This was such a cop out ending. He deserved better, and his death didn't even mean anything in the end. They started the show out as a trio and should've ended as one.
The most useless death I`ve ever seen. Croatoane would get more troubles? So what? I mean, in that moment it was not important, at all. Finally they win because... Because what? Because Audrey talked to her daddy? OMG, thats so stupid... It was no single fucking reason to kill Duke. And what i hate the most - no one tried to protect him during the whole history. Nathan was protecting Audrey, Audrey was protecting Nathan, Dwight was protecting the guard, the guard were protecting troubled, troubled were protecting themselves and no one just cared about Duke! Except maybe Evi (if what she has done can be called protection) and Jennifer. And you know what? They both are dead. Nice.
I can see your point. They may have over-done the bad guy with a heart of gold theme. But he did love his people and like so many others in the show, gave up his life. I would not mind living his life in real life.
Just think about how he always was trying to stop his death, but now he’s dying by the man with the tattoo but it’s based on his choice. It’s not destiny, but it’s choice. I find this very poetic and peaceful.
@@jenniferbrown7539 He killed himself because he was sick of being used. He didn't want to be responsible for hurting anyone else and wanted to take back control.
@@jenniferbrown7539 I mean you're comparing what he did to suicide in general. Was a suicidal move but done for the greater good as well as that. But yeah. Surprised such a quick reply from a Haven video, usually the comment sections are pretty dead.
You could just tell that Nathan didn't feel great killing Duke...but Duke was right...the longer that he stayed alive...the more people that Croatoan was going harm in releasing a random trouble from Duke's body. It sad that it turned out that Nathan was the one who had to do it because I feel like they had become such best buds with the help of Audrey. Nathan and Duke started out the series hating and wanting to fight each other to being the best of friends until the very end. I think I am going to remember the last thing that Duke said before Nathan killed him...which was something along the lines of how he was going to show Croatoan that Duke Crocker was nobody's female dog. I am going to remember that line the most.
This was the saddest scene in any of the TV shows I've ever watched. Duke was the Daryl Dixon of Haven and it sucked sooo much when Nathan killed him but at least he died saving people he cared about and was surrounded by people he loved and he didn't die alone.
i watched this episode last night and finished the show literally and omg i have never cried so hard, i even cried in math thinking about duke, he was my favorite
I was really hoping that they would find a way to save him. I remember when I first saw him in the beginning episodes. I thought Duke was going to be an annoying character. He ended up being my favorite too.
I know what you mean. The last time I cried this hard over a TV character's death was in Stargate SG1 in the episode "Meridian" when Daniel Jackson dies/ascends. A flood of tears and hysterical sobbing both times.
A true friend respects your wishes no matter how much it hurts. Nathan and Duke started out rocky but in the end Nathan ended up doing one of the hardest things he has done in the show and I have no doubt that if they had a little more time Nathan would’ve fought tooth and nail to find a way to save him, but Duke was right they were out of time just Like Wanda and Vision in infinity war. The kind of hole this must’ve left Nathan he needed that happy ending or I think it would’ve crushed him.
Well Nathan did say in season 1 that he would be the one to kill him if Duke was to die so at least it was Nathan that did it and at least he was with people who loved him and didn't die alone yes it was sad asf it was as if Daryl from the walking dead died because duke reminds me of him but u know what it's ok maybe if they have another season or a reboot or something they could figure out away to bring duke back somehow
I started the show like 2 weeks ago and I just finished. And I think the ending for him was how it was supposed to be. He deserved better but it was always supposed to be like this. Yea they were a trio but duke had really nothing to live for and everytime he did. It got taken away from him. And at least he died knowing that it was his choice and not just his destiny. He chose that and honestly I’m glad it was Nathan that did it.
His death was even foreshadowed back in season one...….and I totally agree you on that.....to be honest it sucked that it turned out Nathan was the one that killed him because those went from hating each other to being the best of bros to each other. It is heartwarming that they were able to put their differences aside and actually be friends before he died.
I love Duke, I can’t believe that everyone was the reason he died especially because of Audrey and Nathan like literally he was killed by them. May he r.i.p in the show and may he thrive as an actor in rl.
Duke and Nathan were always my favorites on this show - disliked everyone else. This was such a horrible end for Duke, and for Nathan too, making him be the one to kill him. They should have been less horribly, boringly cliched and had Duke and Nathan (who had FAR more chemistry than anyone else on the whole show) get together, and just had Audrey go back in the bloody barn to stop the troubles. Absolutely hated the end of this series.
I was so mad about this when it first aired! Though it was his choice, it didn't make it any easier to watch! Out of all the characters on this show, Duke was the absolute BEST!
I cried so much while watching this. Ever since the first moment I saw Duke, I've always had a huge crush on him, so this was very hard for me to watch. The farthest I saw was to somewhere in season four I think. And, since I don't really remember anything that happened, I am rewatching the series. I was on Google a while ago (a few minutes ago) because I had found out about John Dunsworth's (Dave Teagues) death and then I decided to look up all the characters that died in the show and found out that Duke died and immediately had to see how he died.
Definitely go back and rewatch. Duke's death was beyond sad but his death was actually very heroic. Duke was definitely a hero - even if he didn't mean to be.
I JUST finished this. I cried when Duke died. I think the show was better off ending with Nathan’s speech. The whole show revolved around the selfishness of Nathan and Audrey protecting each other and they still gave them a happy ending but Duke got a trash one. As soon as I saw this part I hoped for an ending where Croatoan actually won because otherwise the death was meaningless. Duke deserved sooo much better.
God this scene makes me cry 😂 But I have to say I’m surprised that some of the people here in the comments were so pissed with how his death was done. I mean it was foreshadowed from Season 1, Duke got to give Croatoan a big middle finger with this, and Nathan really learned a lot from this. All those times in the past he had treated Duke horribly, and how in the last few seasons he really came to be one of his closest friends, it makes watching the series from the beginning even sadder when you have Nathan jokingly telling Duke that he’s gonna kill him someday, and that he got the tattoo just to be on the approved list. Nathan knows that he did it to himself, and that’s one of the sad things here. And Duke... man, yes, he did deserve so much better. But that’s not how real life is. Good people die all the time. And when his death was prophecied from the first season, there’s no way they could have had him live. I will admit that maybe there was a better way this situation could have been handled besides killing him, like Laverne locking him in a room with no windows or doors, but the characters didn’t really have time to think about that. And when you think about it... it’s really quite poetic that Duke died surrounded by the people who cared about him most: Audrey, Nathan and Gloria. Man this scene is sad 😂😭
I cry everytime I watch the series finale.....having to watch Audrey and Nathan say goodbye for the last time as the scene pans out where Nathan says his monologue about he loves Audrey and how he will ALWAYS love her...makes me cry everytime.
I'm going to say it, I hated this moment. I like Nathan in this show but with this act, he should never have had the happy ending he did on the show. Duke was the better man for doing all the hero things that Nathan did on the show (for Audrey), but knowing that he would never get the girl. I really wish the show had taken a different direction in season 5 or been renewed early enough to change that plot.
I just finished this show. Happened to watch it by suggestion so I’m really late but I don’t think Duke “deserved” Audrey. Maybe it’s just me because she got on my nerves but Duke was better off with Jennifer. He needed much better than any half assed love Audrey could have given him and he needed someone who wouldn’t use him but love him for who he was.
I cried so much when this first aired...recently rewatched the entire series and it seemed even sadder. If anyone deserved a happy ending, it was Duke. This really was one of the saddest deaths of all the TV shows I've watched. Damn it, Duke :(
Yeah. It takes a lot these days for a drama to squeeze out some tears. I was really happy to see Nathan and Audrey together and to find out it really was Audrey just reborn again. That was the point that turned me around and made me feel it was a happy ending. Later.

God I loved Duke. He didn’t deserve to die, but in the end, he saved everything and everyone. Not going to lie, I’m crying really hard right now.
This made me so mad. Duke has sacrificed more than Nathan. Duke sacrificed his humanity for Audrey's gain. Aaargh..
