. My dad was in a wheelchair as well and I saw the struggle. You definitely give me hope and amazement knowing what the future holds. That custom bike you have is already pretty good, imagine what there could be in 10 years. It's crazy how far we've come, everyone deserves to mountain bike.
Martyn, you are the reason I subscribed to GMBN. I was gutted when you had your accident, and I actually cried with joy when you came back. Thanks for decades of inspiration, can't wait to see what you've got in store next!
The back on track video was the reason I discovered GMBN and got in to mountain biking. Its crazy to see how far you've come Martin! Thanks for being part of such an amazing channel! 🔥🚲
Awesome Martyn, true legend and you're story is just pure inspiration. I had an pretty bad bike crash last year (nothing near what you have gone through) it kept me 6 months on bed and it has been a long way back to riding, broke my collar bone and my hip, still have no sensitivity on my foot from the calf down because a nerve injury. It's been hard, hearing your story makes me feel so stupid to be sometimes complaining. Thanks for sharing your story and for being such a positive person. I'm just a Peruvian that really admires you. Keep hosting cause many of us will keep watching.
The painting in the background is so SICK! Martyn said he would like to come to New Zealand or Tassie. please do visit tas or aus, would love to see GMBN down here
Dirty tricks and cunning stunts was the thing that really got me into mountain biking still my favourite video of all time. I used to spend hours watching it and trying to ride trials. It's one of my best childhood memories.
I just watched this, a year after it came out, and can’t help but imagine how e-bikes could progress into something useable for disabled riders like Martyn! They’re progressing so quickly, it’s a shame it hasn’t already happened, but a full electric bike with a throttle would mean it wouldn’t have to be all down hill. Martyn’s a legend for getting back in the saddle after such a bad injury, hopefully the industry can progress to help pay him back for his dedication to the sport
Best meet the presenter ever. I grew up cutting trials bike images out of magazines and plastering them all over my room. I wanted to be in the Volvo team as a kid so bad. Thanks for the inspiration and motivation!
Martyn you sir are a true legend. I remember seeing you ride and watching your back on track video was inspiring. It’s so good watching you and the GMBN team having so much fun.
Hello Mr. Ashton! This comment is most likely two years late but I thought I’d let you know that what GMBN and especially yourself, do for the world of biking is inspirational for beginners like myself. You probably get this a lot but I just want to say thank you personally, THANK YOU!
How did I miss this it just popped up after watching Blake's 1. What a guy Martyn is when I was a kid I wanted to be like him I trashed many bike trying to do the stunts 🤣 and IV got all the videos in the attic I'm gonna sort em out and watch them👍 any 1 got a VHS player I can borrow 🤣 and Martyn keep up the great work you was an inspection back then and you still inspire people now along with the crazy GMBN crew look forward to seeing more of you out and about on the tracks etc 🇬🇧🤟
When I was 10 I religiously watched tricks and stunts over and over and over again, because I wanted to ride trials, you definitely got me into trials absolute legend love everything you've done 🤘🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 I'm 35 now and still watch your vids.
I met Martin at the Frome Cobble Wobble about 6 months before his accident. It was awesome to meet him. He's still a massive inspiration to me and my friends. His enthusiasm is infectious. Thankyou Martin for being you.
at 62 years of age, beeing a motorbike racer and a road as well as a mountainbiker all my life its not easy to find inspiration now a days. You are one for me thats sure!
Awesome!!! Im 27 now and grew up on late 90s / early 00s MBUK. GMBN really is the modern day MBUK for me, with the likes of Martin, Doddy and Chris on the team. Great to still be following their skills and knowledge all these years later after giving so much inspiration when i was younger. Much Love!
Been a fan since the beginning. My proudest MTB moment... you signing my Rox T-shirt at a Silverstone. My worst moment... having that T-shirt stolen off mums washing line. I've spent most my adult life educating my son on MTB. He is now massive fan of you and the other ol' boys too. You're a massive inspiration Martin and I cannot wait to see you shredding on your new rig. Stay safe and Best wishes to you and yours.
I used to buy MBUK magazine, back in the day, & the thing that really, really blew me away, was the 'two Martins' riding their bikes UP INTO TREES!! It was like a magician's trick, couldn't get my head around it! Martin, considering all you've been through, to be SO positive now, & be gagging to ride your bike, you're clearly a mountain bike GIANT!!
In 1996 at 16yo I bought my first proper mtb, cannondale M300 because of Mr Ashton. Saved up every single penny. I remember meeting him in the 90s at BTCC at Croft circuit and getting his signature. I was in awe of his riding. And then last year getting a super nice on the bike vault, Martyn loved my bike. I’m a massive fan.
Great vid Martyn. Having been into mountain biking since the early 90's being a big fan of yours came hand in hand with that. I was so pleased to see you thrive within GMBN, after such a shocking accident. Please keep up the great quality work
Martyn! It’s all coming back to me. I moved from Canada to Madrid in the late 90s. Hockey was my sport and I was so bored doing goofy tricks on roller blades around a fountain. I walked past a bike shop every day on my way to the studio. Saw a Kona in the window one day and thought that might be fun. I loved it but the epiphany came the first time I crashed. I sat on the ground and laughed. Nobody told me mountain biking was a contact sport!! Mountain Biking UK was the only English language magazine I could get in Madrid. I studied all your tutorials and learned to do drops. I remember Doddy teaching me step by step how to do a bunny hop. I’m 64 now and still shredding(ish) on a Cube Stelio in Saskatchewan. Thanks to all you guys for putting out a great product then and now. Still shitty but still learning. Always use your health insurance as a bike accessory)))))
I'm 36 I just bought my semi pro Mountain bike and all because of GMBN. Can't wait to go a ride those trails. thanks for the inspiration for the fun and all the work you do!
Martin, I showed my Teenage Son Road bike party and he was amazed! We vacationed (holidayed 😁) in GB last Spring. While walking through the streets of Bath one evening you passed us on the sidewalk. Afterwards, I told my Son it was you. He couldn’t believe it. As much as I wanted to tell you how much I admired the incredible strength and courage you display every day, I couldn’t invade your privacy in your home city. I’ll bother you now...Thank you!
I watched the Road Bike Party series and the Gmbn at whistler video with my 10 year old Son. He was absolutley glued to the T.V and couldnt wait to tell his Mum how much he thought you were an inspiration to all not to give up. Hope you get to hit those trails!
Martyn was one of my MTB heroes as a teenager in the late 1990s. I'm 36 now and finding new inspiration in this phase of his career. Was glad to meet him in Plymouth years ago with Hawsey.
#GMBN Thank you again Martyn. So very fortunate to have you as an positive influence and friend I watch every week. I hope you know how much you give back to us every show.
My 6 yo daughter today asked me what being 'tough' was. I tried to explain it was working through physical and mental barriers and getting on with things. Not 6 minutes later this video was in my suggested watch list. Martyn Ashton is a great example of what tough is
Tricks and stunts was the greatest video, I remember watching it when it came out and trying out some of the moves with my riding mates. It's hilarious to watch now and see how things have moved on. Great to see you still out on a bike. Proper legend of the sport
Living legend!! Martin you have done alot for the sport & still do. After going down hill fast(not on a bike)after my diagnosis for a list of autoimmune diseases on top of bone cancer you inspired me to get back on a bike. I've had to change my riding but I'm back on it,thanx to my custom levo. Riding helps not only physically but mentally. Keep up the good work Martin & the GMBN family & I hope to see you all on the trails after lockdown🤘
It was brilliant to see this! Martyn is a legend... That classic Tricks and Stunts video taught me how to ride, I owe a lot to that video and the guys in it!
I remember tricks and stunts and chainspotting so well. They were the videos that got me into riding bikes when I was about 10 years old. I'm still having as much fun on bikes 22 years later 💪 Cheers!
Martyn, you are an absolute inspiration, most people would give up. You inspire me though my own incident, two years ago I got wiped off my motorbike and ended up a mess, nothing as bad as you, but they did say I might not walk again because of a pelvis break, but I also lost the use of my right arm, however the amazing NHS managed to fix the nerves that were broken. Everyday I workout for 2 hours and I now have some movement back, in fact enough that I can ride a bike. Just over two weeks ago I bought myself an ex-demo bike and am now riding the local trails each day (keeping time distancing laws) I feel alive again. It is not just the inspiration you show, but also the passion for the sport. Keep it up 👍
This has to be my favourite Meet The Presenter! I love seeing you so stoked about riding, Martyn and I love seeing videos from your old trials days. Best video to watch in lockdown - but should have been longer, mate. :D Stay awesome.
Have been binge watching GMBN this year and had a WTF moment when there was a 'brief' scene with Martyn in a wheelchair..... At that point I had already watched a lot of content with absolutely no idea about his situation!! Had to Google my way to the chunk of the matter and since caught up.... WHAT AN INCREDIBLY INSPIRATIONAL MAN YOU ARE MARTYN!!! Have done a lot of sailing with a quadriplegic yacht owner and had some of the most memorable adventures with him.... pushing through walls of adversity!! I myself was born with a disability (Dyserythropoietic Anaemia) and have learned a lot about about what the HUMAN SPIRIT can be capable of!! Yet still to this day am amazed by what can be achieved both individually, and with the help/company of good people around you. 🙏
Martyn, I've commented on many of your videos, you never fail to impress and inspire. Big MBUK fan back in the early days and you're still going strong, despite your injury. Sir, I truly believe you are some sort of bike wizard with your skills. I still remember JMC too, you guys rock!
You're a true star, Martyn! Your spirit and attitude is an inspiration to all who have spent a lifetime perfecting a skill and then been injured. You are by no means "faulty" x
One of the best of all time, a true goat, and still shredding harder than I ever could with my two legs. You are a legend and an inspiration. Thank you.
Unfortunately I can only give one thumb up for this video. Great video as always, and Mr. Ashton, you're such an inspiration for me and I believe for a lot of people out there.
Dude I’ve been following you since the mid 90’s. To watch they way you’ve transitioned your career from “on the bike”, to “all about bikes” over the past decade has been awesome... keep on keepin’ on!!!
I did i bit research after seeing you on the gmbn a while ago But this is first time i saw all your amazing work You've been a champion You are a champion and you always will be The thing i like the most is seeing you smiling every time i click on the dirt shed show videos And also putting smile on our faces and i love that about you thank you Martyn☺ 👍👌
Martyn, I last heard of you around 2000/01 when I used to buy the bike mags, the two Marty(i)n's antics adding the fun factor and the likes of Steve Peat were the riders to aspire to, trailblazers for an industry inspiring wannabe riders to get kitted out and ride. I've only recently learned about your accident and all that's happened since, loved all the GMBN stuff, the job you're doing now is so inspirational, my love for cycling was waning a bit but after watching your nutty antics I've remembered what its all about - fun! Keep up the great work, we all need inspiring every now and again :)
Martin at the age of 60 I am relatively new to mountain biking I love GMBN and now eMBN. Your story is totally inspirational. Thank you so much for your enthusiasm and generosity. I love the shed, your bodges and sense of humour. I am looking forward to watching your future adventures.
Mr Ashton you are a legend. I remember watching you at one of the Animal bike tour shows down in Ashford Kent . I went and purchased an Animal mtb jersey that very day because of you’re awesomeness , which is like new hanging in the wardrobe . 🤘
Definitely never been the fanboy/brown nose type, but, Martyn, you are a hero in my eyes, and an inspiration in many others ! Keep doing what you do bro ! PeeeeaCE !!!
Got to see the 2 Martyns at the World Champs in Plymouth in 98.. they put on an amazing show! The back on track video had me in tears, brilliant video and so inspirational. You also met my mate who was hit by a truck who was in the same ward as you after your accident, it properly cheered him up
Been watching GMBN for quite awhile and missed this one, but I am so glad I found this today. You are such a inspiration to me and love watching you ride…. The Happiness on your face can not be measured and the respect I have for you is over the top. Just watched the CHRISTMAS Special ride with all you guys and Absolutely Love watching it. Thanks for your courage
Hey Martyn you are truly an inspiration for me because I am also disabled and I'm no longer able to drive a vehicle and for the last four years I have been getting into mountain biking. My disability is not extreme as yours, I have MS which makes my balance way off so I am not able to ride a two-wheel bike very well so I have a three-wheel battery assist fat bike but after watching your videos I have a strong desire to try my 2 wheel mountain bike again because my three wheel leaves me very limited to where I can ride. Thank you for inspiration and awesome videos.
Just goes to show, someone’s experience would never show itself if you only look at what you see infront of you. You would probly be the most skilled presenter today mate, cheers!
As a mtb'r who has also broken their back i have to say Mr. Ashton you are such an inspiration to us all. I discovered gmbn a few years ago while layed up after my spinal fracture and i must say i feel like you literally saved my life. I was super depressed and was contemplating the worst ideas possible. Thank you for showing me how to continue on being disabled. The thought of never riding again just hurt my heart so bad i couldn't take it. Thank you for everything. Can never tell you that enough. Unfortunately my bike was stolen at rite aid a few months ago, but im stayin positive and saving up so with any luck i will be ridin again in the next 4 months and i have you to thank for that👍
Martyn - You are such an awesome inspiration to me personally - and I'm sure many others. Obviously, your cycling skills are legendary, but your love of the sport and your enthusiasm to all aspects of the MTB world are an inspiration! I never knew you when you had the use of your legs, but I believe your legacy is what you've done since and what you've yet to do. You, sir, are a LEGEND! Now - not then. Now - as your are. Legend and inspiration. Love you, sir!
Mr Ashton, you were my hero as a teenager and you will always be a legend! You influenced me with my riding so much as a kid to the point I always bought the trick bits you had on your Cannondale. I still have Dirt, Dirty Tricks and Chainspotting on VHS. I've even still got the original chainspotting poster from the bike show signed by every rider!
Mr. Martyn. i never seen your riding before seeing you on GMBN, but i have since learning of you. your skill is incredible. i am very sorry that you had the accident. and reminds me of what happened to me. i was 15, fell 40ft. landed the same way you described in this video, folded over kissing my chest. i was lucky enough to walk away, though 28yrs later i still deal with back issues. Keep killin it bud!! #GMBNRULES
I know this is repeating what so many others have said - but you ARE a massively inspirational guy, with no ego, just to quote Harry Enfield “a bloody nice chap”!
How can you be that fearless? I don't think I hold back much on a bike, but I don't have one tenth of your courage. I have always loved watching your videos, but they seriously creep me out in places. Amazing riding skills, then and now!
Hats off to you Martyn. Your a true inspiration. I've been mountain biking over 20 years. It's a huge part of my life, I couldn't imagine how you felt after your accident. I'm a valley lad and remember seeing you a few times down Porthcawl riding the rocks and also hanging out with Steve Peat in the Beer tent at the Bristol Bikefest. It's great to see you riding again and growing into such a great presenter at GMBN. All the best butt 🤘🤘🤘
Martyn, you are a very inspiring person, a person with disabilities and still a Bike profesional, that's amazing not all of them can do that, you are a lengend!

Hi Carl, Epic what you do. hats of to you and keep up the good work.
👍
I like drugs and alcohol at 18 is that wrong
“Faulty MTN biker”?! I beg to differ-you are an inspiration...cheers, Martyn.
Humbled by the man's modesty and his achievements. Also just a bloody good presenter with tons of knowledge.
woozer, I think he was referring to his paralyzed legs when he said "faulty". Let's not deny that we are all faulty.
His body may have suffered but his mind is the spirit of our passion
I hear that to be “Fawlty” because he’s about as faulty as John Cleese! Martyn is a legend of our time that’s for sure.
You are an inspiration!
Like if you’ve been waiting for GMBN Presenter - Martyn Ashton
FINALLY!!!
Master Of None YEAHHHHHHH
Definitely. Been waiting for this presenter video since Neil kicked things off with his ages ago. Great vid Martyn. Hero.
I have! Won't "like" tho cuz i don't like being told what to do. 😉😁
I would be really happy if you guys make a video like this about every gmbn presenter.

We are ALL faulty MTBrs! Most of us would be lucky gaining just HALF the experience and skill Martyn has under his belt.
yea i cant even do a track stand

I remember him from Road Bike party. I was torn back then between road cycling and BMX bike and then he showed you can basically do both lmao
Martyn and blake are the best presenters i have ever seen
Martyn and doddy for me
*correction* our favourite gmbn presenter

Martyn, you aren't a faulty mtber, you're the godfather of MTB for a generation of kids. You're an inspiration to the whole community.

I don't know why but it never clicked in my head that Martyn was the guy in the road bike trials videos. What an absolute legend.
What 5 idiots didn’t like this video?
You’re a legend mate. Thanks from all the mountain bikers out there, for keeping us motivated.
Dirty tricks and cunning stunts was the thing that really got me into mountain biking still my favourite video of all time. I used to spend hours watching it and trying to ride trials. It's one of my best childhood memories.
I'd love to have witnessed that "J R Hartley" moment when the seller of the Martyn Ashton Signature Cannondale frame sees who won the auction.

I was in awe of his riding. And then last year getting a super nice on the bike vault, Martyn loved my bike. I’m a massive fan.
Martyn you are such an inspiration, cheers mate!
Such a good idea to do this segment and Martyn, you are my hero. Moab is a must for the whole GMBN crew!
Appreciate the message! We'll pass it on to Martyn (for future reference he doesn't mind if people want to say hi! He loves a quick chat with fans!)
Martyn Ashton is a great example of what tough is
That painting on the wall is just so cool !
Love you martyn !
A true legend. I remember Chainspotting & DIRT VHS (1995). Hope you stay at the forefront of GMBN with genuinely helpful & grounded advice.
Massively enjoyed your appearance at 'Meet GMBN Presenters'. Thanks for sharing your experience. And I agree about 'all mountain' / Enduro Series.
Legend. Your humility, intelligence & sense of fun makes GMBN. Don't ever stop.
Dude, Danny MacAskill looks like a budget Martyn Ashton every time I see you're old videos. You're incredible.
I remember tricks and stunts and chainspotting so well. They were the videos that got me into riding bikes when I was about 10 years old.
I'm still having as much fun on bikes 22 years later 💪
Cheers!
Years off the bike yet still inspiring, Thank you! You are truly a Living Legend of the sport we all so love.
This is my new favorite GMBN video. What an inspiring person and story.
Youre a legend and inspiration to so many mate. So glad that you exist alongside GMBN.
I did i bit research after seeing you on the gmbn a while ago
But this is first time i saw all your amazing work
You've been a champion
You are a champion and you always will be
The thing i like the most is seeing you smiling every time i click on
the dirt shed show videos
And also putting smile on our faces and i love that about you thank you Martyn☺
👍👌
So glad to finally see this video, I've been waiting for something like this for forever, and I definitely wasn't disappointed! Loved the vid
Martyn you are amazing . Your trick riding was incredible. All the gmbn presenters all seem so cool !!
This is my favourite GMBN video! Yourself and Rick Allen (Def Leppard) take the top spots in my inspiring people list!
You are such a inspiration to me
and love watching you ride….
Amazing open and honest vid!! You’re a legend and don’t ever forget it !! You got me into trials back in the 90s! Awesome
Full respect to the resilience, fun and bright spirit.
Martyn, Your truly an inspiration for all of us out here in the Mountain Biking World.
I didn't know Fabio Wibmer is basically a Martyn clone. Absolutely insane riding skills. What a legend and inspiration you are. Never give up.
Mr. Martyn. i never seen your riding before seeing you on GMBN, but i have since learning of you. your skill is incredible.
i am very sorry that you had the accident. and reminds me of what happened to me.
i was 15, fell 40ft. landed the same way you described in this video, folded over kissing my chest. i was lucky enough to walk away, though 28yrs later i still deal with back issues.
You are an inspiration Martin. Thanks for being so open and honest. Keep riding mate.
This is why we all love you so much, Martyn. Keep on doing what you're doing, mate!
Legend of a man. Great to watch this. Thanks Martyn 👊
Martyn is a legend...
That is all.
Thank you for the example you set
You’re not a faulty mtb rider. You’re a LEGEND!
