Cypriot Tahini Pies with Orange Flavour

  • Today we're going to make Cypriot tahini pies. Tahini, sugar and cinnamon is a perfect combination, but the orange zest makes it irresistible! The addition of sesame seeds makes the pies crunchy, but it is optional. This is a hand pie with layers of dough and sweet filling that melts in your mouth and my personal favourite.

    Κυπριακές Ταχινόπιτες με Άρωμα Πορτοκαλιού
    Υλικά (για 16 ατομικές ταχινόπιτες)
    250 γρ. αλεύρι κίτρινο
    250 γρ. αλεύρι για όλες τις χρήσεις
    1 κ.γ. αλάτι
    300 ml χλιαρό νερό
    25g νωπή μαγιά ή 1 φακελάκι ξερή
    300 γρ. ταχίνι
    300 γρ. ζάχαρη κρυσταλλική
    2 κ.γ. κανέλα
    ξύσμα από ένα πορτοκάλι
    50 γρ. σουσάμι (προαιρετικό)

    Aphrodite, you are very talented. I was in Cyprus a few years ago and had a tahinopita from Zorbas bakery. i really enjoyed it. it was huge and delicious. Now i can make my own thanks to you.

    Is it ok if I swap orange zest with orange pulp??? We are making a lot of juice and we remain with lots of pulp resulting from the process. I was wondering if there's a way that we can use it, or should we just throw it away. I wonder if the dough would rise or not by adding orange pulp...🙄

      Hi there! The orange zest just makes the dough more aromatic but doesn' t affect the final product. Adding orange pulp would ruin the recipe. You could divide the pulp in small portions and keep it in the freezer for other uses such as cake recipes.

    Hi what kind of flour is the yellow flour? As i live in cyprus it could be different to yours in the UK.

      Hello my friend! I wish I lived in UK but I am Greek and I live in Greece. The flour the recipe calls for, is the one with the light yellow colour that looks like fine semolina and is suitable for bread and phyllo pastry. If you can't find it though, you can use bread flour instead but not cornmeal.
