The Gibson ES-335 is arguably one of the most versatile guitars ever. Referred to by some as the “Burst Killer,” the 335 was introduced in 1958 and went on to become one of the most popular and most imitated electric guitars in the business. But why is the Gibson ES-335 so popular? Why is the 335 considered one of the best electric guitars of all time? In this demo and guide to the ES-335, Dinesh delves deep into all things ES, revealing the seven key reasons why it is so beloved of guitarists of all genres and styles.
Watch as Dinesh explores the seven major benefits of an ES-335, including its comfortable ergonomics, perfect balance, and incredible genre-spanning versatility. Equipped with a pair of humbuckers and independent volume and tone controls for each pickup, there is a world of tonal possibilities, with feedback made controllable on today’s stages thanks to the innovative center-block design. As if that wasn’t enough, it also has a classy look that defies genre stereotypes and ensures you’ll never show up to a gig feeling underdressed.
Dinesh also compares the Gibson ES-335 with a Gibson Les Paul to highlight the differences in sound and feel between Gibson’s iconic semi-hollow and solidbody designs - the perfect comparison if you're curious about which humbucker guitar to buy.

Back in 1964 I was just starting to learn guitar and my mom saw a cherry 335 with a bigsby in a store window, picked me up after school to go see it and bought it the next day. At 60yrs old that beauty can handle surf, rock, or jazz, anything you throw at it, it will chew up and spit out right back at you and smile at you when it's done! Fine peace of work!!!!
Wow! What a cool story about your guitar. I bet that thing sings! Thanks for sharing.
@@gibson I don't play it as much as I used to, but it's always patently waiting when ever I'm ready
Have a Les Paul 50s Standard and a Gibson Lucille. Dream Team for the rest of my life.
My uncle left me this when he sadly passed away from cancer so this guitar means alot to me! Most expensive guitar I now own and it sounds incredible
I've got an ES-335 and a few LP's. I've also got an SG. I love them all for various reasons, and regardless of what many folks may say, each sounds different and has its own distinct voice.
Of COURSE each sounds different! I have the same guitars as you and I find each to be unique. Cheers! -Lee
This was so well timed! Been debating an ES-335 the last few days.
Ooooh what color are you going for? -Lee
@@gibson Looking at classic cherry. 😁
Immense!@@rocktorrocks
Just purchased a Gibson satin 335 and it's an absolutely amazing guitar!
You forgot the most important point.
Please re-do the video and add point #8:
There's no way your wife will tell you "but it looks exactly like all your other guitars"
😊
I love my Epiphone Dot for unplugged practice; that's one of the main reasons I bought it 23 years ago, and it still pays off.
Can we get a studio version? Some of us can live without the high gloss finish and binding and enjoy the sound of 490/498T pick-ups. A 335 Studio with a satin Smokehouse Burst finish would be the perfect partner to a Les Paul Modern Studio.
YES PLEASE !!! thats exactly what im saying and with a shape C slim taper neck profile, satin finish neck feel
I just said the same thing. Strip it down, put in some burst buckers for about 2k. 👍
I got an Epiphone Dot on my Birthday a few weeks ago, I have high end Les Paul and Hollowbody and Acoustic, the 335 really does fit in in a unique way. Sort of more Les Paul than a Les Paul in the mid position. Great design.
I bought my 2001 Epiphone Dot Cherry when it was brand new, still have it. I eventually got tired of the pickups, currently working on double P-rails and a bunch of Freeway switches for maximum pickup options. I do love the feel and look, still, but those stock pickups had brass covers, and I really didn't dig that.
I have a sweet '78. Just got my coil split working again
I traded three guitars for a 335 in 2021. I took it to my luthier for slight adjustment to the action and to make sure the intonation was just right. It plays like silk and the tone is incredible. While I generally play jazz and blues with it, it is versatile enough to play any genre. Love it! 😎
Amazing! I hope the guitar serves you well! -Lee
To me, and through my audio system, the ES sounded brighter than the LP. Which I thought would be the other way around. I'm definitely interested in one. They look and sound fantastic. I've been wanting something brighter than my LP but not a fender. I think i found it.
I’ve been loving my ES 335TD for fifty seven years.
My first electric guitar and still my favorite guitar.
Kalamazoo zoo zoo zoo.
I currently have four Gibson guitars and one of them is that exact same ES-335 guitar. I love my ES-335 guitar and it is extremely versatile. The other Gibsons I own are SG Standard, Les Paul Standard 50s, and Les Paul Classic. I love them all.
Rock on!
Yes I desperately need a ES3355 !!! BUT with a C Slim Taper Neck Shape Profile with satin finish!! PLEASE !! we need a entry level Gibson ES335 like the les Paul modern lite and studio version PLEASE !! let Gibson know now !! please and thank you
I have a Gibson ES-345 in 60s Cherry. I love mine and it’s so versatile. I love the feedback at times it’s a great character of the ES series. I dig the feedback it’s like having unwaxed pickups. If I had any complaints on my ES?? There is none.
Thanks for sharing your love for the Gibson ES-345! It's great to hear that you find it versatile and enjoy the feedback it provides. Keep rocking!
What's the difference between this and the "Inspired by Gibson" version. The only thing I see from researching the two are the inlays and different finish options?
I have both the ES 335 and the Standard 60s LP.......to my ears, played clean, they sound very similar. The 335 may be a hair more articulate. But the weight difference is huge......the 335 is so much more comfortable to play for a longer period of time.
Thanks for sharing!
They're really good (I've owned three) but my Eastman T185 shames them...way less expensive too.
What about the 330?
Like the 335, LOVE the Paul
Doyle Bramhall switched from his Strat to the 335 Style a while ago. I think he alternates between the Heritage version, the Gibson version and even sometimes the Eastman version.
I never knew that! -Lee
I think the 335 is the best guitar Gibson ever made, and this is coming from a LP guy. For me it’s the access to higher frets, balance and ergonomics, and most import clarity of the neck position. I find the 335, like the SG, is a lot easier to tame the bottom end of the neck position relative to, say, my favorite guitar, the LP.
The only thing I’ll say though, is if you’re going to make a head to head using a 335 59 reissue, the representative of the LP I’d choose would be an R9. I’m splitting hairs here, because these standards are phenomenal and you picked the 60s that has the BB 61s, which are one of my favorites Gibson pups. Just think a USA standard vs a USA 335, or a Gibson C R9 vs a 335 59 RI would be my natural choices for comparison.
My 335 can do a big fat jazz tone is your amp broke ?
Love the es 335
My dream guitar
It's an incredibly versatile guitar for sure!
I have an ES-339 it is rather easy to handle for a small guy like me.
I love the 335 among other variations of the model however and in my opinion, the Telecaster would be my guitar of choice if I could only have one guitar.
And what amp and pedals r u using?
Hi Dave! Links in the description:) thanks for watching
Need a studio model in production for about 2k 🤷♂️
That would be appreciated by the working class. 🤘
335 seemed brighter to me
I don’t need 7 reasons. Just the fact that it’s an ES 335 should be enough for anyone.
Alvin Lee tried to change the world with his 335
Since he works for Gibson what do you expect.
Alvin Lee
the most important reason for me is that my wife wouldn't ever let me sell it
I have a yamaha. Awesome and much better in quality workmanship & cheaper.
You got the cheaper part right, you probably watched this Gibson video by accident
Shouldn't have played that les paul at the end ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Theres zero reason to spend that much on one of these. Paying for a name.
Epiphone casino over Gibson and Everytime
Heritage 535 are the best 335's ever made!
@@dimitrioskarastamatis4919 show documents saying that.. Epiphone and Gibson are the real deal's heritage is a copy and yes I know there ex Gibson employees
