      HG: Bird and Snek the _songs,_ in-universe contextualized moments where the singer is singing for political purposes, fits the world perfectly. Of course there would be a folk-hero like that in such a world who would use her voice for social impact.

    The training with weights is a common trope, first time I saw it was in Dragon Ball (eighties) and they had a character in Naruto who did the same. People actually looked into if it would really help you with losing weight/gaining strength and it will just heighten your risk on injuries unless you use a weighted vest (and even then).

    The claim that white people can’t relate to characters of other races is one of the most boldly and openly racist concepts. I just can’t give any credence to anyone who’s willing to slander hundreds of millions of strangers. How can some people get canceled for saying one dumb thing, but others can base their movie-making philosophy around something this hateful?

    I’m trying to remain objective on this Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy subject. It seems her activism is mostly centred on Pakistan. I have actually been there a couple of times and its culture is very ‘different’ to western countries. The stories I heard in relation to women’s rights in recent decades were pretty awful.
    That aside I cannot see what credentials she has to launch a new Star Wars chapter. This seems a very stupid decision by the mouse. I doubt this person has any real interest in the recovery of the franchise. ‘I have a bad feeling about this’ is an understatement.
    Tbh I am far more interested in watching Warhammer 40K content that Star Wars these days.

    I generally agree the whole "white people only care about other white people" thing is super racist; but there is the context with _Killers of the Flower Moon_ that the book originally went: Osage POV, people keep dying mysteriously; Feds POV, they unravel the mystery and realize it was the beloved white husbands doing it all along; and then finally Villain POV which recounts what actually happened and why they did it.
    The movie only focuses on the villain POV with Ernest as the central character, which makes the movie much more about his personal doubts and struggles, when originally the book was about the OSAGE doubts and struggles to come to terms with the betrayals.
    Obviously Ernest is the villain in both versions, but hearing fans of the book describe the differences, i can't help but agree the book sounds way more interesting and focused on the actual victims rather than how sorry the villain is.
    I like the movie we got, it's an excellent depiction of how cowardice and complacency can overrun a society into evil actions; but we hardly see any of the Osage in this version of the movie and it's a missed opportunity.
    I think "white people only care about how the problem AFFECTS THEM" is an accurate criticism of where the movie puts its focus; but to assume that applies to ALL white people completely misses that the vast majority of the white audience _had the same criticism,_ that the movie spends too much time showing what the villains are doing from the get-go and the movie should've built up the mystery more focusing on the other victims and the investigation.
    As a white guy myself, the scenes with the Osage folk just chilling, figuring out what to do next, and laying out the philosophical pros and cons of their situation, were BY FAR the best scenes of the movie and i wish I got to see more of _that movie_ and less of Ernest's crocodile tears.
    In this case I totally see why people were disappointed with this movie in particular, even if people draw a super racist conclusion out of it, there is _some_ issue there worth addressing.
    It's really unfortunate how "anti"racists reduct all of that down to "white people are just evil" and the tired old Representation Argument, which immediately derails the conversation way off course and ignores the actual problem with the movie (too much villain moping, not enough mystery). It's like leftists see common agreement and bolt in the opposite direction with the white-guilt bullshit and the whole conversation takes the bait.

    • @jasrianna
      @jasrianna Рік тому +4

      @@hardwarelegs7686 Exactly. Sadly there are some people who probably agree with the men in Pakistan she was (rightly) trying to make uncomfortable and don't want to hear the truth or the correct context in which her comments should be taken. The genuine grievances about woke storytelling get mixed in with some viewpoints that amount to the kind of discrimination that does endorse racism, misogyny etc. It becomes a smokescreen for it, even though Drinker clearly doesn't endorse or promote such things any more than he white knights for anyone. I commend him for being the only big youtuber I've seen to point out the circumstances surrounding those remarks instead of just joining the pile-on. Doesn't make her any more qualified to direct the movie, but accuracy does matter and she shouldn't be condemned for a clip played in isolation from years ago with the meaning completely altered.
