Combining TTRPG hexmaps with classic 16/8bit RPG world map vibes? Man, that's great!
Man, I was recently working on a project like this, but since I'm new to these things, your video helps me a lot.

Regarding 8:07 the reason they all looked the same back then was the very limited storage they had at the time. I'm sure most of these from what ended up becoming major studios would have been more unique if they could have had the storage for those assets. I definitely will be looking into making some pixel art maps myself, although I'd probably use the stamp tool for the pictures on each tile so it can keep the backgrounds.

I know I'm a bit late, but there's a free program called Tiled that is for level building in video games. You can make tile sheets and use them like little brushes. There's also Worldographer and Hex Kit which are hex-based tile editors, which you can make tile sets for as well, but those aren't free.
Familiar with hex kit, but will check out the other two!

I think adding pixel art into an rpg is the best. Your new campaign got me to take the dive into joining your patreon and I am happy I did! Your style is really cool. Have you seen the newish rpg called Heroes of Cerulea? Its combat uses all D4s and its heavily zelda inspired. I'm also a fan of the pixel loot card series on drive-thru rpg.
Your idea for making this map is very inspiring. I wish there was an app to make these style maps that also had some pre-made location templates to use or get inspiration from. It would be like Mario Paint for rpg maps!

I don't quite understand on making the hex guide. Can you make a video about that?
Draw a single hex with the 1 pixel pencil tool. Then copy it over and over to make the grid (just like you copy the tiles). Keep the grid layer on top so it doesn’t get covered up.
Which is your favorite Dragon Quest/Warrior game? Favorite RPGs in general?
3 is my favorite of the old ones. Haven’t finished any of the new ones (they are so long!) All time favorite rpg is Suikoden 1 and 2!
