  • So I was under the impression that my car had terrible wheel spin when getting into boost. I was promptly proven wrong when my clutch decided to pretty much eat itself alive causing damage that luckily was recoverable. I decided to upgrade to an unsprung clutch disk to give the drivetrain a more direct feel and to see the benefits of getting the clutch/flywheel balanced together. You'd never believe what caused the clutch to fail unless its happened to you as well. I've never seen anything like this. New clutch is in and I've got a couple more things to do before I hit the track again this winter so be ready!

💯. I've probably watched your video on the turbo install like 8 times recently. It's been a huge help for me with my ST. Thanks for the content brother.

Watched you build your engine and it helped me build mine back in March. Thank you! She had held strong for the past 10k miles

Keep making em brotha. There's a slew of new ST owners coming around. A whole new generation and many of them will be modding.

Is that tuxedo black? Or shadow black? I can’t remember if ford went to shadow black for 17-18’, just curious. Just had my trans replaced last sept/October, should of had ford swap in the RS clutch…ope. Love the videos as always.

yeah, tbo Id get rid of the vented oil cap. If you properly vent the system with a rear (intake pipe) and front (intake manifold) OCC set up, maybe vent one or both, and do the radium (or similar style) PCV baffled plate...the blowby wont be a problem.
I'm surprised you did such a big engine build with a 2867...thats a lot of sacrifice it seems to get what power levels the 2867 can max out at. I run a 3071, XDi HPFP, and RS injectors on E40, and i did lose a lot of low end fun but the power it makes around 3800 way past redline, is worth it. Yours sounds like you lost a lot of the drive-ability. I was running a 392 scat pack challenger, a FBO/E30 new ecoboost mustang, and a supra (not sure which model) 2 days ago...i walked them all but i had BAD clutch slip for 4-5 seconds while powershifting from 3 to 4. Kind of sucks gaining so much, then losing a few seconds of pull...and having to regain it again (which is still did!).
I'll be upgrading my clutch soon as a result (which brought me here)...but was hoping to find some clutch install videos. Most just show it out, then in, then driving... Im looking at the Competition Clutch stage 3 kit which includes the disc, pp, throw out bearing, flywheel, and hardware. Ive done clutches on other cars and did 100% of my own mods up to this point (other than the tuning), and I am planning on having her down for days for this install.
Your car is nuts though...true track car! Glad to see you got it back on the road and that is definitely an odd way for the clutch to go out...such a silly little cheap piece of a part to cause a full system failure!

My clutch has 153k on it and as far as I know it's still perfectly fine for now, I keep toying with the idea of just replacing it but have no idea how much of an impact it'd make at this point. If it somehow still has a good amount of life to it, I would have a hard time justifying the time spent replacing it. That said if I noticed an improvement to swapping it due to age / mileage that may very well be worth while even if it has notable life left.

How much of a difference did you notice from a lightweight flywheel? Also thanks for the constant in-depth vids your the man Trey!

You only wanna do that kind of stuff if you're doing specific types of driving. It'll rev faster but the point of a flywheel is to help with take-off. Less weight means you have to play around more with the clutch and in stop and go traffic can get very annoying. A heavier stock flywheel is kind of the perfect balance of drive-ability and performance so the plus or minus of weight is strictly scenario based. Heavier in theory means less revs without bogging the engine and less weight means more clutching and higher RPM's to do the same job. So as an example if you have a track car and ideally all you're wanting quicker acceleration after slowing down in corners, a light flywheel is likely what you want. A drag car wouldn't want something super heavy but maybe heavier than the car came with to help get as quick of a start as possible with as little wheelspin possible. I'd say for typical driving and racing off at stoplights the standard flywheel is fine but swapping the clutch itself to a more performance aggressive clutch might be most ideal.

@@MidnightMarrow Wow! Thanks for such a in-depth response. I’ve heard gear chatter is more noticeable with a lightweight flywheel maybe I’ll consider sticking with the OEM dual mass.

Just did this install on my ST also, I went with the Xclutch Stage 1. Lightweight flywheel and BSD really changes how the car revs. Mine came with a new clutch steel braided line and I removed the helper spring on the pedal.

I'd only do that at the track for quicker shifts, but if you drive it everyday I'd put it back in when you're just beating around town or you'll be replacing your slave in short order.

@@richardlapoint1845 Hey, I dropped it back in about a month ago. I remembered I had the Steeda Spring, and without it the pedal would not return all the way to the top. The spring fixed that

Hey brother, question for ya. This only started happening recently, but sometime when I shift from N to 1st there's a loud mechanical clunk sound (the clunk happens as I lift off the clutch, not when i shift). It only happens sometimes, and I noticed if I take my time with the clutch, it doesn't happen. Thoughts on what it could be / if you've experienced something similar? Thanks. ❤️
