    Catherine, I'm not sure why, but I've bumped into several of my sewing friends this week when alterations came up in our conversations. Each time, I've referred them to your channel. Your demonstrations are not only helpful but fun to watch. I am motived to run to Goodwill to find clothes I can cut up and put back together. LOL! I'm a quilter, so honestly, it's not that much different. Thank you! Happy summer. Peace.

    I have used this technique before, except the garment wasn't frayed, so I sewed the gusset together and serged the raw seam edges. It works brilliantly!

    Morning Catherine from New Zealand.Love your channel so professional and you explain steps so well.I have been a sewer all my life but at 82 am still learning new ideas.If its only the waist band that is tight you can easily gain 1 to slightly more inches by removing the waist band completley and replacing a more stretchy band from another pair of jeans.I have done that several times.Also do away with the band and use elastic the same width as band.Ok if you dont intend to tuck in the top.All the best.

    Fabulous instructions; thanks for showing how to expand the jeans waist! I’ve been just cutting the waistband & adding elastic in each side because I wear my shirts over to, not tucked in. This looks much neater! 🤗🇨🇦

    This is a great tutorial to show how simple increasing the waist is! Ever since I hit mid-50’s I tend to accumulate my extra weight in the waist. Urggg…. So maddening! But this shows how easy it is to fix pants that fit everywhere but the waist! Thanks!

    Nice. I have done similar fixes in the past 👍🏻 when I buy trousers if I buy to fit my waist, the hips ate too big. If I buy to fit my waist, the hips are always baggy 🙄 very few people are standard sizes, I think 🤔. It's very useful being able to sew.

    There is no way I could wear pants like those; because, the metal studs would cause painful skin ulcers on me (that will leave scars later). However, I did need this video to make my thrifted, new, Jim Bean slacks fit me better in the waist. Thank you. Your altered pants look great on you.

    Love the alterations and so quick! Question for you - I bought a beautiful round vintage tablecloth with a ruffled hem (about 3 inches). I thought about making a half-circle skirt with one half and then trying to make a matching top incorporating the ruffle. I had wanted a dress at first but thought that would not work. Any suggestions?

    • @CatherineSews
      @CatherineSews  5 місяців тому +1

      Ooooh, the skirt would be gorgeous! You could use the whole thing to make a full circle skirt, but if it’s big enough then, yes, a half circle would be beautiful. The top would be more challenging.

    I've done this with several garments. I don't tuck in my shirts so it isn't a problem, especially when I don't have the fabric to match for the triangles. Without knowing how to sew I would have a limited wardrobe that wouldn't fit.

    Catherine, why didn't you just finish the waistband with a copy of the original as you had matching fabric? Just curious if there was a reason.

    • @CatherineSews
      @CatherineSews  5 місяців тому +3

      Oh, do you mean replacing the whole waistband? Yes, I could have done that but I’d still need the triangle insert below the waistband so it wouldn’t get me much further ahead, plus I’d have the belt loops and rivets to deal with.

    • @elaineforan4751
      @elaineforan4751 5 місяців тому

      I was thinking that since the jeans have extra features like zips and extra pockets, a rectangular patch across the waistband section only, finished with rivets would look functional and disguise the inserted triangle.

    • @CatherineSews
      @CatherineSews  5 місяців тому +1

      @@elaineforan4751 oh I see! I really did need a bit more room below the waist band, so the triangle was necessary, but I love your idea of finishing with more rivets!!

    Question, I am trying to brainstorm to adjust a one piece bathing suit for a wheelchair user. She can not walk. Use a lift to transfer to bathroom. She would love to wear a one piece swimsuit . We need to make sure there is a flap to open for her to use the bathroom . I’m think of cutting it below the belly button and above the pubic area. Then finish the seams and put snaps on it . Just trying to help her out since I am her nurse and she is going to the beach next month and possible cruise next year. Any help would be appreciated, thanks Diane Hartley

      @@CatherineSews I was able to create the swimsuit! I used snap tape. At the highest point of the leg opening I sewed the elastic in place then cut up about 2 inches and arched it to the other side. Secured the seams, then put the snap tape on the crotch piece was squished together due to the round edges. Then put it on the bodice piece. It did not quite line up but she was so happy that now she can wear a one piece to the beach.
