I remember reading that the two townspeople who told stories about Moonlight Graham weren't actors. They really did know Doc Graham. Can't get more real than that.
Thanks for a real, heartfelt reaction. Having grown up in a baseball family this is the ultimate childhood fantasy - being able to play catch with your father when you were about same age. No man can get through that ending - "Hey Dad, want to have a catch?" - without that strong, heartfelt emotion. Maybe this is heaven.
Having recently lost my dad, I have to say this movie hits even harder. It always makes me cry like a baby. It’s a beautiful wonderful film. So many great moments, and also it’s also a love letter to those of us who love baseball. Especially if you’ve played the game. A magical film. Thank you. As a child in the 50's/60's, so many hours were spent playing catch with my father. Fortunately, I didn't have a similar relationship with my father as did Costner in the movie, but ''playing catch'' is a perfect bond or bait allowing one to recall those golden memories while enjoying a great film.
I live 45 minutes from the movie sight. I have taken each of my boys there for "a catch". My high school banner hangs behind the book burning scene. I love this movie. The individuals in Minnasota were actual people who knew Dr Grahm. That's why they were so believable.

"Field of Dreams" is genuinely an emotional film. It's beautifully shot, acted and written! It's a place where you can speak to and be with anyone you've ever loved- especially those who have passed away - it will make you cry 😢! I love it and think everyone should watch it! They had a game at that field a few years ago and Kevin Costner was there, it was awesome. The game between the White Sox and Yankees was probably the greatest game Ive seen, amazing!
I watched this year's ago when I was in middle school. It was an emotional movie. It hits harder now. My father passed 2 months before my 1st child, my daughter, was born. When Ray's wife tells him to introduce him to his granddaughter is now the most emotional part of the movie.

I have only discovered first time watching in the last few mnths, and I do seem to single out a few movies. This is one. Since you are real movie people I am a bit suprized you didn't catch my favorite gem of the 'little' speeches. It was Burt Lancaster's speech when he was talking about 'it was the only day'. And Kevin says 'it would kill some men to get that close to their dreams...' I first started watching this video during the recent controversary about Tua of the Dolphins getting his at least 3rd concussion and whether or not he should continue to play. That little speech to me encapsulated it for me. Some get to live their dreams. Babe Ruth, Mickey Mantle, Jose Soto. And some are like Moonlight Graham. Some make a team and get inujured and never get to play. There ae so many memorable moments in this breathtaking movie, and JEJ surely has the best lines of his life, but to me, it will be that one by Burt.
The Moonlight speech is AMAZING. What I love about it is how faithful it is to the book's monologue (I used to know better, but I think it's almost word for word). Lancaster's delivery of it is perfect as well. Thanks for this! - Greg
One time-line snafu for "FoD": Ray, like myself, was born in 1952. I began college in 1970, NOT in the '60s! Ray couldn't have "majored in the sixties." He'd have worked his way to graduation around 1974. It's apparent Ray wasn't a math major!

Phil Alden Robinson who wrote and directed this wonderful film says he was offered the original book to read by his producer and he asked what its about, she said a farmer who hears voices and builds a baseball field, Phil said, not my thing but took the book home and put it on a coffee table. About 10.30 that night he picked the book up and started to read and read it all the way through and thought, I have to make a film of this. The irony is that the movie is I guess about second chances, about believing in that still small voice that tells you to believe in your dream when all others doubt you.....
Another great story about this movie, Rod Dedeaux, who was the Baseball coordinator, was a USC alumni. One of the crew got speaking to him and Dedeaux asked him if his dad played at USC, he said yes but never knew him as he died during WW2. It turned out his dad was his best pal at college and during filming told him stories about him.
The biggest mis conception is that her brother was actually a very good brother and tried to help her probably something everyone of us would do ,yes when the daughter fell was a bad moment but he wasnt totally at fault
Burt Lancaster was my first Classic Hollywood movie crush. I saw The Crimson Pirate on tv when I was about 12 years old back in the late ‘70s, and his sheer charisma, as well as his constantly-shirtless body, did some serious damage to my pubescent hormones.

57:42 The one line guaranteed to make a grown man cry. I'd recommend the Ken Burns multipart documentary called Baseball, if you want to understand the impact and the role baseball had in shaping and influencing American culture and society in the 20th century.
We saw this movie first in San Diego and the scene in the Feed store talking about hearing voices got a huge laugh. A couple weeks later we were visiting family in Iowa and saw it in a small town American Legion Hall that doubled as a theater, sitting on folding chairs. Not a single laugh.
This is in my top five baseball movies along with The Natural, A league Of Their Own, Bull Durham and For The Love Of The Game, the last two also starring Costner. 😊

Something that nobody seems to talk about is we only see Moonlight Graham have one at bat in the movie and he hits a sacrifice fly. A sacrifice fly does not count as an at bat, so according to the strict interpretation of the rules, even though he faced a major league pitcher, he still didn't have an official at bat.

I can make it to "Hey rookie...you were good" without ugly crying. A mighty feat. This along with The Princess Bride and The Shawshank Redemption are the closest to a "perfect" movie as one can possibly get.

As someone from the UK, this isn't a sporting movie to me. What I know about Baseball I could write on the back of a postage stamp with a paintbrush. Sure it is a sporting themed movie but that is just the scene... nothing more. To me it's a movie about a man's relationship with his Dad. I cry many times during this film, then again I cry a lot now at many movies. Maybe it's because I'm coming to the end of my life, I think deeply about what were just moments in my life. It reminds me of the song 'In the living years' by Mike and the Mechanics. Was just a song to me 30 years ago, now it is one of major regrets! Great reaction BTW 🙂
AH! Sports Movies! Disney's "Miracle" based on the " Miracle on Ice" Olympic Hockey Team (It will be 45 years in February 2025) another one RUDY, and the Original "Brian's Song"was the number one made for TV movie of all time. demand for it was so big they put it in the movie theaters.

I saw this as a kid, 13-14 yrs old. It was good, not my fave. Watching this as a 46 year old man whose father was recently diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, it definitely hits different. Watching Ray work through the reason this was happening made me tear up, by the catch with dad I was bawling. Great reaction guys!

That was the first play I ever did in high school. I remember that, by chance, the old movie theater in town was playing it. I got to see it for the first time in a gorgeous old theater with an organ and a big screen! Jimmy Stewart is the best! - Des

for some reason you spam every FoD reaction with the same misinformation. the newspaper editor was portrayed by veteran actress Anne Seymour (1909-1988) who appeared in 30+ films and many TV shows (Gunsmoke, Bonanza, My Three Sons, Bewitched). she died 5 months before FoD was released & her film character reads the actual obituary for Doc Graham written by the actual editor. the three men in the bar are one actor & two local guys who recite facts about Doc Graham but did not know him personally. this film is plenty magical on its own, why the need to share falsehoods about it?
I heard that James Stewart was the first choice for Doc Graham - although I can't imagine anyone but Burt Lancaster in the role. I do wonder if they had cast Stewart, of they would've still used the Harvey clip. 🤔
I watch any Field Of Dreams "First Time Watching", even re-upload, because this is a great movie. Being it is a re-upload I will put a re-post I put on a lot of these post about this movie. Do you think Terrance Mann was already a ghost. The first hint was when Ray dropped Terrance off and then made the U-Turn and there was Terrance standing in front of Ray. The second hint is he did not pack any clothes or belongings to take with him. The third was when Ray told Terrance he was missing and handed the paper to Terrance. Ray leaves and Terrance picks up the receiver and asks himself what will he tell his son. The fourth is Ray and Terrance never talks about what Terrance said to his son. I acutally believe Terrance was a ghost the whole time since Ray met him.
Terrance Mann walks off into the cornfield like all the other ghost... Was Terrance a ghost to begin with..? The paper read that his father called the police to report him missing.. Was he already dead..? As a cop, I responded to many sudden death calls because of family members unable to reach them... Just a thought..

The hate for Mark is ridiculous you very well know that if you were in the same situation you would think your sister and brother-in-law had gone completely nuts also him buying the note from the bank he was able to keep his sister from going homeless because they would have already foreclosed on that property he was able to extend that out by buying it and was going to let them stay on the property rent-free that doesn't sound like a bad brother to me but for some reason only because he can't see a bunch of dead people playing baseball he's a horrible person
He's not acting out of spite or malice, for sure. He's doing the best he can given the circumstances to give his sister a branch to hold onto... but it's HOW he goes about it throughout the film that causes audiences to react that way. And I believe this is intentional by the filmmakers. There really isn't an antagonist in the film, but for the threat of losing the farm, and Mark is the face of that threat. Doesn't make him a bad guy in the big picture, but through the lens of the film, he arguably has the biggest arc going from not only disbelieving, but a threat - to a true believer and an ally. It's really well done and the hate he gets shouldn't be seen as the audience missing the point (imo), but the audience reacting how the writer/director hoped they would. But that's me. The only thing about this movie that bothers me is that, if you're a row crop farmer in Iowa, there's no way the four acres of corn from production that a baseball diamond would take to build is going to be the difference in holding or losing the farm. If it is, you ain't going to make it for other reasons. And,IMO Sandlot is the "best" baseball movie, because it's not about pro baseball, it's about baseball.

Look at Marks perspective though. His sister ran off from Iowa to California, and came back with this hippie activist dude, took over the family farm and then fiscally ran it into bankruptcy for a baseball field where they say and watched imaginary players all day. He was just trying to save the family land.
That's 100% right - from his POV he's doing the best he can to give his sister a way out of a mess. It's just that the movie needs him to be the antagonist (not even a villain) to give us some stakes - so he always catches (unfair) heat from viewers (myself included) :) - Greg
I never liked baseball, even as my father tried to bond with me by taking me to baseball games. The game...ugh. Too inefficient in its use of space, time and manpower. But basketball now- that's a tight game; every player, every second, every inch of the court matters. I'm a numbers guy. That satisfies me.

Constructive criticism: get rid of the overlay logo it’s not necessary, but it is irritating. I recommend you review some of the other reaction to this movie. There are tons of them. Lose it in your channel grow much faster. Thanks
Unfortunately, our first cut without it was taken down. This was the way to get it back up. The people interviewed in Chisholm Minnesota were actual citizens and knew Doc Graham. They were sharing actual Memories about him.
37:59 this interaction is my favourite of the movie! The article is real… the lady newspaper editor is based on a real person… who wrote about the real doc graham. Shoot… I believe the older gentleman telling the blue hats story was a legit friend of the actual Archie Graham.

We saw this movie first in San Diego and the scene in the Feed store talking about hearing voices got a huge laugh. A couple weeks later we were visiting family in Iowa and saw it in a small town American Legion Hall that doubled as a theater, sitting on folding chairs. Not a single laugh.

Something that nobody seems to talk about is we only see Moonlight Graham have one at bat in the movie and he hits a sacrifice fly. A sacrifice fly does not count as an at bat, so according to the strict interpretation of the rules, even though he faced a major league pitcher, he still didn't have an official at bat.

As someone from the UK, this isn't a sporting movie to me. What I know about Baseball I could write on the back of a postage stamp with a paintbrush. Sure it is a sporting themed movie but that is just the scene... nothing more. To me it's a movie about a man's relationship with his Dad. I cry many times during this film, then again I cry a lot now at many movies. Maybe it's because I'm coming to the end of my life, I think deeply about what were just moments in my life. It reminds me of the song 'In the living years' by Mike and the Mechanics. Was just a song to me 30 years ago, now it is one of major regrets!

An underrated Kevin Costner movie is "No Way Out" with Gene Hackman, well worth a watch.
AH! Sports Movies! Disney's "Miracle" based on the " Miracle on Ice" Olympic Hockey Team (It will be 45 years in February 2025) another one RUDY, and the Original "Brian's Song"was the number one made for TV movie of all time. demand for it was so big they put it in the movie theaters.
LOVE those movies. I will have to check with Des, but I've seen those. I know she's seen Rudy, pretty sure she saw Miracle, but if not I'd love to do that one for the channel. Gets me every time. - Greg

I saw this as a kid, 13-14 yrs old. It was good, not my fave. Watching this as a 46 year old man whose father was recently diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, it definitely hits different. Watching Ray work through the reason this was happening made me tear up, by the catch with dad I was bawling. Great reaction guys!

for some reason you spam every FoD reaction with the same misinformation. the newspaper editor was portrayed by veteran actress Anne Seymour (1909-1988) who appeared in 30+ films and many TV shows (Gunsmoke, Bonanza, My Three Sons, Bewitched). she died 5 months before FoD was released & her film character reads the actual obituary for Doc Graham written by the actual editor. the three men in the bar are one actor & two local guys who recite facts about Doc Graham but did not know him personally. this film is plenty magical on its own, why the need to share falsehoods about it?
I heard that James Stewart was the first choice for Doc Graham - although I can't imagine anyone but Burt Lancaster in the role. I do wonder if they had cast Stewart, of they would've still used the Harvey clip. 🤔

I watch any Field Of Dreams "First Time Watching", even re-upload, because this is a great movie. Being it is a re-upload I will put a re-post I put on a lot of these post about this movie. Do you think Terrance Mann was already a ghost. The first hint was when Ray dropped Terrance off and then made the U-Turn and there was Terrance standing in front of Ray. The second hint is he did not pack any clothes or belongings to take with him. The third was when Ray told Terrance he was missing and handed the paper to Terrance. Ray leaves and Terrance picks up the receiver and asks himself what will he tell his son. The fourth is Ray and Terrance never talks about what Terrance said to his son. I acutally believe Terrance was a ghost the whole time since Ray met him.

Terrance Mann walks off into the cornfield like all the other ghost... Was Terrance a ghost to begin with..? The paper read that his father called the police to report him missing.. Was he already dead..? As a cop, I responded to many sudden death calls because of family members unable to reach them... Just a thought..

The hate for Mark is ridiculous you very well know that if you were in the same situation you would think your sister and brother-in-law had gone completely nuts also him buying the note from the bank he was able to keep his sister from going homeless because they would have already foreclosed on that property he was able to extend that out by buying it and was going to let them stay on the property rent-free that doesn't sound like a bad brother to me but for some reason only because he can't see a bunch of dead people playing baseball he's a horrible person
He's not acting out of spite or malice, for sure. He's doing the best he can given the circumstances to give his sister a branch to hold onto... but it's HOW he goes about it throughout the film that causes audiences to react that way. And I believe this is intentional by the filmmakers. There really isn't an antagonist in the film, but for the threat of losing the farm, and Mark is the face of that threat. Doesn't make him a bad guy in the big picture, but through the lens of the film, he arguably has the biggest arc going from not only disbelieving, but a threat - to a true believer and an ally. It's really well done and the hate he gets shouldn't be seen as the audience missing the point (imo), but the audience reacting how the writer/director hoped they would. But that's me. The only thing about this movie that bothers me is that, if you're a row crop farmer in Iowa, there's no way the four acres of corn from production that a baseball diamond would take to build is going to be the difference in holding or losing the farm. If it is, you ain't going to make it for other reasons. And,IMO Sandlot is the "best" baseball movie, because it's not about pro baseball, it's about baseball.

Look at Marks perspective though. His sister ran off from Iowa to California, and came back with this hippie activist dude, took over the family farm and then fiscally ran it into bankruptcy for a baseball field where they say and watched imaginary players all day. He was just trying to save the family land.

That's 100% right - from his POV he's doing the best he can to give his sister a way out of a mess. It's just that the movie needs him to be the antagonist (not even a villain) to give us some stakes - so he always catches (unfair) heat from viewers (myself included) :) - Greg
I never liked baseball, even as my father tried to bond with me by taking me to baseball games. The game...ugh. Too inefficient in its use of space, time and manpower. But basketball now- that's a tight game; every player, every second, every inch of the court matters. I'm a numbers guy. That satisfies me.

Abso-dang-lutely. For me, the first big mistake was when they instituted the DH in 1973. Hated it then, hate it now.
What a horrible thing to know before watching the movie. It takes away the very heart of the movie.

Constructive criticism: get rid of the overlay logo it’s not necessary, but it is irritating. I recommend you review some of the other reaction to this movie. There are tons of them. Lose it in your channel grow much faster. Thanks
Unfortunately, our first cut without it was taken down. This was the way to get it back up. Our editor tends to keep longer versions of the reactions up (it's the writer in him) whereas a lot of other reaction channels will be at half the time our reactions are. Even with it, we've seen growth with the channel. We'll avoid when we can, but so far, it's allowed us to keep content up. - Des
