Good Morning! Thanks for checking out our channel much appreciated! Have you tried a new battery? I would start with that. Secondly has the dealer reflashed the bike with the newest map available? How many hours are on the bike? We have heard of worn throttle bodies that will cause that issue and there is no fix other than to replace the throttle body.

Even if you don't get all infos and the erase default codes possible, any BT dongle and a good software on your phone (like car scanner pro) will give you infos about engine temperature ;) . I found too that the 8 min is a good average value to get to the T° and complete the procedure . But I guess race map I'm running now has more ignition timing advance, as bike warms up far faster ;) Found too that lots of people become a bit obsessed by the stepmotor procedure. Doing it each time they use the bike, masking in fact other problems like bad valves play, some air leak in admission hoses, not recent spark plug, low voltage or bad charging ( as you mentionned ); etc... ... BIke well set up doesn't need often stepmotor procedure, even when changing elevation places. Secret is not to fast open the throtlle when you start riding, but be super smooth on it, let it gently warm up during begin of ride (and engine says thanks too ;) ) Correct me if I'm wrong, as I had a very short time using BST with the euro 5 last ECU version, but I saw that the excursion of step motor was possible from -20 to + 20 value now... I can be wrong... PS : JUst pluging ODB2 cable wakes up the bike and you can clearly listen to the step motor and fuel pump activation .. in total silence ;)

Also to note (my bike came with a thermostat that kicked on my fan at 150* F): Unplugging the fan will allow the bike to hit 215*F which is when the stepper motor will lock in. It would never reach that temp if I didn't unplug my fan.

    • @3SeasRecreation
      @3SeasRecreation  2 роки тому +2

Hey Shawn, thanks for the comment. I just had to do some research but I found in the manuals that the OEM Beta fan is designed to kick on between 219 and 221 degrees Fahrenheit which is above the 203 degrees Fahrenheit (95 degrees celsius) that is required for the stepper motor to finish it's reset. Maybe you have installed a lower temp sensor or an aftermarket fan kit? Let me know, Jared

Thanks for this video. My '23 350 rr, I only ride in the same spot. This has a persistent stalling issue typically at about 30 miles into a ride if I'm in low speed single track. First they found out of the crate the valves were very tight from the manufacturer. Adjusted. Same problem. Then the ECU had a recall. No fix. Then they replaced all sensors. No fix. The green plug on gas cap was removed before I took ownership. Beta cannot figure out this issue. I've owned it for 6 months and every ride has had this stalling problem EVEN with this starting method facilitated. Is this something common or.....??? I'm about to drop this off by the Titanic.

Good Morning, Beta just released a new EFI map (mid may) for all 2023 4-stroke motorcycles. You reallllly need to get that done, it has been a common issue this year with running issues especially hot starting. Also, there is a voluntary check on your voltage regulator plug. I would be willing to bet one of your pins in your voltage regulator is not seated correctly. Your dealer should have access to all of these service bulletins. Enjoy The Ride, Jared

When it could be dirty and doesn´t work properly or do you have any ideas ?

Thanks for the vids - they are awesome.
I note that the engine temp needs to reach 95 degrees to reset the stepper motor. Do you know if there is a simple way to install a digital display to the cylinder head temp sensor so you can see when it reaches this temp? If not, I know there are a number of options to do this for water temp but is this the same as engine temp, or is it higher or lower then engine temp?
    Thanks

Good Morning! That is a good question, I don't have a fast solution for that. So that is why I took the time to film so you could watch my dealer screen that shows engine temp and that would give you a base line to shoot for. Most of the time you can physically hear the engine tone change if it actually needed to be done. When you hear that change in engine tone you know its complete! Enjoy The Ride, Jared

Hey Jared, maybe you could help me understand something a bit better: in this particular video, you stated that because you are a dealer, you have that connector tool (I imagine a diagnostic plug-in). And in another video you had mentioned something about having the shop manual, again, because you’re a dealer. I’m a customer in the US (west coast-ish 2021 390 RR-S) and I have been looking around the web to see if I could find more literature than I already have in the way of technical manuals. I already have the owners manual, the “repair manual” (that only covers the engine) and a manual for the Sachs forks and I just cannot seem to find anything more for a deeper dive into all the things. Is the shop manual you’re referring to different than what I have, and I’d love to know more about whether this connector tool (and shop manual if different) are even available to anyone who is not a dealer? Thank you for all the sweet sweet Beta content!

Good Morning, I would certainly try to get the stepper motor to reset. Other things you should try is to fully charge the battery, I don't think most dealers fully charge the batteries before the bike leaves the dealer and the Beta fuel injected bikes HAVE to have a perfect battery. I think 4 minutes of trying to get it to start has def weakened the battery. Also, I would try a new spark plug... sometimes a new bike can need a plug from the light coating of oil they put on the engine internals to protect them during shipping. I have not yet seen an updated EFI map for the 2023s so I am not sure that is required. Enjoy the ride, Jared

What is the minimum voltage that the battery must supply to prevent the engine from poor idling?
Do you have any experience values?

Hi Jerrad, I took the steeper motor out on my 430 and cleaned it. After I reinstalled it, I fired it up and the idle was slower and dropped right back down after you rev it up. Happy me. Then I decided to reset the stepper motor. After eight minutes when it came up to temperature, I shut it off and then stated it back up after a few minutes. The bike is now idling much higher and it takes about five + seconds for the idle to drop back down. What happened? Do I need to take the motor back out and then not reset it after I put it back in? It does have a new battery. Took the stepper motor backout, wipe it off and put it back in. Took it for a ride, after a couple minutes the hanging idle started and it got worse as the ride went on. It got to the point where the idle would pull me along at 20mph, a little scary going down step trails lol. Time to replace it? Thanks

Hanging throttle / slow to return to idle. The most common causes for this are:
      Low battery/charging confusing the ECU.
Failure to perform the stepper adaptation procedure.

Hose being just near the exhaust , rubber becomes flexible and wieght of body throttle deforms it and makes some air leak.
An other symptom of air leak on 4S Beta is too much sensitivity of spark plug cap, bike running super bad if not down to 0.5 to 0.6 mm

My bike shut off when i realese the accelator..doesn’t run in idle..is that stepper motor problem??

I would absolutely try this stepper motor process, you should actually consider doing this process anytime you go to a new place to ride. I would also load test your battery to make sure that it is 100%. We had a bike that we did everything to and all it ended up being was a dead battery... It would still start and "run" but never idle.. Thanks, Jared

@@3SeasRecreation A common failure is the harness cable going to the rec reg which is too tense : plug can be seen correctly connected but in fact you have bad contacts and charging is erratic. Using data log ( even with ordinary odb2 software like Car scanner pro which records real time multiple parmaters ) ,when running bike, makes diagnosis very easy... Starting bike with a weak battery will make the voltage drop to 8 or even 7 volts with the starter crancking and the ECU has no undervoltage shut off protection( like cars ) .PCM circuit of ECU will stil drive the sensors, fuel pump, etc.. It can end in a bad situation which can results in glitches in the ECU memory...

Trying to figure out my throttle/idle issue and I thought the stepper motor reset would do the trick. The RPM's hang a little bit before dropping back down to idle when I let off the throttle. Here is video footage of it: ua-cam.com/video/Ozgl8M7zYuA/v-deo.html

Good Morning, I still think it is a stepper motor issue, have you tried taking it out and cleaning it? Other than that my suggestion would be to take the bike to a dealer with the service tool and they can test the stepper motor to make sure that it is even working (I did that in the video but it was hard to hear). Also, they could do a reset while the diagnostic tool is plugged in and they could watch the value change to make sure it is working. Hope it helps! Thanks, Jared
